  1. From memory when DD did her Grade 8 she said it was all about performance and the dances.
  2. I fully understand your daughter wanted to stay at the school her friends are at but personally I would move her. DD stayed at her old school for wat too long, she finally agreed to move and is now at vocational 6th form. Her old teacher spent years bulking her and constantly putting her down to the point where we reached make or break, she moved schools. Your daughter can still see her current dance school friends away from the school.
  3. Like Anna I have a DD who would have jumped at this but term starts the day before.
  4. I understand the need to control tickets being sold at inflated prices but there has to be an easier way. As you say it makes organising evenings or afternoons extremely difficult.
  5. This starting to happen with some West End shows. You get an email confirming your tickets, on the day of the performance you have to take the card you paid with and ID, your whole party have to arrive and enter together. I am guessing it is a way of stopping tickets being sold for inflated prices.
  6. There are currently 2 day pupils at WL in yr 7, so yes it does happen.
  7. Current first years ? One of them definitely is.
  8. One of the current first yr RBS US students started at Elmhurst and joined WL in yr 9, having got a no from them for yr 7 ( WL spotted the student while visiting Elmhurst and offered the student a place )
  9. DD did a masterclass with her a couple of years ago and she was so kind and friendly. A genuinely lovely person.
  10. Fiz that it wonderful news, as the saying goes “Good things come to those who wait”
  11. What an inspirational person. Like you Jan, I always felt he was going to go on forever.
  12. DD slimply loves being with like minded people. They all had to audition and all want to be there which instantly takes away a large chunk if not all of the competitive environment. If anything DD has found it less competitive.
  13. Funding is a very difficult one. Unfortunately there isn’t enough money to fund every child and every college/school have different ways of awarding it and have different amounts to divide up. I know plenty of children who have been awarded funding from one place but not another. I don’t believe it says anything about the potential of your child, if they have been offered a place they see potential in them no matter whether they can offer them funding or not.
  14. These are very wise words. DD much to the amazement of her teachers and school friends is doing a Btec in performing arts (plus A level English but that independent to her college ) As I have said in the other thread that is similar to this, she will end up with the equivalent of 3 A levels from her Btec, hopefully equivalent to straight A’s if she gets straight distinctions. She is looking at degree course rather than level 6 diploma at 18. We looked at Tring but she wasn’t ready to go away at 16, she was at a non vocational school doing dance after school and got straight A/A*/8 at GCSE last summer, so very academic. It has without doubt been the right decision for her. Her course is full time and she absolutely loves it. Her attitude to A levels was that they never go away, you can do them when ever you feel like it. The one she is doing she only recently started. Which is also the same for degrees and university, they will always be there.
  15. Lovely message from Miss Lewis on Facebook.
  16. My DD is in her first year of BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. She is very academic but had had enough of the academic world, knew she wanted to be in the performing arts world but wasn’t ready to go away at 16. We have been incredibly lucky as a new 6th form college opened, it only does BTEC or Foundation course. She is absolutely loving it however she is doing an A level off her own back through an online college but that’s because she is also passionate about English. So she will end up with that A level plus her btec which is the equivalent to 3 A levels, she is looking at auditioning all over the place next year, all the course she is looking at are degree course. The college she is at has been set up by the person who originally set the BTEC course up at Pendleton College. The course there has an amazingly successful track record of students going on to have successfull careers in performing arts.
  17. We now have no hot water as the immersion heater decided to go on strike. So far I am the only one to have a warm shower today, thanks to my gym membership. I have suggested the rest of them go for a swim this evening and then have a shower. Boiler man arriving sometime today ....... Yes we had had a lovely day which definitely helped. Hope yours gets sorted today. On the plus side the weather is much warmer today 😄
  18. That’s really interesting, it’s the one thing that drives us mad about theirDVDs. Thank you thewinelake, DD had a ball and is feeling really quiet lonely today.
  19. We got back late last night from EYB to discover water dripping out of our boiler and no heating/water. Sadly it’s looking like we need a new one, it is 30 yrs old, and our heating guy has been predicting this for sometime. He is coming tomorrow and I have spent the morning borrowing heaters. So relieved it has warmed up.......
  20. Well that’s a wrap. It has been an eventful few weeks —— rehearsals in a freezing cold school, battling through the snow to get to Thursday’s tech run, sharing lifts back and forth to the Premier Inn, the laughter we had chaperoning all weekend especially in room 3 and finally the cast who simply got better and better with an incredible final performance. Untill next it it has been a blast.
  21. Don’t panic, enjoy the experience. Performance experience is really important.
  22. Congratulations to your DS. EYB is a fantastic experience. Please do try and come to Rickmansworth ( the snow isn’t very bad here, compared to other places) and Coppélia is a great fun Ballet. Virtually all the cast made it to last nights tech run.
