  1. One other thing - You are 14 and I suspect like most of your age group social media is your best friend ( apart from ballet ) be careful. There is a lot out there and it is very easy to read too much especially regarding body shape/weight / food. Speaking from experience you could be heading down the wrong path. I know you say you aren't but this could be the start especially as you appear to be controlling your food intake. Rather than have one square of dark chocolate, which by the way is health chocolate, have a square of unhealthy milk chocolate ...... enough from me
  2. My DD is 16, 5ft2 with a health BMI, admittedly most of her weight is made up by muscle because of dancing. She eats absolutely loads of both healthy and unhealthy. She dances most days and is going to vocational college in September but knows she needs food, of all sorts, to help her body especially in keeping her energy levels up. I am a long distant runner, so she has grown up seeing me eat a wide range of foods depending on what I feel like. Listen to your body. What I am trying to say is don't be afraid to eat, you are young with a growing body and it needs to be nourished and nurtured. Talk to your dance teachers and go and see your GP between they will be able to help you with your concerns.
  3. Jellyfish everyone has given you very good advice. Granted it may not be what you want to hear but sometimes the truth hurts. It's a very cut throat world, not only for those learning the skills but those already lucky enough to be in a company as well as parents and family who have to watch them go through it all. Is it the world of classical ballet you want to be in ? Very different to being a classical dancer. There are a lot of questions that have been asked and you haven't answered them. Please answer them, people are trying to help you.
  4. That sounds like the scholarship group.
  5. There is only one photo opportunity for parents and that is after the performance on the Saturday afternoon. Here you can take photos of them in their costumes. You will be able to the press photos and buy a copy of them if you want to but you won't be in the room when this all happens. What ever part she gets she will have a fantastic time. DD has performed with EYB three times now and has loved them all.
  6. There is a short talk and then the children are taken off for a class. After the class they have a short break and then casting and press photos are taken. Parents are not allowed to watch the class or casting. You don't have to stay, if you want to there is usually somewhere for you to stay. A word of warning if you leave, depending on how far a way you live will make a difference to when your child finishes. So if you do go home or off somewhere I would arrive back earlier than the predicted finishing time.
  7. We have never had a problem in all 3 of DD performances. DD's school and her friends schools worked GCSE dance moderation around EYB recently. I guess it really does depend on the school.
  8. It depends when the performances are. If they are in the holidays the rehearsals tend to be in blocks over 5 days, we have done that twice now. If the performances are during term time the rehearsals tend to be Friday after school, Saturday, Sunday, we have done that once. The only way to find out when the rehearsals are is to request audition information. There have been several that we have looked at where we could do the performances but not the rehearsals and more crucially not the casting day. I would all say the audition is worth going to for the experience.
  9. They tend to stay outside of London, I have a feeling Wimbledon was a one off. DD has done it 3 times now and people regularly travel for up to 2 hours in order for their children to attend.
  10. Simply amazing, fantastic, wonderful and of course very well deserved
  11. DD has a friend who left vocational school last summer. She is at boarding school for 6th form, ne which has a good level of sport plus joined a high level dance group ( I don't want to say more to protect her ) She found the transition much easier than expected, probably because it was the right thing
  12. There is a leotard from Capezio called Bratek which has a really clever built in bra. Hopefully this link workshttps://www.justballet.co.uk/collections/ladies/products/capezio-bratek-camisole-leotard It is available at other shops but I don't know where you are based so thought this would be the easiest way. Friends of DDs who are size 32 dd wear it, DD has several and loves them.
  13. Full scholarships do happen. We know of a child who got one a couple of years ago, and was genuinely 100%
  14. Lisa it's a bank holiday here on Monday.
  15. Let her wear what she feels most comfortable in.
  16. Confuddled wher are you based ? There are enough of us on here who may be able to offer you advice on other schools in your location.
  17. DD didn't want to move dance schools despite being bullied by the teacher eventually when things got beyond being bad she crumpled. A week later she started at a new school and now wishes she had moved earlier, hindsight is a great thing. Your daughter is young, she will easily make new friends. Sometimes we have to remember that we are the adults.
  18. DD did Tap along side Modern when she was 5/6 she gave it up because she simply didn't like it. She tried again age 8 and did her Primary and Grade 1, it was always a battle but she persisted because her older sister loves it and she had an fantastic teacher. Change of teacher and again she dispaired with it. Change of dance school in year 9, new teacher and now enjoys it. It will never be her favourite genre but it does help with all the other genres in that you have to listen to the music, get the beets right. So although I wouldn't say it's necessary, it certainly won't jeopardise her getting into youth ballet. DD is currently rehearsing with EYB and a large proportion of them all do tap ( she is a senior ) along with other genres.
  19. BlueLou mine is spending a week at Ballet West this summer with a view to it being one she applies for in 2019. She would have loved to have done two weeks but her summer is simply too busy this year.
  20. Just Ballet and they have another delivery arriving very soon
  21. We moved DD but it took me years to convince her that she should. For whatever reason she was very loyal to a really mean teacher. Hindsight is a great thing and she now wishes she had moved years ago. She was in a school where they all moved up together, some where allowed to take the exam there's were told they wouldn't get a good enough mark so couldn't take the exam but could move up because they needed to keep the age group together. It was very 'old school ' and you never questioned the teacher. She is now at a school where there are mixed age groups particularly in the higher grades and vocational grades. It works, the older ones help the younger ones and the younger ones love the older ones. Sometimes you have to remember you are the parent, I know that is harsh but in the end I gave DD no choice. The result is she has gone from being told she wasn't any good to getting into vocational 6th form. Your DD obviously loves her dancing, being board can very quickly destroy that.
  22. DD used to use lambs wool which we bought on line
