  1. The Scottish Ballet has a new film out this December. Free online (donation requested) This Christmas, Scottish Ballet will bring the magic of the theatre right into your home. In a deserted city, a young boy stumbles into a theatre. He wanders through the auditorium, where rows of velvet chairs, draping curtains and chandeliers seem to lie in lonely wait for audiences to return. The theatre may be empty, but the show will go on... Starring characters from our most popular festive ballets, the worlds of the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy collide when the theatre bu
  2. Don't miss this. It's really charming, really well put together and no spare fat on it at an hour's running time. The little boy with the football is brilliant. Available till midnight on Christmas Eve.
  3. Ok, I know it's still August but the mumsnet Christmas bargains thread is on number 4 & the Christmas section is now on the Matalan website. They've got lots of Nutcracker themed stuff plus a ballerina tree ornament. https://www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2662530_c000/globe-christmas-decoration-25cm-x-16cm-clear?awc=7991_1503770984_13963789c0478df87508b53445a3f06a&utm_source=78888&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=affiliates https://www.matalan.co.uk/products/search?q=Nutcracker https://www.matalan.co.uk/products/searc
  4. Following on from the success of the summer workshop, my daughter and her emerging small company are running a morning workshop in the Christmas holidays and it would be wonderful if some forum members’ dancers could join her. It is aimed at 8 - 12 year olds and will be held in Henley-on-Thames on Saturday 4th January. They have based the workshop on their current piece and the focus will be contemporary dance, although no contemporary experience will be necessary as they will be adapting it to meet a variety of levels to cater for everyone who signs up. The workshop will be lead
  5. Hi My daughter has got 4 weeks off over Christmas so I am looking for intensives or workshops. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi! What happens at other schools at this time of year? Hammond seems to abandon dance for the last 2 weeks of term in favour of Carol service preparation !! Just not ideal preparation for auditions for Y11s!!!
  7. Christmas. Sorry to start so early, but DD has her birthday 4 days before Christmas, and then I have to buy presents on behalf of relations that have no clue what to get her, so I end up needing four or five times as many ideas as I can reasonably think of if I leave it till December. DD will be 11 this year. She recently moved from a very laid-back dance school to a much keener one and is now doing 8 classes a week minimum, because she needs to catch up. She is absolutely loving it (rather more than I am loving spending my life driving her about tbh, but I'm making a lot of progres
  8. According to the Daily Telegraph article provided in today's Links http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/bbc/12009837/Male-ballet-dancers-are-now-centre-stage-says-Darcey-Bussell.html, "The programme [Darcey's Ballet Heroes] is intended to be broadcast at the end of the BBC's Year of Song and Dance, and will be joined by documentaries about Nureyev, Acosta, and Pina Bausch." Can't say I'd been particularly aware of the "Year of Song and Dance", but there you are.
  9. I've just found out that because of extended engineering work on Southeastern from Christmas Eve up to and including January 3rd there will be no rail services into Cannon Street, Waterloo East and Charing Cross, plus no Southeastern services to London Bridge. You might want to bear this in mind if any of these are your usual way of getting to the Coliseum and/or Royal Opera House (and also South Bank and so on ...) I also assume, from last year's experience, that travel will probably be totally hell on January 4th as well.
  10. Can anyone recommend certain areas to see decent Christmas lights etc? Wan to to take DD up in a couple of weeks for the day / eve and don't know where's best - she's not into shopping for clothes so only really thinking of convent garden for a hot Choc and street entertainment, and probably hamleys would love any other ideas :-)
  11. Hi just wondering if 1) anyone else buys their dance teacher a gift for Christmas and 2) does anyone have any good ideas on what to get? Just though would be nice to swap ideas, this also goes for school teachers too ???????????????? got my Christmas head on today!!
