  1. If it is that is not equivalent to GCSE it’s equivalent to A level. It’s level 3, DD is currently doing Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts(Dance) and I would not recommend doing it along side GCES. GCSEs are hard work, especially when you are juggling an extra curricular subject outside of school to throw in a level 3 would be crazy. The information about it dies say it’s fir 16-18 year olds and they must have 5 GCSES ........ as invisiblecircus said that is the only one listed on their website. If there is another one, I would still think long and hard. I understand your reasoning but please check the commitment carefully. As I said GCSEs are tough and they need as much help and support from their friends and teachers as possible.
  2. October 6/7 and 24-28 ( half term ) November 2/3/4 performance the following weekend.
  3. As already stated - There are no bad parts, the costumes are amazing as is the whole experience.
  4. DD had those parts when she did Swan Lake. She quickly realised that they were far more fun than being a Swan. They did the Lady in Waiting dance en pointe and the Hungarian in character shoes. They are on stage for the whole of Act 1. Hope that helps.
  5. They don’t sell the t-shirts at casting, there is too much going on.
  6. They don’t expect you to do every performance. I always watch Friday and Saturday night and chaperone the other 3.
  7. They ask for parents to volunteer to be chaperone. Need to have a chaperone license or DBS and needed for all theatre time ( Thursday evening, Friday afternoon and evening, Saturday afternoon and evening)
  8. Always a mad rush the week of the show, please don’t worry.
  9. The Friday afternoon dress rehearsals is for your daughters schools and local schools ( appreciation this one is in the holidays) You are invited to watch the whole thing on the last day of rehearsals BUT there are no costumes, staging etc because it’s in the rehearsal venue. It really is worth getting tickets to see the actual performance.
  10. Yes it’s Act 3 but Bkuebird is a principle role, it includes jewels, Cinderella, guests and others but we can’t fully remember. Hope that helps.
  11. Off to Queens tomorrow, Centre Court 😀 The order of play is fantastic.
  12. They can change very quickly. DD was certain Ballet/Contemporary was the way she was going to go with a very small blip during yr9 when she started thinking about MT. After a conversation with her teacher she was advised against MT. She is now coming to the end of her first yr in a Voc 6th form doing level 3 Extended Diploma and it has completely changed. She has spent hours researching all the various courses for 18+ and her first choice is actor/musician followed by MT. She has realised that although she loves Ballet she would miss all the other disciplines within in the performing arts world. So my advice is do the research etc but more importantly keep an open mind because you just don’t know.
  13. DD has taken exams this year, in her first yr of vocational 6th form but at a cost to me ( exam fee, travel to RAD HQ ) She is also doing ISTD exams also at cost to me but thankfully without the travel.
  14. The t-shirt for the photos is not one they keep.
  15. You find out on the day of casting what part you have.
  16. Another vote for plume here.
  17. Miss Lewis does not mess around with her words, she is brutally honest. Granted there may be others who twist the truth but the dance world is such a brutal and harsh world I doubt there are any professionals who offer help and support who aren’t honest. I certainly know of a few.
  18. They now say don’t bring pointe shoes to the audition.
  19. Our children’s mental health is quiet possibly the most worrying thing for us as parents. Both mine have had mental health problems, they are both the other side but I am incredibly thankful that they felt able to talk to me. The most important think as Kat09 says is we know our children better than anyone else ( most of us, sadly there are some parents who don’t) talk to them, watch them and support them. As a headmaster of my daughters once said “We only have one shot at this “ Thank you both of you for sharing this. Take care
  20. Mine also moved from Cecchetti to RAD, she was Grade 6 at the time. She also prefers RAD but loves the grounding Cecchetti gave her and is now at vocational 6th form.
  21. I do know children who have repeated yr 7, including my nephew ( August birthday ) but they have moved schools to do this.
