  1. There isn't much info available about YDS, as scholars are told that they must not discuss/mention YDS on social media. YDS is weekly, on a Saturday. DD auditioned and was offered a place, but we choose to stay with Renaissance Arts Scholars in Leeds. We prefered the flexibility of classes once a fortnight on a Sunday afternoon.
  2. DD hasn't/isn't auditioning for lower schools as that is not what she wants to do, we're starting to think about/look at upper schools, but she'd rather wait till 18plus to further her training as she is looking at musical theatre rather than classical ballet and I am already scared of what the future may or may not hold for her. But as you say ... you just have to support and encourage them to follow their dreams. ( whilst holding a happy smile on your face! )
  3. What lovely things, clever girl. My DD suggested 'arty insta posts' ... I'm not really on/into social media so I have no idea! Good luck xx
  4. DD wanted leather ones as she wears through the canvas ones quite fast ... but she couldn't get a good fit for her feet and said they were uncomfortable to dance in, so we've gone back to the Capezio canvas half shoes.
  5. Congratulations. You are an inspiration. Wish i could think of a way to help with finding grants. Does your local authority/district or local council have any funding available for educational purposes? Could you talk to Lions or Rotary clubs? Good luck x
  6. DD did the York Scholars Summer school a couple of years ago and loved it. She would go again, but has other commitments. DD also did OPES, which i know isn't running anymore, but the Parkers are running something, near Nottingham...i just can't remember what it is called!
  7. LOL! I was going to say that DD wears Silky 60 denier convertible tights and they appear to last brilliantly! ( albeit in random shades of grey pink! )
  8. Not Jazz .. but have you seen their tap version of winter wonderland? Amazing!
  9. I've seen some lovely solos to some of the songs from Chicago. bye bye blackbird is another jazz type song I've seen done as a solo dance. i think it helps to have a story in your mind as you dance. good luck x
  10. wonderful .... and they didn't mention the parents you meet as well !!! 😂
  11. I have nothing to add particuarly, but wanted to say that since starting Acro, my DD has majorly improved her core strength and overall strength and stamina.
  12. She did the musical theatre course. She loves ballet too, and it was hard to choose between the two courses. She just wasn't taken by the whole feel of the place.
  13. DD did a summer school there and whilst she had a good time, doesn't want to consider it for the future.
  14. Happy Christmas everyone. Wishing you all a wonderful, peaceful and healthy 2019 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
  15. I was just googling the same thing myself! 😎 I think I'm going to do a loop at the back, but will check with DDs teacher first!
  16. There is a dance shop in Hartlepool called 'Lets Dance' who were at a dance competiton we were at last summer, fitting Gaynor Minden shoes. I know the daughters of a friend were very happy with the fitting, and their new shoes. Planet Dance in Batley fitted DD with her pointe shoes, it seemed to be a long and thorough fitting, although it wasn't for GMs.
  17. LOL! I bought DD a mermaid to remind her that we'd been to see Northern Ballets little mermaid for a christmas present!
  18. Hope she has a wonderful time 😊
  19. DD uses a canvas tote bag with a selection of smaller zipped bags ( like makeup bags/large pencil cases/A4 size zipper bags she found somewhere! etc ) inside, with each class having its own 'bag' and then bags for hair stuff etc!
  20. sounds great, and I wish we could come - it's only a couple of hours drive, but sadly we are away that weekend. I hope it goes really well x
  21. Around 9 DD was totally uninspired by ballet, and only continued with class as it was before another she still loved! (and her friends did it!) Her teacher wanted her to join the RAD class and she refused. 6 mths later, ballet was 'Ok' and 6 mths again later she loved it, and 6 mths later again decided to try RAD. She suddenly 'got' ballet, and now, at 13, attends as many ballet classes as she can fit in! Her first love is still tap and assorted forms of modern dance, but she can see how ballet influences all other dance forms. However, I was prepared for DD to give up dancing if that was what she really wanted to do.
  22. DD has wide feet !!! She likes so danca SD16 split sole in canvas, who do a wide fitting, and I think capezio also do a wide fit. A few years ago, she had a lovely pair of bloch split soles with leather at the front and neoprene at the back and heel. They were expensive though, and she only got them as needed shoes ASAP and they were the only ones the shop had, that fitted. ( LOL, that was the last time we went to that shop, as i can't believe they didn't have ANYTHING else in her size except these ones! ) I now tend to buy starlite flexi canvas shoes, and although they are not very wide, they do seem a good fit, and I order several pairs at a time! good luck!
  23. slightly off topic ... but i didn't know where else to ask! DD is off to Tring on Sunday for the musical theatre summer school, and as we've got a long drive, i'm planning on heading off early and stopping for lunch and then maybe having a walk /afternoon tea/cup of coffee before dropping her off at 5pm. Any suggestions for places to go to eat/walk/visit? Thanks x
  24. Still non residential as far as I know! One of DDs friends has been staying with a CAT friend who lives locally, and as they are older, they have been getting the bus/train.
  25. DD has friends who go to Northern CAT ... 3/4/5 days a week ... usually one day at the weekend and the rest after school ... not sure on timing but say 4-7ish. PLUS obligatory Summer/Easter courses and extra rehearsals for events. Great training and experience but HUGE commitment from families.
