  1. Merry Christmas to allšŸ¾šŸ¾
  2. There is a small amount of pointe in audition so pointe shoes will be takenšŸ‘šŸ»
  3. Sounds a fair amount for her age and level. Dd1 is 14 she does 2.5 hours on a Monday, 1.5 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 6 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours alternate Sundays as part of a youth company. She manages her schoolwork well. Dd2 is 12 and does 1.5 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. She does 6 hours associates on Saturday. If your Dd is managing everything then it is fine. However, if she does struggle or becomes tired then you could consider reducing. Mine only do ballet now and choir once a week.
  4. Thanks everyone for the replies. I think we will take both on the day and see what others are in. I just thought as they added them in for yr10 plus they may prefer them. šŸ¤”
  5. Sounds like you will grow those 2 inches. I am not sure if you have heard of Ballet Cymru but one of their best dancers Lydia Arnoux was under 5 foot. She trained at Elmhurst, did the Genee and danced with them for years. It is harder when you do not quite fit the mold but there are petite dancers at the top- Maria Kotchekova 4ft 11 and Alina Cojacaru is 5ft. I remind my own Dd of this. She is 5ft.
  6. Dd1 auditioning for RBS. For year 10 upwards it states they can wear flats or Demi pointes. Do people usually wear Demiā€™s? Dd1 is used to them from vocational exams but flats are easier to dance in.
  7. How tall are you at the moment? Just asking as Dd1 also petite and will audition next year. On a different note, it can be very hard to get rejections but just remember competition is always high and there are only so many spaces. KS obviously liked you as they have asked to see you again. Keep your chin up and keep going.šŸ˜»šŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø
  8. Bristol Russian are very good with boys but not sure if that is too far? Alternate Sundays is Youth Company and they have boys attending.
  9. Cecchetti tends to be more intricate than RAD, More emphasis on port de bras and freework. Is it a particular grade you are interested in?
  10. Have now heard via email. Dd1 got a yes. Now we just have to come up with the moneyšŸ™€
  11. I believe when it first opened in Devon there were a few teething issues but these have been sorted. Both offer good training.
  12. Yes, I would say the majority of JAs do seem to wear it at yr 7 auditions. They are used to seeing JAs at Elmhurst as many of their yr6 associates change into it there before going up to do their RBS class.
  13. There is a good ISTD school in Cheltenham and the lady who runs it is a principal examiner for the ISTD. She is called Janet Marshall and the school is the Janet Marshall School of Dance. She is very friendly and I am sure she could offer you advice. Her number is 01242 221296
  14. Even that can be wrong. I was always tiny as a child and did not reach the percentile charts. When I was 10, I had scans and x-rays of my bones including my hands. Drs told my parents I would be lucky to reach 4ft 8. I refused growth hormone injections-luckily. I am now 5ft 2- not a giant but outdid all of their assessments.
  15. See if you can take a few classes at Pineapple or Danceworks. You can then see the standard of people around you and consider what kind of standard you are. Talk to your teacher at school and see what they think of your aspirations. Look at the big contemporary schools to see if they offer dance days. You will need proper training to try and reach the standard needed.
  16. Kings International in Barwell are doing a 3 day intensive; Jan 2nd- 4th January.
  17. Hi Primrose, I thought this organisation may be useful for you. It is run by relatives who lost their brother. He had learning disabilities and unfortunately died partly due to neglect. They challenged the Trust involved so maybe able to help you there. They also educate training health professionals on caring for patients with learning disabilities. They have implemented care bundles in Wales and something similar could be introduced in England in Oliverā€™s name. Their website is: http://paulriddfoundation.org/pauls-story/ Hope this helps. Xx
  18. I second having 2 pairs at once to allow proper dry out. Dd1 has quite sweaty feet and her shoes can get quite wet which softens them quickly. Check the shank as well. A hard shank is not always best. Very bendy feet may snap a hard shank quicker and may need a softer shank or a pre arched one-there are older threads about this. Shellac can also be used to prolong the life of the shank. Do the school recommend anything? You could also ask Bloch and see what they recommend. This article is helpful: https://getballetbox.com/pointe-shoe-fitting-complete-guide-getting-best-pointe-shoes/
  19. Hi, I know this is a very old thread but I just wondered if Catrin is still teaching? Dd1 will be beginning Advanced 1 and eventually Advanced 2 but current teacher does not offer. She has suggested she could offer a class but feels Dd would need up to 3 a week for Advanced 2.
  20. Both my Dds have the large Katz bags which fit everything but they moan they are too large. They now have the shoulder bags made by Tendu. Still large enough to fit dance stuff but not too big. Move Dancewear sell them.
  21. Yes, there is a need to but you also have to survive and keep a roof over your head. I try to point this out to both of my dds. It can be disheartening for ones that ā€œmake itā€ to realise they have to have other employment to make ends meet. Both Sergei Polunin and Darcey Busssll have discussed this.
  22. Money may also play a part. Miko could earn far more from Masterclasses and guest appearances than in the Corps at BRB.
  23. Performers used to require this and were known for it. I am not sure if they still do but would imagine so. I have heard Chantry do. You can usually tell from the auditions as if they ask for full stage make-up then classes may be the same. LSC used to be optional for jazz/mt classes.
  24. My 2 dds are just finishing the week at Rugby school with Kings International Ballet Academy. They have loved it and have been worked hard. They have had jazz and contemporary workshops alongside ballet. All of the faculty are professional/ ex professional dancers. I was surprised though at seeing how many older ones of 16 plus there were. Usually there tends to be more youngsters. One for people to consider.
