  1. We applied for Hammond last week and have audition so apply soon. Good luck????
  2. Girls in yr 4 and 5 are 8.45 on Saturday in Birmingham. Yr 6 is slightly later. Yr4-6 boys have their own class.
  3. Oh ok that is a different letter. We had similar last year. Perhaps you could have word with the teacher, if possible. We just have to keep trying as long as dc want to. Hugs to you and son.
  4. Was it definitely 2 letters? Our letter said on this occasion we cannot invite to finals but hope xxx continues as Eyd. Then the last part said we could contact, if we wished. It is hard sometimes to understand. It maybe they just did not score as highly as some others. Occasionally it can be marginal eg 1 or 2 points of.
  5. Congrats balletmummy55. What yr associate are you balletbrokemybank? It could be different letters for current yr6.
  6. We also had a no for year 8 finals but said it hoped dd would continue as ext associate. Letter did say we could contact for further support too. Have not told dd yet. Her friend got a yes so it will be hard but onwards and upwards. Good luck to those still waiting
  7. Hi Liv56, you would be auditioning for level 2 then which is based around intermediate level. For s17 entry, I believe auditions will be in June
  8. Actually, it is the requirement of the teacher to have Dbs and safeguard. We often have 14-16 year olds visiting university and it is mine and my colleagues duty to keep them safe whilst there. The other students are all adults. Therefore, you should be fine as you are not responsible for them and unlikely to be left alone with them. My dd used to have an adult attend her class and there was never an issue. I would discuss with the teacher and try the class.
  9. No, auditions for 2016 were in June so presumably it will be the same for 2017. What year group are you?
  10. To teach in gym/leisure centre you can be employed. Average rates £15-20 an hour. You can also do self employed and you need to register as such. The tax office usually run info classes on setting up, ni contributions, filing expenses and completing tax returns. Yes, Zumba is 1 day course, as is step and some circuit qualifications. It depends which board you do it with but Cyq and ocr usually expect a level 2 qualification such as etm, gym instructor. Personal trainer, fitness post pregnancy, fitness for cardiac rehab are all level 3.
  11. Hi, yes they are still on. The auditions, last year, were advertised late so keep watching the website. They have not told us what will happen yet to the current ones eg; assessment or re audition.
  12. Following on from Lin M, years ago I use to attend Nicky Bentley's jazz classes at Pineapple. They were superb and you can still buy the Dvd. They were very popular and she was the first to say she was self taught. I agree if you want a highly technical ballet class then you look for a very good teacher. The op said she just wanted to teach a 'free' ballet class and I would suggest it can be done.
  13. If an instructor is teaching Zumba they will have passed exercise to music and then added on Zumba training. The etm course has a and p in it, a written and practical assessment. Of course, someone could just set themselves up. The law can be lax. (Not going off topic but just adding in that many Zumba teachers are qualified and regulated). Several dance teachers add this on as it attracts a new customer base.
  14. Are you aiming for adults or children? If it was adults then you could offer balletcise. I agree most parents prefer syllabus. BBO is becoming very popular. There is also Istd Cecchetti, Natd, Btda, legat, vaganova, Uka etc. You could see what the requirements are for each.
  15. Just to add, you would need experience yourself too. You could ask a local ballet school, if you could assist them.
  16. You can do an exercise to music qualification which covers you for aerobics and dance in general. It is a level 2 course. You can get indemnity insurance through the guild of professional teachers of dance. You can even go on and do level 3 so you can teach in hospitals/nursing homes, exercise after pregnancy etc. These courses are offered in fe colleges. You would need to make it clear to customers it is non-syllabus class. If you wanted to enter children/adults for exams eventually then you would have to pursue a ballet teaching qualification.
  17. Personally, I would explain to the original school that she was taking Rad ballet and participated in tap whilst there. I would then explain she has opportunity to do her tap exam. They may ask you to choose but it seems silly to wait for non-existent date with them. You could then say she will continue with them for istd ballet but do tap at new school, if it is an issue.
  18. Misty Copeland started late, 13 or 14. You need a lot of natural ability starting later. I agree, you should ask your teacher for an assessment or try and attend a summer school. Good luck.
  19. Dd1 auditioned today. She was in mixed yr7-8 class of girls. 21 in group. Approx 12 boys, I think in group after. Parents get tour of school, children do not. Parents get to watch last 10 minutes. A good experience ????
  20. I would assume so. They have not told us what will happen at the end of the year. The audition announcement was later than the ja one, last year.
  21. If you want to remain you will need to have a chat. Personally, I have always told teachers that I decide what is best for my dc. Not in a confrontational way but quite firm. We had a difficult time when one teacher started messing us around and in the end we decided to leave. Dds were upset at the time but are now far happier. Good luck but do what is best for your child. You know you have her best interests at heart.
  22. I did A level dance with no GCSE. It has anatomy and physiology in it and has been useful when I changed to nursing. I have been able to use this knowledge for teaching biosciences. It is a shame some regard it as 'Mickey Mouse'. When I studied it, it contained dance history, choreography, A &P, ballet, contemporary and Laban notation. It requires essay writing too-it is not just practical. You can always clarify this on UCAS forms. I am an admissions tutor and would happily accept it. It is useful if you want to study dance at degree and higher degree levels.
  23. When dd1 first needed pointe shoes she was a size 13. We managed to get Grishkos in a 1 and they fitted. ( they also do Demi's). It is a struggle in Uk as most shops stock larger sizes. Custom made could be an option but expensive. Sansha make small sizes too. Is it for an exam? When Dd1 did grade 3 rad she had to have permission to wear low heel character shoe as at time she was size 10 shoe and just could not get Cuban heels in that size. The Rad were very understanding. eBay do have small sizes but there is an issue with not being able to fit.
  24. Watch Ghost Dancers by Christopher Bruce. Some very good music and could help to inspire. I know it is popular as it has been a set study for A level and GCSE for over 20 years. There are also numerous YouTube videos uploaded by people that may help. You could also look for videos uploaded by both schools to see the kind of style they like. Have a listen to the Walbrook Road song as it is very good for Contemporary. Happy choreographing ????????
