  1. Happy New Year to you all! The online application for MIDAS auditions for 2017 (September start) is now live again via www.midas-dance.org.uk. Students must be year 4 or above (going into year 5 in September). Pupils who are associates of the Royal Ballet School do not need to audition to join MIDAS, but due to a large demand for places all other prospective students must audition. Auditions will be held on a Sunday, towards the end of May/beginning of June. Audition dates will only be allocated after the closing date of April 30th. If you have any questions about the scheme that you cannot find the answer to via a forum search, or on the website then please feel free to PM me.
  2. Hi, I'm looking for a dance school in the Oxfordshire area. I'm 17 and decided against auditioning for vocational school this year but am dancing near vocational level ballet. I am looking for a good class to go to daily as I've just moved and I don't want to lose my daily class routine. Any suggestions?
  3. Hi everyone, just wondering if some of the post 16 musical theatre schools/colleges are known for having a more ballet-focused training that may suit an all-rounder student with an overall preference for ballet ......I know that all college courses provide ballet training - but wondered if some offered more than others or put a higher emphasis on it - just curious ? many thanks
  4. I was wondering if anybody could provide any information about what kind of questions are usually asked at interviews for Upper Schools? Many thanks!

  7. Hello there Folks, I need a little bit of advice.. I run a ballet company and associates programme, but I am really struggling to get the word out there about what we are doing. Obviously all the usual places (Instagram and FB ect), but it is so hard trying to reach people, especially when local schools misunderstand what you are trying to do and think you are poaching their pupils. The point is to make more jobs for dancers and give young dancers extra more professional training, in addition to where they currently train. It is really hard when you are just trying to help improve the dance industry and the futures for young people, but please may I have any suggestions of where you would normally look for additional more serious training, where to advertise and what people are looking for as I am struggling somewhat. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! S x
  8. Hello. I’m completely new to this and would love some advice please. We live in Northern Ireland. My dd is 12 and has been studying RAD ballet for 5/6 years. She really wants to take it further and we were thinking of an associates program. We don’t really have great opportunities for aspiring ballet dancers here in Northern Ireland. Which ones should I look at? What’s available out there? Is there anyone on here that travels to mainland uk from NI? I am completely clueless and need your help. Lol. I’ve obviously heard of RBS and Elmhurst and Scottish Ballet. I believe we have missed auditions for RBS and SB for this year tho. What other ones is there? Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊

  13. Hi I'm looking for a class in the same style as John O'Brien used to teach at City Lit in London for years on a Monday and Friday morning and also , in more recent years, at Pineapple. A fantastic combination of continual movement , stretching and ballet form both in the barre and centre. His classes were sometimes covered by someone called Tamara, who I think had her own school in SE London somewhere. Anyone know a class or who used to go to his classes I'd love to find out some more information. I went for years while I lived in London from the 90s to 2000s

  15. My mum has been making stunning ballet skirts for my 15 year old daughter to support her training, and now has her own web page as they are so popular with her friends. They are the most beautiful fabrics and things of beauty, and she is making new ones all the time! Please visit her page as they would make lovely Christmas gifts for any dancer. www.patsballetskirts.co.uk or etsy.com PatsBalletSkirts Thank you!
  16. I’m looking for some advice on my daughters ballet. She’s been at the same school since she was 2 and has danced there for 5 years now, she’s almost 8 and still hasn’t sat her primary ballet exam. The principal teacher told me in January this year that she’d be sitting in November 19 and now I’ve been told, without any explanation that she won’t be sitting it until March 20, by which point she’ll be at the age when most of the girls in the dance school sit Grade 1. I know it’s not always important to do exams but I’m worried about this affecting my daughters confidence. When is it normal to sit a RAD primary ballet exam? Thanks xx
  17. https://youtu.be/e27c3JmlbNM Has anyone else seen this? It is hard enough for ballet boys dealing with schoolyard teasing. This is prime time tv in US.

  19. Hello there Folks, New here to ballet forum so hello to you all! So I run New Works Ballet Theatre, a new ballet company based in Bristol, with the intention of bringing more ballet to the South West of England and beyond, brand new inventive ballets and retellings and creating more jobs for professional dancers. The company also runs an Associates programme, which I am expanding on. Are there any young dancers out there looking to train more professionally who would be interested? The programme teaches not only ballet and contemporary dance, but also a variety of different dance workshops, choreography, ballet history, sports science, nutrition, how to run a company and put on productions to name but a few. Also the Associates regularly perform with the professional company and in their own productions. I really want the training that the youngers receive to be a gate way of training into the company, would anyone be interested in that? We have just started work on our Winter production of Little Mermaid. xx

  25. Hi guys, DS is looking for some private lessons in North West/North Wales. He’s 11 and is feeling a bit left out. He’s had RAD classes for 3 years but finds the syllabus “boring” and wants to learn some man moves! We’ve asked his previous teacher but she can’t fit him into her schedule, which is another story! 😯 He's at the gangly age where his legs are too long for his brain and would really benefit from 1-1 time with a teacher. We are happy to travel, within reason and are looking at other ideas too like CAT schemes etc etc. Hope you guys can help. 👍👍👍 He’s really missing his classes...xx
