  1. Performers used to require this and were known for it. I am not sure if they still do but would imagine so. I have heard Chantry do. You can usually tell from the auditions as if they ask for full stage make-up then classes may be the same. LSC used to be optional for jazz/mt classes.
  2. My 2 dds are just finishing the week at Rugby school with Kings International Ballet Academy. They have loved it and have been worked hard. They have had jazz and contemporary workshops alongside ballet. All of the faculty are professional/ ex professional dancers. I was surprised though at seeing how many older ones of 16 plus there were. Usually there tends to be more youngsters. One for people to consider.
  3. A size 2 would be about right for a 9 year old. Bloch leotards usually do by age so 8-10.
  4. This article may have been posted before but is interesting reading. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2012/mar/25/will-they-make-royal-ballet
  5. Yes, he was great. I had Michael Branwell too. I also remember Kizzy as a child and she was fabulous. Small world.
  6. For Elmhurst audition I would suggest her JA uniform. AD does like JAs and many will be wearing it.
  7. Kizzy was trained by Leo Kersley from a young age. He had been directly trained by Enrico Cecchetti.
  8. Re: pointe work. No one wants to see the return of 5 years old on pointe but there is research that now shows it does not have a great effect on growth plates. Age is not a great predictor as one 12 year old is vastly different from another. I have pasted a link below. I would rather base my opinions on research than traditional opinions about when someone should start. No one should be insulting anyone else let alone a child. The magazine article alludes to some of the research being conducted. http://dancemagazine.com.au/2018/01/making-the-choice-to-the-pointe-the-right-age-to-go-en-pointe/
  9. I would think it is financial. They are aiming for talent but also people that have some finances behind them.
  10. Good luck. When Dd1 did it they did a ballet class and some improvisation. They do like creative dancers.
  11. Are you waiting to find out if you have a place? You can contact Amy directly. They are very friendly.
  12. Another vote for Grishko 2007. Dd1 has narrow feet with barely any heel but she has never had an issue. Personally recommend fitting from Lucy in Dancique, Birmingham.
  13. Kings International are organising one at Rugby school. It is the 4-10th of August so not sure if it finishes too late.
  14. I have signed and verified. Tragic story. My condolences to you and your family xx
  15. JA odds can be long but you need to also consider she may get in. Not to sound too negative but you also need to consider the costs and commitment involved. Ballet can quickly go from a cheap amount each week to very expensive. It can be amazing but I am constantly skint, especially now I have 2 who want to do summer schools and associates😿 Our whole week revolves around it.
  16. Kings International ballet may still have space in Leicestershire. There is also Graham Fletcher there. Cecchetti is a very good scheme and they have a northern division.
  17. Yes. It is a hard decision to leave an esteemed programme but I believe they will benefit more from Kiba as it is 6 hours and includes contemporary and jazz. I am glad to hear your lovely Dd is on the mend xx
  18. I have just found out both Dds got a place. My youngest will be really happy as it is her first ballet associate course. Congrats again to your Dd.
  19. Congrats to your Dd. I think she will have a really good time and training. They do want to keep numbers small so they can give each dancer attention.
  20. Yes she really enjoyed it. I think initially they said no more than 16.💃
  21. There were around 12 in dd2s class and then there were more later on. They did say they have auditioned previously.
