  1. Spooky I have to agree with everything you said about photos and yes Dd always knows best!
  2. We bought ours over the counter, live out of London but registered them. It allows us to see how much on each Oyster before we travel into London and I believe if lost our credit is protected.
  3. I don't think I would go anywhere near any type of pointe show with alcohol. I would have concerns about interactions between the alcohol and the glues or plastics. If you really feel the need I would try it on an old shoe.
  4. The article relates to the one posted by Anneiliesy in July in the thread titled over training. Also an Australian article about injury, social media influences and age.
  5. I used to go in early on a Saturday morning to help dd teacher set up the barres which where stored in the village hall. It was time consuming and difficult, certainly not a one person job and not something you would want little ones to be helping with either as pieces heavy and awkward. Maybe some of the parents could offer to help set up the barres whilst their children warm up at the beginning of class?

    Room 101

Quintis your post made me chuckle too. We used to have a ginger tom who would patiently lie next to mole hills waiting to dispatch them, leaving them neatly by the back door of course. I currently have areas in my garden where we are suffering from subsidence due to mole tunnels and two cats who are not even attempting to earn their keep. Most frustrating when you can see the cat watching the mole hill moving but not even bothering to investigate.
  7. We have the same and have to think about which will be cheaper option especially if dc travelling with their young person railcard.

That's a shame. Can you return it?

Wouldn't it be the body type all in one that has been discussed over last few posts? They are on uniform lists at vocational schools for show time to preserve modesty and also for hygiene under costumes that might be shared between different casts.

Would be interested to hear how you find it as seems to be a new design.
  11. If I answer from an Elmhurst perspective then I'm sure others can give you answers to your pupils questions from other schools. Yes three meals a day all taken in the school bistro, some choices and always a vegetarian option and a salad bar. Snacks proved during school days also in bistro. Dd feels the quality and choice has improved over the years. At weekends although meals taken in bistro the houseparents may organise theme nights and have films and pizza for example. School days are longer to accommodate the hours of dancing and academic study. And they mix between dance and academics during the day. She will study all the regular subjects English, maths, geography, history, science, art. I can't remember exact number of each it works out to be roughly 50/50 split between academics and dance. In the lead up to summer show dance overtakes academic studies. Until year 10 it is shared twin bedrooms, then single bedrooms until sixth form when move into flats with shared bedrooms again. They get to put down who they would like to share with each term but they sometimes get disappointed. They do change rooms every term and have to pack up and bring everything home. Elmhurst have always run an induction day for lower school in the last few weeks of summer term where they meet each other, the teachers, get a proper look around the school, get fitted for uniform. What sensible questions she had for a 10 year old!
  12. I agree with Quest the Bloch one is suitable for the exams. Dd has a very old Bloch one and a newer, stiffer professional tutu that she had for sixth form. Her teacher wanted her to wear the Bloch one for Adv 2 exam even though it is a bit floppy.

Pictures which brand and style does your dd have? My dd has a mix of Bloch child and adult plus a Capezio one and none have a bra shelf. Last year she had to wear a costume that was too large around bust and she was very self conscious as her current body suits seemed too flimsy. It would be nice to be prepared with something more suitable in case she has same problem in future.

Anon if you can check someone else's out you should be able to cancel the order if you feel it isn't suitable. I once managed to return 6 pairs of tights despite the retailers policy as it was obvious they hadn't been opened and I just had a senior moment ordering the wrong size.

Anondancer has a friend got a Capezio body you can look at? My suspicion is they really offer no support at all and are just a modesty and hygiene garment. A lot of the online dance retailers won't accept returns of opened tights or underwear and it would be a shame to be stuck with a useless item.
  16. I think sometimes it isn't always just the width of the shoe that is the problem but the amount of fabric. Dd local teacher changed to stocking Capezio Daisy and there was just too much shoe for her foot, she is narrow and has a shallow foot. As it is a number of years ago I can't remember what we bought instead. I think try holding out till half term and have a trip round the various shops in London trying different makes until find best fit. Edited to add - I notice Grishko come in 6th widths although might need ordering in. Grishko canvas split soles are my dd flattie of choice.
  17. My dd been at vocational school for a number of years now but in the last couple of years with her local teacher the nearest she got to praise was when she announced to the intermediate class that she had the highest mark the school had ever achieved for a vocational exam when she took her IF. Dd got very disheartened as worked hard and never perceived herself as any better than any of her classmates. When I raised the issue of how she was feeling with the teacher she said she never praised her in class as didn't want her older class mates to get jealous and it should be obvious to her and to me she was talented. Luckily associate and scholars teachers plus pianists were a little more forthcoming in making the right noises occasionally, I wasn't looking for heaps of praise but the occasional acknowledgement that she was working hard, taking on corrections etc. We all need a bit of positive feedback occasionally but it is funny how some teachers can't see the benefit. Local teacher was very anti her auditioning for vocational school too expressing the opinion that local training would be enough until 16, she did however make sure there was an article in all local papers when dd got into lower school. For us moving schools wasn't an option due to rural location and distance to next provider but if it is with you maybe you should consider it. Good luck with the auditions.

    3 days in Venice

Will quiz family tomorrow about location as off the tourist route but we went to a traditional mask shop where they were making and painting the masks. Because dc were so interested the owner talked them through history of masks and how they were made. DS bought a mask that year and rather worryingly when we returned over two years later for dd to buy a mask the shop staff remembered us.
  19. My dd a fan of Grishko split sole too. 2 or 3 pairs a year for her as mostly pointe or demi pointe shoes.

Capezio camisole Bratex? Wear moi also have a new underwear range out. Don't have any experience of either but dd has tried Bloch and Capezio as didn't feel uniform leotards gave any support. She didn't find they offered any support at all.
  21. I think it would be a good idea to have a spare pair for the run of performances. And if you are doing more pointe you may find you need a different shoe now as foot may have changed.
  22. The comment about pointe shoes 'won't be long' would have had me running for the hills with a 7 year old! I hope you dd continues to enjoy her ISTD classes. There is no rush if she is talented and has the facility but she will need a passion that pushing too early could kill.
  23. My dd stuff all labelled and 3 years after losing a leotard in school wash it was returned to her in next house - useless as they change uniform every year. The following term a long lost under leotard was returned luckily still useable. Like Nanalily dd she also 'lost' bed linen but that turned up a few months later, someone else had been using it! So not always the child's fault. I used to work in a little coffee shop frequented by pupils from the local public school. I was forever phoning reception to say so & so has left their blazer, coat etc. After one such call a very fraught young man came down in his break to collect his blazer having been in trouble at school for causing us inconvience - he couldn't understand it as hadn't been in for weeks and as now sixth form wore a suit anyway. A couple of hours later an earlier customer( local GP) turned up to retrieve the blazer she had left on the back of the chair whilst she went for her hair appointment. She was wearing the blazer handed onto her son that he had grown out of as in a hurry that morning. She thought it would be OK to leave it on a chair for a few hours rather than take with her as had to pass coffee shop to get back to her car. So she either totally trusted every person in town walking past shop or was laying claim to the outside table for later in day.
  24. They have no grip on the sole so can be hazardous. Certain teachers at Elmhurst will tell the full time students off if they catch them outside the studio in warm up boots.
  25. If you have the luxury of the choice of providers but are generally happy with BT I would phone around some of others and ask what they provide, broadband speed and allowance, call costs and line rental. Once you have the facts phone BT to ask what they can offer you as X company can do this for this cost and Y for this. Pointing out their costs are £x and you will be leaving if they can't give you a better deal. Generally seems to work in our household.
