  1. You could try Northern and Ballet West. London Studio Centre could also be an option. Do not forget there are options abroad too. Getting to Elmhurst Finals is very promising. Good luck with the hunt.🤞
  2. Sorry Michelle but I do not know how exactly they will modify. The videos by ballet gremlin are very informative and give an example.
  3. Hi Michelle, They are on the RAD page but the level 2 will be modified.
  4. Maturity in dancing develops and at 9 she is very young. Perhaps ask the J.A. teacher if there are specific movements/expressions which could help. Not quite ballet but an example which might help is a clip from Dance Moms. Maddie Ziegler danced a solo called Cry. Her younger sister then danced it once she reached the same age. Both performed the steps but Maddie’s performance and maturity was much better. Both clips are on YouTube.
  5. The level 2 exam is equivalent to grade 5/IF. Do not forget these variations are danced by ballet principals so should be sufficiently challenging to do well although they have stated level 2 will be modified. Level 4 will be the full version.
  6. I do like the idea of stating pointe on the certificate. Not sure how RAD will recognise though.
  7. Men do extra allegro to gain marks. Women get 10 designated marks for pointe technique If to Advanced 1. 20 marks for advanced 2
  8. I do think there should be some acknowledgment for doing it on pointe as the degree of difficulty is increased. 😼
  9. Cecchetti in Newport take from 8 years old. They are very accommodating and there is a variety of dancers that attend ranging from JAs to recreational. Each month is a different teacher and my Dds enjoyed immensely and were sad to leave but other opportunities came along.
  10. Yes will do just wanted to point out not everyone has flat turnout but can still make it. Misty Copeland does also not fit the Balanchine fashion. Go for J.A. audition and do not forget there are other associates too👯‍♀️
  11. Two of the best ever...Anna Pavlova and Margot
  12. Really hope they arrive. Good luck for open day 👯‍♀️
  13. Amazon may be your best bet as you may get next day. They do stock Bloch, Katz and Capezio among others. Some bridal shops stock flat ballet shoes. Larger Sainsbury’s sell basic leather shoes up to size 5-not the best but would be fine for a basic pair.
  14. Part of my role is to assess applications for health courses including nursing and paramedic science. Unfortunately, we do not accept dance or music points. I think it is because many people outside of dance/music do not understand them or the work that goes into them. I do try and take it into consideration when assessing the overall but officially it is the A levels that count. It is a shame really because to get to grade 8 in either genre you need commitment and maturity.
  15. Pro ballet dancer please take time before you reply. I am a health professional and know the people concerned. I was not suggesting they do not get the help they need. However, when treatment is being offered it is helpful to know what people do. Risks and benefits can be properly assessed and treatment tailored to the individual. Stardancer miss you too xx
  16. Good luck to you and Dd. I wondered why we had not seen you. I hope she gets the treatment she deserves. Make sure the surgeon explains all options available and any risks involved. Emphasise to him the level your Dd is working at in regards to ballet. Hugs and kisses to you both xx
  17. Unfortunately certain schools have been investigated before and nothing appears to have been done- you can google Linda Goss for her remarks having taught at the most famous UK one. The supply and demand is an issue. There will always be more people willing to go. Let’s hope in the future all schools will ensure care of the child comes first.
  18. Thanks both. Both are long journeys for us but at least with the Central one she would do more. Dd is worried about leaving Elmhurst but I think she would benefit more from Central. She has to audition yet mind and be re-assessed for Elms so it may not be an issue at all🤔 Time will tell.
  19. Hi Muddledmama, Personally I feel some people have been very judgmental towards you but I appreciate it is difficult on a forum. I am happy to support you via DM if needed.
  20. I was just wondering whether anyone has experience of both schemes? Central seems to offer more in terms of genres and hours. Dd1 would like to go there in the future. Central have suggested she apply for assoc but it would mean leaving Elmhurst if she got the place.
  21. Are there any teachers near you that teach Russian or Cecchetti? Both my dds vastly improved technique wise doing Russian. They both still do RAD but it can be very easy to just learn the steps for the grade in order to pass exams especially if the school just focuses on this. Russian and Cecchetti both have a lot of free work so your Dd would have to have secure technique to take exam rather than just know a syllabus. There are Cecchetti associates which are less restrictive on body type but could act as a boost of confidence for your Dd. It really helped my Dd2 who is now 11 but feels overshadowed balletwise my elder sister. Hugs to your Dd.
  22. Not sure where you are but Bristol Russian Ballet School are running one.
  23. Dancique in Birmingham is open tomorrow until 4. It may be a bit of a way though. May take you 2 hours if M4 jnt 28-24 open.
  24. Hi Ponklemum, Newport in Essex, iow or Wales? If it is the latter everywhere near closed on Sundays.
