  1. Lady is now in meetings so I will not know anything else until Tuesday.
  2. Thanks Sarah. I will try and call then. I haven't heard of any yet either. ?
  3. I agree she needs to be used to wearing Demi's prior to exam. Balancing in them can be harder. Dd2 loves them but dd1 prefers old pointe shoes. If she has the option then she should wear what she wants.
  4. That is what I did for dd2. This is a recent change. I also sent photo of dd doing Demi plie in first.
  5. I drive dd1 every Saturday as train very expensive. It is 2.5 hour drive for us. I just listen to music and no problem. My friend dd is current yr6 and I believe they start around 9/9.30. Harder for her because they have to get up at 5.30?
  6. I did not say all of them but some do. Elmhurst for years 7&8, Hammond and Tring. The op dd is only 8 so I was referring to lower schools.
  7. Angel, i did not state Ballet Black is the only company for ethnic dancers, if you read my post correctly.
  8. Tap can be useful for timing/musicality. Vocational schools do include tap so maybe she means this. It is not a prerequisite though.
  9. In the Uk we have a company called Ballet Black which is for ethnic dancers. For fiction I second Centre Stage and do not forget Coco in Fame. She was a dancer. There is a scene where she refers to herself as Black Cherryvs Vanilla. (Her and a 'white' dancer both admire Leroy).
  10. At the moment there is no jazz for extended associates at Elmhurst yr7+. They do ballet and conditioning. 12.45 start so would be cutting it fine.
  11. Where are you based? There are 3 locations; London, Manchester and Newport, Wales. Each location is organised slightly differently. Dds are associates in Wales. Classes are fairly large. No pointe in senior. Different teacher every time. Usually ballet for 1hour plus followed by other genre. This year they have had rock and roll, contemporary to musical theatre. Teachers have always been good. If you are based in London there is Cecchetti scholars too.
  12. Sylvie Guillem was a game changer. Very, very flexible and technically proficient. Once audiences see someone like her, everyone else has to try and emulate. Just like in gymnastics, things evolve. Not sure whether Nadia Kominech(not sure spelt right?, 1970s) would achieve perfect 10s now
  13. Congrats to all those with a yes. Dd friend also got mds for yr8.
  14. I would either adapt a dance she already knows or do the graded solo. It only needs to be a minute so do not spend lots of money. Perhaps speak to her teacher and see what she suggests.
  15. The Natalie Kremen sounds great but is it non residential?
  16. Hi Babyballerina, I would definitely move her as it sounds as though her school peers are already jealous. Perhaps teacher is trying to avoid complaints from her 'friends' and their parents, if they perceive your dd is getting special treatment. At least if you join a different school this would be avoided. Your dd needs to progress and enjoy herself without being called names. We too stayed at a school for too long. It come to the crunch when dd1 collapsed in heap of tears due to the nastiness she had experienced. She didn't even want to leave then but best decision we made. Perhaps discuss with ja teacher too, if possible. Good luck, it is a hard decision but from what you have said it seems right to move.
  17. What does your dd want to do? Dd2 knows grade 2 off by heart but old school never entered her as started concentrating on show work. Have moved schools and she is in grade 4 instead. She is 10. Move if you feel it is right. Old school would hold back to try and ensure high distinctions.
  18. Thanks Moomin. They do say they receive 100 of applications so must be many that meet the criteria.
  19. Dd2 is applying. She is 10 and 4ft 2.5 so just under. She is not particularly small amongst her friends. We are waiting to see if she gets called for audition. Dd 1 has always been small but is too tall for this so jealous of dd2????????
  20. We also buy the Sainsbury's tights. The white ones look fine on too. We buy Bloch convertible for associates. Next also do ballet tights. They are thicker so do not ladder easily.
  21. Takes me back. Roehampton used to do a fair amount of ballet. Middlesex and De mont fort were mainly contemporary. Most universities have dance societies which offer additional classes. Which one does she like the most? What facilities do they have? Accommodation/clubs/library etc are all other things to consider.
