  1. Would she have been boarding in YDA (home stay) or would she have travelled back and forth? YDA could have been a good option if you live near enough. It sounds like your Dd will be getting good training anyway. Plenty go at 16 and there are more options.
  2. There is a Costa, another trendy cafe restaurant- sorry cannot remember the name and a Prezzo. All have free WiFi and are in walking distance
  3. Kings International Ballet Academy are launching this year. They train in Russian but also will have RAD classes. They will be based in Leicestershire. There is also London Russian Ballet school which offers a vocational route. The issue with both could be funding but it would be closer than Perm. I believe both may have a couple of scholarships.
  4. The pret cafe is not that big. It is a short walk to Covent Garden-10-15 minutes. There is also a Weatherspoon pub about 5 mins walk from Central- head towards Farringdon.
  5. Here are 2 film clips which are great. The first one blends modern and hip hop: The second one is Center Stage Both of these films show how versatile ballet can be.
  6. Many good hip hop and street dancers will have also studied ballet. Try a couple of classes and see how you feel. Don’t worry about being mocked. It is your life and your passion. True friends would support this.
  7. This has also happened to us. Dd1 knows she has passed but RAD have lost the results.
  8. I suspect it may be very small numbers for yr7. I am hoping but would imagine it is a longshot.
  9. Do not want to take thread off track so will not say anymore about nursing/hps.💃
  10. Our good students do. Sadly some choose nursing thinking it is an easy option and do not realise the work involved. Some think it will all be practical and do not appreciate they need to know the theory behind the practice. (Non committed students usually fail.) Dance courses at degree/diploma level should be similar. I still use lots of the anatomy and physiology I learnt on my dance course when teaching health professionals. Knowing how the body/muscles/tendons and ligaments work can make you a more knowledgeable dancer and teach you how to avoid/manage injury (or health professional).
  11. Be interesting to know which was which. Some of our nursing students would unfortunately be the latter😂
  12. My dds had no issues learning Cecchetti and RAD. Cecchetti has more arm positions, arabesques and numbering of corners are different but my daughters and their friends picked it up. Each month they will have a different teacher. It is a good scheme.
  13. Nursing students have to have achieved 4600 hours in total to register-2300 theory and 2300 practical. Usually acquired over 3 years. However, it does not really compare to dance training. Vocational dance courses need to educate dancers to be ready to work as dancers so the hours to achieve this may differ. The main point being excessive training could lead to burnout and injury as dancers try to achieve their goal.
  14. Unfortunately most schools and teachers have favourites so it is not unique.
  15. London is very good but there have been organisational issues with the one in Devon which started last year.
  16. Who can afford to pay for 70 hours a week? It can be a struggle paying for 10-12 a week🤔
  17. We are trying to but at the moment I am invigilating exams. Both dds have previously attended and really enjoyed.
  18. Miss Whiteman did visit several classes over last term and made notes. I would imagine she then discussed with teachers as well as looking at attendance, punctuality etc.
  19. Just plain black socks in our house now as my girls kept taking my son’s socks as they could not find pairs. It stops squabbles over that at least. Mine now argue over bobbles and bun nets instead why Ds rolls his eyes😸
  20. Hi Missy, Dd1 is an extended associate with them. Good luck to your Dd.
