Room 101

That is really frustrating. I had something similar once, where I stayed home while the rest of my family went out specifically to collect a package that was coming. I sat waiting for the package, and after a while I went to inspect the letterbox, which had a missed delivery card in it. Turns out because there was no car in the drive they hadn't even knocked. I just wish I had heard the missed delivery card being posted so I could go and chase them down. Luckily it wasn't something we needed urgently, but I was more than a bit miffed on missing a family day out for no reason

They probably saw the rest of the family going out, so made an assumption. If so, they could have tried flagging down said leavers!

Maybe I should be putting said blame on my sister then. Wouldn't necessarily be her fault, but we just like blaming things on each other

Interestingly, when I try tracking it today, I'm getting a "this is where your driver is and how many stops he has before he gets to you"-type indication.  There was nothing of the sort yesterday, which makes me wonder if it was ever really scheduled for then.

My partner is always on the phone to certain delivery people complaining he was in all day so why was there a card put through the letter box suggesting he was out. We have a ding dong doorbell but sometimes I think they don’t bother to even ring it if the house just seems quiet!
I know they are under pressure but it is infuriating if you’ve been in all day and they don’t bother to knock/ring etc.

I appreciate that this has been mentioned by people before but I really object to the discrimination against people booking single tickets that is being applied to social distance seating arrangements in theatres.

I'm not the only one who objects to the discriminations shown to single ticket bookers:

Putting sports commentators / pundits into Room 101.

There are two tennis commentators who still pronounce 'Swiatek' as 'shivontek' rather than 'shveeontek' - that's just lazy and disrespectful** .  Mark Petchey last night during the Raducanu-Rogers match said something like “it’s always entertaining when these two meet”. They’d never met before.  Sally on GMTV just now spoke about the same match happening overnight while we were asleep. It was on at 730pm. Can we please either have technically proficient commentators like Daniela Hantuchova or just go with Alan Partridge!

**by the way there's a great site called Forvo.com that has native speakers pronouncing most names and words - useful for getting the stress right for Russian dancers!

I'm rather sorry that Botic van de Zandschulp is out - if he starts being a regular contender for things he'll be a nightmare for commentators to pronounce, especially if they do it correctly :)

Indeed, they need a 'phlegmatic' approach to the sch !

Those bus extra stopping times in London where an announcement says “ the driver has been asked to wait a few minutes at this stop to even out the service”

Even out the service my foot!
Twice recently ....once just last Thursday when on a 38....this happened and another 38 came up and joined us at the stop and followed us all along Rosebery Avenue!
If we hadn’t stopped for longer at the stop there would have been a better gap between buses instead of two at once!!

I don’t know who makes these decisions but they need better ground intelligence lol!

Saturday’s train home provided quite a contrast following Friday evening’s and Saturday matinee’s fabulous double R&J. I’d upgraded to Standard Premium and all was good to Preston where a group of football supporters joined the train. For some reason the train was in reverse order with 1st class/standard premium at the front. The supporters took up a fair number of seats and I’d answered their questions about where the train was heading and was it stopping at Lancaster as many of them were getting off there. I wasn’t that bothered by the noise and drink as I thought it would only be for 10 minutes or so but was astonished to see some of them smoking, sharing I know not what other than it wasn’t tobacco. I was then even more taken aback when a number started snorting cocaine. Someone managed to break a light fitting and a few decided they’d take the standard premium headrest covers. At Lancaster a number of police met the train and whilst the majority of supporters got off, the transport police escorted the remaining handful down the train. The guard came through after leaving Lancaster and I let him know what I’d seen and asked if he might pass cctv footage to the police. Other staff came and made a note of the damage. Having looked at the football fixtures, I could only suggest that the supporters may have been at Accrington Stanley v Morecambe but thought that a bit of a long shot. Anyhow I think I’ll put having trains in reverse order in Room 101 as I wouldn’t want to cast aspersions on Morecambe supporters without evidence albeit had the train been running in proper order, the problem would simply have been transferred to standard coach C.

That’s absolutely awful.

I'd heard previous reports of there being a cocaine problem among football supporters, but would never have expected them to be so blatant about it.

Just for a bit of balance (and being a season ticket holder for the current champions of Europe), I can confirm that I have seen more patrons taking cocaine in cultural venues (including the ROH) than I have football supporters.

I think I must go around with my eyes closed at ROH then…unless it’s all happening in the mens loos there of course!!!
A whole load of football fans together can be a bit intimidating at times especially if tanked up but just as often I’ve found them quite good natured and some even apologising because others are swearing!! Often it depends on how mixed the ages are as to whether they get too over the top they tend to tone themselves down if children or women are present.
But sorry you had to experience that JohnS

Before I moved, I would sometimes find myself having to share a train with loads of Millwall fans.  Quite contrary to their reputation - and to the impression given when they arrived in hordes at London Bridge! - the ones I encountered were generally polite and considerate, sometimes in what we might now consider a rather "old-fashioned" way.

Isn't it Millwall supporters who have a chant, "No-one likes us, we don't care"?  I've never known why!

Was it the Millwall fans who made a thing of wearing Pringle sweaters and not being very pleasant?

Don't know about the sweaters; but they've always had a very dodgy reputation. (And I've only been to one match at The Den but it didn't feel very comfortable!).

they had (have?) a reputation as a particularly virulent gang of football thugs as 'supporters', and until recently did little to refute this

BBC TV continuity announcers, who have suddenly started telling us their names when they announce things.  They're not programme hosts, they're merely there to tell us what's coming up next (and to cover in an emergency).  Does anyone care what their names are?

Avanti Trains!!!

I am booked for a weekend in London in May.  Hotel booked and paid for.  Tickets well and truly booked.

I can get to London but Avanti are not showing any trains at all for Liverpool on the Sunday coming home.

It is incredibly stressful!!

Oh dear! Could it just be that they haven't yet put up the times for that day?
