  1. I would agree with Katymac on the distance and time issue. At the end of a tiring day you want an easy journey home. I would suggest contacting the school you will be studying at and asking if they work with a particular supplier or hold a list. If this draws a blank then Google, for each one that is a possibility put both the school and the accommadation into the journey planner for rush hour on TFL website. Don't forget to think about daily cost of travelling out of your budget. I came across two recently in the centre of London that were dated in that shared bathroom facilities rather than usual student fare of ensuites but more reasonably priced. Travelling in the opposite direction to commuters at rush hours might not be too bad. I can try to find the details again tomorrow if it will help.
  2. Laban run a summer school if she is 16+. Might clash with the CAT one though as is early summer.
  3. Thank you Melody. Links used to be easy on old OS now can't see how to do them!
  4. Article on BBC News website (sorry can't do links) with news that Chauhdry has quit as chair of Dance UK after his comments last week regarding UK training. It seems there are conflicts between his role at Dance UK and Akram Khan.
  5. Do you mean the harder shank? If so yes. Wears normal shank for performances etc.
  6. Mine gets through pointe shoes far to quickly in my opinion!! Can get through a couple of pairs in a heavy week easily. We have a stash at home and the shop we use keeps a supply for her too as she doesn't have an off the shelf pair.
  7. We found the same on Easter Monday in a restaurant we often use. Area did smell post fire - hope that is clearing now.
  8. Imperial college accommadation convienent for ENBS but do be aware of their age policy. A lot of the summer lets via universities in London have age restriction of over 18 only.
  9. It is him that is in the wrong, don't be afraid. Call the 101 police number and explain what is happening. They will want to know - what if next week he starts exposing himself in the park to school girls? All of us on here are behind you - you have the strength to call and speak to the police.
  10. Regattah if you and dd both love the schools she has offers at I feel a Katymac spreadsheet needed!! Things I would consider are funding offers, parental contribution, distance from home and ease to travel to and from for both her and you to watch class etc. Also accommadation, any meals provided, class size, dance styles taught. She is a lucky girl to have a choice. Hope things are going well at the hospital.
  11. There are two Wear Moi companies. The one above that Lin refers too, based in UK, makes uniform for some vocational schools. Then a French company, some styles available from Just Ballet, Planet Dance etc.
  12. Fantastic news. Good luck to those still waiting on results.
  13. Regattah I can only second Jazzpaws message. Will be thinking of you all and hoping your little dd has a full and speedy recovery.
  14. Still working on dd Ipad but she has just informed me that hasn't done latest software update and is reluctant to do so having read above post.
  15. As positive as these comments are does this lad mind being discussed, by name, on the forum?
  16. Will get dd to check but won't be until this evening - will report back.
  17. Hebrew does your mother write herself little reminder notes? A lot of dementia suffers I have worked with do. Even when their dementia seems advanced you often find scraps of paper with notes such as 'hairdresser 2 o'clock after lunch on Wednesday today is Saturday'. Why not send her a postcard with the appointment day and time on and tell her to put it on her fridge or cupboard where she stores her teacups for example. Do the same with the performance day. A lot do find it helps them keep some independence and control in their lives.
  18. After a very dull morning with no hope of seeing the eclipse the sun is now shining, the verges and ditches are awash with primroses (never seen so many) and the lambs are leaping around. Seems like spring is here.
  19. Invisiblecircus is right a large number moved from WL to US last year. Didn't we have a thread about how well they had done at the time? The numbers change year by year as they do at every school. This period of time is very hard on both the dc and their parents. They will be feeling very raw at the moment. It is hard for the dc at vocational schools getting their results as they are told in person, without their parents being around, they will know before they go into the office who has a place and who doesn't, unless they are first. They will have heard the tears and upset of others and know they have to keep it together enough to call home and pass news onto parents. Those with places will be alert to how those without places at US are feeling and it will taint their initial excitement. However all will pick them selves up and get on with their GCSE and further auditiions and then look forward to their final show and graduation ceremony. Best wishes to any parents and their dc trying for places at upper schools this year. In our house we can't believe it is a year since we went through this stress.
  20. I still can't do links from the recent IOS update but have copied the below from the Alzheimer's society website. Senile dementia 'Senile dementia' is a outdated term that used to be used when it was thought that memory loss and confusion was a normal part of ageing, rather than being caused by specific diseases like Alzheimer's. These days, it is more common to refer to dementia, or early-onset dementia if the person is under 65. To learn more, read our factsheet What is dementia? There is a lot of information on the Alzheimer's society website about the types of dementia, symptoms and the hereditary patterns. Dementia becomes more common with age, btw 65 - 75 around 5% are diagnosed with the condition but by 85 it is nearly 50% - the problem of the ageing population but is not inevitable. I would urge anyone with an interest to investigate 'Dementia Friends'. And Fiz you need to encourage you mother to look after herself - she needs to take breaks. Is there a local support group were she lives? In our small community we have a monthly meeting, with lunch for both sufferers and carers. The various agencies attend and therefore contact is made in an informal way before a crisis arises.
  21. 2/3 of all dementia sufferers die from pneumonia. It is a wicked disease and there is currently a very moving item on the BBC news site about a type of dementia that is genetic. It fearures a young father who carries the gene, he lost his father to the disease and his brother is in the later stages
  22. Personally I would try machine washing them and when nearly dry get your dd to wear them. I always wash split sole canvas shoes when dirty and they always dry smaller than they were originally. For very quick delivery my shops of choice would be Just Ballet or Dancique if you can't get somewhere for a proper fitting. Good luck at Tring.
  23. Why not ask if your dd can sit in and watch the class before the Easter break? Give her some idea of what she might expect If she joins the ckass.
  24. Why? What reason are they giving? Have they only just decided this is unsuitable for dd?
  25. I would be relieved Loulabelle if I was you! My dd always enjoyed art and spent alot of her free time relaxing creating something. She got so bogged down in her GCSE art it killed her passion - she hasn't picked up a pencil, brush or sketch book since the exams last summer.
