Vocational school applications for Y7 entry 2022
Fiz replied to BalletBoysDad's topic in Doing Dance
Get well soon and congratulations to your ds. -
They are nice! It makes me wish that I was still dancing as well as the fact that I miss it a great deal.
-
I pray that he and his family and friends stay safe.
-
@balletbeanI really hope he’s safe. He sounds such a lovely person.

A young lad (19yrs) sent my DD very generous Valentine gifts as he was smitten by her (even though there was an obvious language barrier) before ‘popping home’ to Ukraine for a week to see his family before starting his new contract. Despite their best efforts no one knows what’s happened to him . 😞😢Is there anymore news about this poor boy, @balletbean? I confess that this story has haunted me.

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
Fiz replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I’ve always felt she was either an illusion or a sort of robot von Rothbart had created. The sinister by play that is used so successfully by Gary Avis and the Odette/Odile ballerina gave me that idea.- 1,276 replies

I would imagine that 45 minutes every week is better in that it enforces muscle memory better. My dd's ballet teacher insisted on two hours of class from Grade Three onwards plus two classes of vocational grades every week so my dds were doing four and a half hours of ballet from the age of nine.

I can’t offer any advice, @Angela Essexbut this is amazing progress when you have been dancing for such a short time. Congratulations!

I do know that certain Russian and other Iron Curtain skaters and gymnasts were given tablets with the bland explanation that they were vitamins and take them. They now wonder what they really were. Plus ca change…

How much to perform in end of year (local) dance school show?
Fiz replied to invisiblecircus's topic in Doing Dance
That sounds like our dds dance school in Cambridge, @taxi4ballet.Mind you, that was twenty years ago so it probably felt more especially as they all did tap and modern as well as ballet. -
Congratulations!

What Got You Into Watching Ballet?
Fiz replied to Dawnstar's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Seeing the picture of the pink Degas dancers on my father’s collection of Tchaikovsky records and then hearing his music. I think I must have seen ballet on Blue Peter but I didn’t see any live ballet until I was about nine and then not till our dds were learning ballet. -

Thank you for everything, Bruce. Good luck with whatever you want to do in the future. We’re all very grateful to you. -
None of the universities my younger dd applied to took LAMDA or dance exam points.

That is exactly what I was told by an ISTD teacher and in fact my dds’ dance school used to teach both syllabi in the upper levels.
-
I feel the same way after watching tennis or other forms of sport as well as ballet.
-
I have just finished “Tears of a Ballet Mum”. It’s a must read for ballet fans and mothers of dcs contemplating vocational school.

Swan Lake Moscow City Ballet

I have a mate on Twitter who drives a truck for a living. It’s very hard work and can be deadly dull when he has to wait hours to be unloaded or reloaded. He used the time he was waiting to read and eventually ended up reading Shakespeare with a little encouragement from a mutual friend. He loved it and it has opened his eyes to classical literature and music which he missed at school. He knows my love of ballet and went to see a travelling company. He now loves ballet and has been several more times. It’s never too late. -
Also he will be more unbearable than ever after this and so will all his baying fans. This is not good news. He broke Australian law and should pay for it!

He’s very anti vax and if he really had Covid in December this is the second time that he has had it after it spread all round a tennis tournament he organised in 2020. His wife caught it too. I think he’s thoroughly irresponsible.
