  1. It may be she doesn't teach IF but moves the pupils straight onto intermediate. Or all her IF pupils have moved up the grades and none are ready to move into the class yet so the time is used for another class. This used to happen frequently at the schools my dd attended, the vocational classes were smaller so if everyone has taken exam over the year and moved up but no one teacher thinks suitable the class would disappear until a few were ready for it to be re-established.
  2. Bumping this as first performance tonight and still low ticket sales.
  3. Like Stirrups I've never had a problem finding a centre. We have experience of public schools just charging the the exam fee and saying it is part of their drive to support local community - nothing added for admin or invigilation even when exams have been longer than school exam. If at BT UK is it worth seeing if college does evening A levels?
  4. If they are in house events could it be that the insurance and child protection issues/ratios are putting a halt to having non boarders attend? Is it worth a quiet word with head of pastoral care to explain how your dd is feeling at the moment? Because my dd is considered 'quiet and mature' it always seems a shock to staff when I have raised issues that I didn't feel could ignore any longer or leave her to work through herself.
  5. Posted this on performance thread too. 2 for 1 offer for tickets at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds next week. Code OFFER241. Very small theatre and not many tickets sold yet.
  6. Only special offer I've seen is 50% off with National Art Pass. NAP are expensive in themselves but a couple of times we have had them free from a Telegraph promotion.

    MDS advice

The fees shown are accurate if your child is awarded an MDS. Dance and day uniform is covered as has previously been mentioned. Formal is an added extra. For those on low income you may be able to claim against travel costs. Full fees are comparable to a public school. There are in house trips at weekends but not compulsory and some don't go, not always because of cost but wanting down time after busy week. Trips to watch class and end of year shows are an added extra to budget for as parents.
  9. Whitby has the abbey and a good museum that mine enjoyed at that age. Beach at Sandend, just north of Whitby is good for rock pools and fossil hunting.
  10. Remember this is about you! You can't make everyone else happy you have to think hard about what will make you happy. Whatever you decide you must not think you are letting anyone down. Having to decide what to study post A levels is hard so good luck with your research and decision. Try to get to some university open days and chat to the lecturers for the courses that interest you.
  11. We went to a performance recently and had a group of what can only be described as precocious girls behind us. All through the first act the glares from my neighbour did nothing to halt their dreadful behaviour but at the interval I spoke to one of the adults accompanying them who where for obvious reasons sat as far removed from them as possible about what a disruption they were and as the 2nd row the dancers had to be aware. The adults spread themselves amoung the group for the second half so were slightly better behaved but what amused us was the way they sat still in silence during interval because every single one of them was on a phone.

    Tinnitus

Check out jcq instructions for conducting exams and read through the pages on access arrangements. Unfortunately it isn't up to the exam board but the schools exam officer and the resources available. Good luck with your exams.
  13. I would suggest having a second basic account with emergency money in. Things do happen however careful they are, lost or stolen purse, forgotten pin etc. It gives you peace of mind even if your dc thinks you are worrying unnecessarily!
  14. I have a formal skirt size small, waist approx 24 in, length 22 in. Saw her through all of lower school. Girls blazer size large - hardly worn as had just for year 10. PM if interested.
  15. Pain and sensation of clicking in heel area. Might be other symptoms I'm unaware of. Becomes apparent with increased amount of dancing.
  16. As a current parent have not heard anything about a second hand stall. Can't imagine Dancing Boutique being impressed!
  17. Dd hadn't long had a new character skirt when she started so Dancing Boutique just changed ribbons to correct colour for her. Any brand of shoe is suitable although the teacher will comment if they think it is not suitable. After first year only ordered leotards from school supplier and odd polo shirt. Stocked up on joggers from M&S - cheaper and lasted longer. Tights, shoes etc online. Sixth form you need to get Flamenco shoes from school supplier as they are without the tacks. Enjoy the induction day everyone.
  18. Custom made pointe shoes will involve at least two trips to the shop - one for working out what she needs, second to have shoes fitted when they arrive. From experience then follow up appointments to see what needs tweaking - it is expensive and time consuming.

    Painful foot

I would seek advice of a dance physio, no need for GP referral. Or ask for her to be seen by NHS dance clinic - they have been discussed on here before. The pain and bruising mean there is something going on. If she is going off to dance college in September she will be doing more hours than ever and needs to know she is fully fit as they all tend to push themselves beyond the limit.
  20. That reminded me of an incident a number of years ago. I was at ATM in porch way of our rural bank when I heard banging and my name being called. The two staff members had locked the door at end of business to cash up etc and then couldn't unlock the door to get out and although had called for help it was an hour away. They had to feed the keys out to me through the letterbox and I had to release them.
  21. Why not have a quiet word with your teacher and raise you concerns? Any good teacher will have all their pupils best interest at heart and without breaking any confidences be able to reassure you about this girl. What I wouldn't do is get involved in any class or changing room gossip regarding the matter.
  22. Have you spoken to your GP about your plans to lose weight? Might be that a a check up is in order to see there is nothing going on that would make it more difficult to lose weight - thyroid or hormonal problem.
  23. I think this is a difficult question to answer as you haven't specified what your son is hoping to do and at what age. Is he hoping to try for a diploma or degree course at 16, 18 or older?
