  1. Just been to Harrods and lots of their own brands are half price. They do fairy style ballet lunchbags for younger ones and handbags-rucksacks for older ones. Not completely ballet inspired but useful gift ideas. They also have cute teddies in small shopper bags for 8.50 at the moment-pink, navy and their Westie one.
  2. I would ask the RAD school whether they do free work as well as syllabus especially if you are just doing syllabus in your ITDA classes. Learning free work will help you pick up combos which you will get for upper school auditions. Both dds do Russian and RAD as well as associates. It has provided them with a good mix and helped develop a good brain for new steps. Just doing pure syllabus does not develop these skills. Istd exams are a mix of free and syllabus. RAD has some in the vocational set by the examiner but it is easier to do if you are used to learning unset combos. Both schools know about and respect each other and because they are teaching different syllabi do not mind.
  3. Good luck Pictures to you and dd. The Btec sounds like a good option and then she can apply when she is 18. It will also give her a chance to visit schools and see what they can offer and whether they will suit. Is it MT she is after?
  4. Does she really want to pursue performing arts or might it be she would like to try something else? It can be difficult when they are set on a career and then change their minds. DS now yr 10 and does not know at all. It varies from becoming an actor to working in genetics.Dd1 very focused about ballet (yr8) but the other day was talking about becoming a lawyer.
  5. Has she auditioned previously? Miss Whiteman suggests leaving it as long as possible between auditions so if they auditioned in Jan last time than January again.
  6. Bloch and Mirella have lovely leotards. Dd1 has capped sleeves ones that work really well.
  7. It is a little chaotic there at the moment whilst they are assessing all of them at the moment. The extended are still waiting to find out levels and yes still some auditions going on. Good luck to your dc
  8. 2 dds with only 2 years between them. Dd2 does get jealous as Dd1 has more dance classes as she is older & higher grade. However Dd2 has good turns and elevation so i and their teachers praise their individual strenghts. It has helped that dd2 sings and can get focus for that. Ds used to dance too but has given up. Siblings will argue and mine will fight like cat and dog but when one achieves something the others will congratulate and hug them.
  9. If you earn over the £50,000 you can still claim but then pay a % back at the end of the tax year. There is a calculator on gov.uk to help you work out whether it is worth claiming.
  10. At the Central q and a they did say the move to South Bank will allow them to take more students but they do not envisage having accomodation.
  11. Many vocational schools will set initial auditions around intermediate to advanced 1 level. This is in terms of steps and terminology not that they have to have them as some candidates will not have done any exams. Some schools do not do them. You could ask her teacher what she thinks. How did your dd cope in summer school? If she managed to keep up with her peers then that is a better indicator than grade.
  12. Excellent time at Bristol Russian. This is non residential. Concentrates on ballet. Dd learnt pointe variation Swan Lake, character dances from Spain and Hungary and recieved useful tips and feedback. I really recommend.
  13. You would also have to audition again at the end of the year. I understand the yearning to go but you may be better waiting until 6th form auditions.
  14. Dd1 and 2 did Central intensive days. Dd1 given some good tips about auditioning and what she needs in terms of academic grades. Both enjoyed. Off to Bristol Russian this week😍
  15. Yes, I was just providing the info to the US site as people on there may be able to give you advice too. You may even be able to link with students on the two courses you mentioned. I often read the US site as it is interesting to compare the differences in training between the UK and US.
  16. You might want to look on the US dance forum: dancers invisionezone.com I would contact the institution and ask them the difference and the entry requirements. University dance degrees in the UK vary. Some offer ballet whilst others concentrate on contemporary. In the UK most tend to be BA degrees- bachelor of arts. The Fine Arts one would suggest you may study other aligned disciplines with dance as the major but the institute should confirm. Check the academics too- is there a dissertation involved? Do I get assessed performing? Some UK courses have pure dissertations of 10000 words at degree level but other dance courses split this into a dance choreographed by you and a smaller essay in which you analyse the dance. Good luck.
  17. Dd1 never a ja but is an Elmhurst mid. Offered full time at Hammond. Dd's friend was on swl for ja and now is Elmhurst full time. There is hope.
  18. Thanks Pixiewoo. They do offer a dance scholarship. Dance seems part of their enrichment activities. Academics also look impressive. ?
  19. I have just looked at this school's website. I see they offer dance scholarships. Does anyone know what their dance is like? Looks a beautiful but expensive school.
  20. Dd1 also short but did play Aurora's friend. Not sure how old your dd is but the friends are usually on pointe. Dd was 11 and most of her friends were cast with her. At the time they were all around inter foundation grade. There were about 7 of them that did the friends. There were quite a few more monsters- some young and some older girls that were not on pointe. The older girls also did a nice russian dance.
  21. Good luck for Manchester. All fingers and toes crossed
  22. Yes fulltime for Dd1. It was dd2 who tried for JAs.
  23. Hope you and ds ok. Dd2 also got a no and dd1 now has 2 school places with 50% funding which is good but still means she can't go. Not a happy household.? Did not realise Elmhurst were holding more auditions.
  24. It may be the Rad school do not realise that the rad will accept istd intermediate as a precursor to Advanced 1. I have heard of other people being made to do Rad intermediate despite already having intermediate with a recognised teaching body. It seems to be a common misunderstanding.
