If you want to remain you will need to have a chat. Personally, I have always told teachers that I decide what is best for my dc. Not in a confrontational way but quite firm. We had a difficult time when one teacher started messing us around and in the end we decided to leave. Dds were upset at the time but are now far happier. Good luck but do what is best for your child. You know you have her best interests at heart.

I did A level dance with no GCSE. It has anatomy and physiology in it and has been useful when I changed to nursing. I have been able to use this knowledge for teaching biosciences. It is a shame some regard it as 'Mickey Mouse'. When I studied it, it contained dance history, choreography, A &P, ballet, contemporary and Laban notation. It requires essay writing too-it is not just practical. You can always clarify this on UCAS forms. I am an admissions tutor and would happily accept it. It is useful if you want to study dance at degree and higher degree levels.

Demi pointes/Pointe shoe fitting (North East)
Mummy twinkle toes replied to HollyLou's topic in Doing Dance
When dd1 first needed pointe shoes she was a size 13. We managed to get Grishkos in a 1 and they fitted. ( they also do Demi's). It is a struggle in Uk as most shops stock larger sizes. Custom made could be an option but expensive. Sansha make small sizes too. Is it for an exam? When Dd1 did grade 3 rad she had to have permission to wear low heel character shoe as at time she was size 10 shoe and just could not get Cuban heels in that size. The Rad were very understanding. eBay do have small sizes but there is an issue with not being able to fit.- 13 replies

Watch Ghost Dancers by Christopher Bruce. Some very good music and could help to inspire. I know it is popular as it has been a set study for A level and GCSE for over 20 years. There are also numerous YouTube videos uploaded by people that may help. You could also look for videos uploaded by both schools to see the kind of style they like. Have a listen to the Walbrook Road song as it is very good for Contemporary. Happy choreographing ????????

Theme from Morse is a lovely piece of music. Friend used it for her A level solo. It was very successful. My dd did a solo to leaving Walbrook road from the film Rainman. This is good for lyrical/contemporary. Depends with genre you want and your strongest attributes. How long does it need to be?

Years ago....they used to have a classical course. You had to be advanced (old grade) to audition and elementary level for Mt. Perhaps with new teacher they may have these types of aspirations again.

ISTD Cecchetti and standards/grades confusion
Mummy twinkle toes replied to taxi4ballet's topic in Doing Dance
Dd intermediate Rad, passed elementary legat and studies grade 5/6 and if cecchetti. She is in year 7. She is also an associate. Cecchetti does have more arms/positions of body than RAD. Grade 2 cecchetti would seem a little low for an 11 year old but if she is new to it perhaps the teacher needs her to learn the basics before progressing her. -
Dd decided to audition in the end. Audition in January. Good luck to those waiting for news

Have we had an alien invasion when I wasn't looking?
Mummy twinkle toes replied to r3dh3d's topic in Doing Dance

RBS MA class times in Birmingham

Anyone? -
Hi all, Just wondered if anyone knew what time Yr 8 mids rbs in Birmingham is?

Returning to the original post I would check the school's prospectus. What does it state about choosing options? It would be useful to quote their own literature against them. If geography is an option they cannot make it compulsory. These days schools should be flexible about a pupil's education. Some children will access college courses as an option. At dcs school they can choose Pe or do a Btec first in Fe, as an example. Good luck with it. If the school is LEA maintained you can speak to education dept at council. If it is a church school then discuss with the school gouvenors. They cannot make you move schools although you may wish to.

Dd2 has similar feet to the op's dd. She wears satin full sole by Roch Valley. They support her foot well and she does not curl her toes. She wears Capezio in leather.

Are many people applying for yr8? Dd is Elmhurst associate but we also know they do not really assess out until yr9. I believe Wl has same policy? Is it then worthwhile or should we wait for yr9? Not sure if there would be any capacity and funding. Dd is undecided but I said it is good experience and gets her seen again. Opinions please.

Dancique in Birmingham have a good range.

Dd2 is a d fitting in Clarks. Capezio daisy leathers in narrow fitting have suited her. She tried on lots of different styles and these were the best for her.

I don't think the school's mind. Rbs jas run in several locations whereas Tring and Hammond only offer their associates in their own locations. My dd is an Elmhurst associate and several of the younger ones do the Elmhurst course and then change into Ja leotard for Rbs every Saturday. The staff at Elmhurst don't seem to bat an eyelid. Many jas will wear the leotard but it is what your dd feels comfortable in. Good luck

Hi ballet sister. Eyb have videos on YouTube which will show the costumes. Swan Lake is on there and they tend to use the same costumes for a particular ballet. Dd1 just did Sleeping Beauty and all the costumes were lovely. Her friend was cast as a Russian dancer and they wore character shoes for this.

Ballett Zürich looking for swans
Mummy twinkle toes replied to SwissBalletFan's topic in Doing Dance
I know ADs like uniformity but some variation in heights could be tolerated. 3cm is a very narrow range!!After all if you lined up actual swans there would be height differences. -
My dd does Legat and Rad. She prefers Legat but has no issues switching between the two.

Small girl pants that don't show under leotards?
Mummy twinkle toes replied to Confuddled's topic in Doing Dance
Amazon sold nude bra and knickers. They also sold nude bodysuits to wear under leotards. -
Just got back from Tring ss. Very enjoyable watching classes. Dd1 really took to commercial and really tried with the hip hop. I agree there was less ballet than I thought but it depended what group you were allocated into. Well worth the money.
