  1. DD stopped auditioning once she had received an offer for her first choice. Yes this meant we had paid for auditions and she didn't go but there really seemed no point. Conti are notorious for late audition dates especially if you have have to change the date. It is an expensive time, I worked out including audition fees, travel, accommodation , food etc it cost us over £1000 However I think it was money well spent, its amazing how quickly you for get the stress.
  2. I would really advise, if you can, to go up to RCS DD audition there a few years ago for MT. She absolutely hated the place, up to that point it was one of her top 3 choices. She got through to the second round ( in the afternoon) called me and said she was leaving the building. If we hadn’t gone up there we would never have known how much she dislike it.
  3. IAB is Institute of Arts Barcelona and MADD is Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama. A chart is definitely the way forward, having everything in one places makes it so much easier
  4. DD is in her final year at GSA Actor- Muso degree. Happy to answer any questions. She drew a chart and put everywhere she was applying to whether it was a degree or diploma, fees and what funding. She walked out of auditions because she simply didn’t like the place, couldn’t see the point in going through the day. Ended up with offers from GSA, IAB, MADD, Conti, London College of Music and Arts Ed.Once she got her GSA offer she stopped auditioning, which may sound like we wasted money but GSA was her top choice so we knew there was no point. In fact her UCAS was updated as we were driving into London for her Mountview audition, we simply turned round and went home. I worked out that including audition fees, travel and accommodation it cost us around £1000. We didn’t put a limit on where or how many, just wanted her to get it right. We were very tough with her and said she had to do a degree not a diploma, mainly for funding. She did however get offered a full scholarship for one diploma course. Be aware that Urdang charge extra for the third year show.
  5. DD is about to go into her 3rd year Actor Muso at GSA. Happy to answer any questions. She absolutely loves it there.
  6. My DD is currently 2nd year at GSA ( Guildford School of Acting) doing Actor Muso degree. She went to local vocational 6th and did Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, it is the equivalent to 3 A levels and accepted by UCAS . This meant she had loads of options open to her, to her this was important. Although she had mainly focused on ballet and thought that was the way she would go,she is incredibly musical (Grade 8 and GCSE music by the end of Yr 9) and realised she would miss playing her instruments. She thought after a few weeks that MT would give her everything but then she discovered Actor Muso. If any of you have children who are “Triple Threat” ie they dance, act, sing and play an instrument or 2, I really recommend they look at this course. There are not many and they don’t take students without A levels or the equivalent but it is definitely the way MT is going. Happy to answer any questions.
  7. My DD is at GSA doing Actor Muso and the 3rd years are all finishing now. They are not returning in September. They all have agents, so hopefully will start to audition once everything opens up. It is far to complicated to allow them to redo their finally year, you can’t have 2 final year year groups.
  8. Contact JLD School of Dancing in Kingsclere. www.jldschoolofdancing.co.uk. There website is being revamped but their contact details are there. They do adult ballet on Thursday mornings, mixed abilities with a wonderful teacher. They also do adult Tap on Tuesday evenings.
  9. The last time my DD did EYB, just over a year ago there was one full scholarship and one half for Juniors and Seniors. You have no idea until the audition whether your child is being considered for one as they decided during the audition.
  10. DD is currently at GSA - She audition all over the place last year. Do pm me with any questions. On the the subject of mental health, GSA has one of the best, possible the best in the country.
  11. DD is currently at GSA - She audition all over the place last year. Do pm me with any questions.
  12. Looking forward to seeing this tomorrow with my daughter who is currently at GSA doing Actor Musician degree, her first instrument is the Cello. She has gone down the Actor Muso route rather than dance or MT because she couldn’t imagine life without her Cello. Personally I th8n’ she has the best of everything studying dance, acting, music and voice - sorry that was off tangent
  13. That is awful. Over the years DD has been fitted at various different shops and we have never been charged. We have also had fitters refuse to sell shoes because they weren’t happy ( DD also wasn’t happy ) DD has been through various makes and styles as her feet have changed ( not in size ) but in strength and what she wanted out of a pair of shoes. It’s a very personal thing and patience is really important.
  14. EYB is a fantastic experience and personally I think worth the time and money. My DD performed with then 6 times in total. She gradually moved up the ranks and ended up with solo’s. In her last production with them she was invited to join the principals in their lessons with Miss Lewis. DD cannot thank EYB enough for everything she learnt with them. She has just finished vocational 6th and off to GSA in September to do Actor Musician degree. I will also add she did one performance with them in Yr 11, it was a great way of relaxing during herGCSE year, there were several of them in the same situation. Her last performance with them was just before her auditions this academic year.
  15. Our results are always sent out via email as soon as they arrive, no matter what time of year. DD had Adv 1 next at RAD HQ and results are expected early August.
  16. Moorland do offer bursaries to other year groups/ entry but it is very dependent on circumstances.
  17. I really don’t want to offend but personally I wouldn’t put a picture up of one of my children on a public forum.
  18. and to your DD. Mine is the only one taking hers. I am sure you know but the closing date for Session 1 ( early summer at HQ) was May 3rd, so hopefully your DDs teacher will be able to tell where she has been entered.
  19. DD is taking her Adv 1 in the next exam session at RAD HQ. We will be paying £142 plus travel expenses ( train fare) She has done all her vocational exams at HQ, that’s the way her school work. One of her teachers always meets the students at HQ. We are lucky that London is only an hour away by train. All her other exams have been other exams ( no matter what genre) have been at her dance school studios and we have only ever paid the exam fee, there may have been a few extra lessons and a mock exam ( which we did pay £7 for) but that’s it.
  20. You get student funding with a degree course. DD is just coming to the end of a Level 3 Extended Diploma. She has had offers for Diploma ( full scholarship) and degrees in a mixture of MT and Actor Musician. All at big named colleges. Personally I don’t think it is worth going anywhere just for the sake of it. You need to love the course and college, 3 years is a long time. We definitely haven’t seen the level 3 as a waste of two years in fact quite the opposite. If she had gone at 16 she would definitely be doing the wrong course. The last 2 years have opened her eyes to different courses other than classical ballet/ contemporary or MT which is the way she thought she would end up going. To answer your question : Bird, Urdang, GSA, Arts Ed, Performers, Italia Conti, London Studio Center to name just all offer degree courses.
  21. Funding for a degree is much easier, student loan. Funding for a diploma is dada, scholarship or private funding /loan. And because of that we told DD to only apply mainly for degree course. She was lucky and one of the Diploma course she applied for offered her a full scholarship. Our reasoning for this were we are in the unfortunate situation where are household income is too high for a dada but not high enough to be able to afford diploma fees. We also felt that a degree would open more doors to her if she changed direction. Her GCSE dance teacher advised her to do a degree. She had found that her friends who didn’t have a degree struggled to find employment once their careers had ended. Obviously things change over time. DD looked very closely at all the courses and has chosen to go down the degree route at a very well known college, so for her the best of both worlds a degree with a top name. At the end of the day you need to go where you will be happy regardless of anything else. Good luck
  22. DD is just about to head into her final term of a Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma in MT. She had to have tap shoes had to be fully laced, Oxfords. She also had to have tan not black New Yorkers with a 3” heel. I fully understand your excitement but before you buy anything I would contact the college. DD is at a small college and they don’t put the uniform list on the website but we were emailed it towards the end of May early June.
  23. I have heard of a yes for one yr 9 place.
  24. I hope all goes really well. We did a similar thing years ago and it was the best thing ever, difficult but worth it.
