  1. DDs schools timetable currently shows up to Adv Found but that is because there isn't anyone studying a higher level, said f and when there is it will be put into the timetable. So I echo above just because it isn't on the timetable doesn't mean it can't or won't happen, so ask the question first.
  2. Armydancer that is a really lovely thing to say.
  3. She is one of those people who you simply don't question. Her heart is in the right place BUT she is v old school. DD learnt an awful lot from her and one thing she struggles with is children not respecting teachers
  4. DD started Intermediate when she was Grade 6, which was when she moved schools andmoved from Cecchetti to RAD. Up until this point she had only studied one grade at a time. She enjoyed the challenge of the two different levels, 2 classes of each. She is now Grade 8 and taking her Inter next month. It would never have occurred to me to ask her to do this if it hadn't been offered. Having said that we were at a school where everyone was terrified of the owner/ teacher so you simply didn't questioned her. However if we had been at our current school and DD had started to ask for more, I wouldn't have thought twice about asking and seeking advice from her teachers. As for starting IF, some of the pupils at DDs school started it when they are Grade 3, some wait until Grade 5 ( DD skipped it ) Some are never asked to join the IF class. It really is about ability, strength rather than grade level plus RAD did have minimum ages.
  5. DD started age at a school where Cecchetti was taught, at that time the classes were split, some did the grade others did standard. It was always the weaker, less confident ones who did Standard, they all moved up grades together. Two years ago, for various reasons she moved to a RAD school. It was quiet a shock, after 8 years of Cecchetti. That term she was due to take Grade 6 Cecchetti, her new school put her in RAD Grade 6. It took her a good six months to get used to the change in language and positions of arms. However 2 years on she is about to take her Intermediate in December and hopefully her Grade 8 next term, she is 15. We were always told ( by a friend who teaches both Cecchetti and RAD) that Cecchetti grades 1-4 are harder than RAD grades 1-4 but from grade 5 upwards they even out. DD feels she really benefits from knowing both styles. At the end of the day Grades in dance are like grades in Music ( both my girls are Grade 8 on two instruments) they are guide lines. It's very easy to get swept along with " you are this age, so should be this Grade" we are all different, some will get there much quicker than others. The really important thing is that your child enjoys their classes and gets as much as possible out if them.
  6. It really would be and the sort if thing my non DD is looking for next year, sadly she needs to be uk based.
  7. They don't know but think it's because they have never been to Salisbury and word simply hadn't got out. Like Aylesbury they are doing Ballet Etudes and the Nutcracker Suite.
  8. Poor thing. The reserve list really does move, DD got a place from the reserve list a few years ago, so fingers crossed. Well done to your older daughter. DD has loved all her productions with EYB. DD was successful at Salisbury last night. There were a few of them who were in the Oxford production last month and they all got in. It was the smallest audition class I have ever seen ( DD has done 5 EYB senior auditions and up until, last night they have always been 100+ auditioning ) last night there were 39 seniors and they took 20. It definitely was harder because they were all very obviously visible.
  9. I would email and check. I am sure you can but haven't seen anyone do that at the last few auditions we have been to. DD is doing Salisbury on Tuesday as the Aylesbury dates clash with too many but a lot of her friends will be there. Good luck to your daughters.
  10. DD is doing her Intermediate exam in December, her old soft blocks literally fell apart 2 weeks ago. She was devastated because they had become really comfortable, her news ones are getting there and hopefully will be fine for exam. She is wearing them in all her Intermediate lessons, which is what her dance school expect them to do.
  11. Can they really go in the washing machine?????? DD's are a really mess after EYB and having to use loads of rosin during rehearsals I am guess a v gentle wash ? With than in a pillow case
  12. DD loves hers. She didn't get them until last year by which time she had been en pointe for 4 years. Her teacher loves the fit of them on her feet but won't let anyone think about having them until, they are a few years down the line. Although expensive they have definitely lasted the longest. I would definitely check with her teacher before you buy them as they real are like marmite.
  13. I know of a yr 6 boy who got in this summer ( 2016) He wasn't a JA, so yes it is possible
  14. Reading this has made me realise how incredibly lucky we are with DD's dance school. They do all the RAD grades including Vocational plus all the ISTD Modern and Tap plus LAMDA. Not all the students do the vocational grades, they are carefully selected and the students know it is an honour to be asked to take them. It is a big commitment- 2 x 1 hour vocational classes a week plus 2 x grade classes. They are still expected to take grades along side working towards their vocational grades. DD is taking her Intermediate this term, this is her 7th term of lessons. She took her Grade 7 last term and is taking her Grade 8 either next term or in the summer.
  15. Meant to add - her birthday present for January will happen in December as she is doing a UK masterclass
  16. Dd's birthday is a month after Christmas Eve,for the last 5 /6 years we have bought theatre tickets. We try and go to ROH, to help make up for having her birthday so soon after Christmas especially as most of our family seem to forget ( she finds it quite funny, thankfully)
  17. I think it varies from school to school but the legal minimum is 5, including Maths and English. DD is currently in yr 11 and juggling, I have absolutely no idea how she does but she does. She took her Music GCSE in yr 9 and was allowed to leave that column free when it came to selecting her GCSEs, although some staff weren't too happy and only forgave her because she got an A* ! At the end of yr 10 we fought very hard and eventually got permission for her to give up RPE. We are lucky she has very understanding head of pastoral care. She is doing English Lang, English Lit, Maths, Further Maths, Biology,Chemistry,Physics,History,Mandarin and Dance. Most days she has a study period and gets as much as possible done then. She is currently doing 14 hrs a week of dance outside school plus another 3.5hrs in school, and EYB rehearsals ( they finish next weekend) There isn't one day during the week when she doesn't dance. However I do think it is up to the individual. As I said she is incredible good at juggling everything.
  18. I buy them from eBay, they are about £7.95 per pair, sometimes cheaper. My local dance shop original introduced us them sell them for about £9 a pair ( I know I should support them but even with the discount, they sometimes give, they are cheaper online )
  19. DD has worn Tendu convertible small adult( she is petite and 5ft 3) for the last 4 years. They only get replaced when they are grey, which tends to be after 6-8mths depending on how careful I have been at washing them and how many pairs we have on rotation.
