  1. If she doesn't pick up before Christmas ask GP if she can be tested for glandular fever. Won't change recovery period but does help if you know what you are dealing with.
  2. Yes have a wonderful time and report back please.
  3. New director? Showing any interest in some European schools and I have found I am on their mailing list. Invited to showcases, end of year shows, apply to summer schools etc. If RBS doing same might make finding out info about their master classes and wotkshops easier.
  4. I've never heard of it either but is it worth contacting your local community police officer or neighbourhood watch coordinator and asking if they know anything about it? Recently my mother was contacted by a company wanting to test her wiring - I only knew because I was in her house at the time phone call came and I could hear her making an appointment for someone to visit. She was convinced it was genuine as had only had a new meter a few weeks before. I made her cancel the appointment, contacted the police who advised I also contact trading standards. Both parties investigated and it was genuine coming back to me with contact details etc. Neither agency made me feel I was wasting their time.
  5. Wishing her a speedy recovery from the chest infection. She has had a lot to deal with in a very short time. Next term will be easier for you both.
  6. RAD used to arrange accommodation for their London summer schools at Imperial College student digs. Think they also run courses around the country during the summer for differing ages.
  7. "Also how selective is it? Does my non-voc DD have any chance of a place? " It is a mix of vocational and non vocational. Some of the Elm pupils do it plus pupils from other schools but then my dd met others who didn't have aspirations of a dance career just enjoyed dancing.
  8. Is there a pastoral team at her college who can just give her a bit of support? She really isn't the only one who is finding it hard but it is easy to look around and think everyone else is finding it a breeze. Also from one who has had a dd at vocational school for a number of years do remember that as parents we are their sounding block - we hear about the awful day, how hard everything is and their friends, teachers see a happy, confident child! For myself I have had to learn when to ask a member of staff to maybe just keep an eye on dd because her tone of voice indicates she is struggling. And for her knowing I have pointed out to staff is enough for her to feel she can approach them and have a chat. The majority of those that have just started sixth form will be tired, needing some space away from their peers and there are so many viruses doing the rounds, all adding to their feelings of finding it hard to cope. The fact she doesn't want to come home is a good sign but exhausting for you as you try to give the emotional support she needs when you are probably feeling fragile. Is it practical to visit her at weekends? A walk and coffee away from it all does help. I send my university dc shoe boxes full of practicalities and treats when sounding fed up or work load extra heavy. Chocolates, Magazine, pasta sauces etc. if you keep it below 2 kg it only costs £2.30 to post at the moment. Not long to Christmas break, feed her up, let her rest and I bet she will be too keen in your eyes to get back in January.
  9. "Thanks everyone. The letter says lilac Leo which can be got from that shop but they don't stock it :/ will call them today." If you have looked on the Dancing Boutique website they don't list any of the schools uniform. You have to get it by visiting, phone or when they visit the school.
  10. Might have changed, number of years since we were in that situation. Hopefully someone with more recent experience can confirm if it was similar. Did spend the day discovering Birmingham City centre.
  11. Number of years since by dd did lower school final audition for Elmhurst but will tell you what I remember. Only one parent was allowed to accompany due to space and it was an all day event but this was in Mr Kelly's day. For parents a proper tour of school and talk then sent on way to collect dc later in day. For dc day included tour of school and boarding houses. Ballet class and physio assessment. No pointe for lower school and upper school was told it was very basic. There were basic English and maths tests but told these wouldn't be taken into account when offering places. Had to provide a packed lunch and ate with current students. Some hanging around whilst waiting for turn with physio. Seem to think started around 9 am and finished 4 ish. Good luck. Tell dd to just to enjoy the experience.
  12. I was in Victoria this week. The whole rail station area is being redeveloped and the area was confined so was busy even at lunch time. It was one of those situations were you could see where you needed to be but couldn't easily cross the road to get there. Have to say didn't head out of station towards the 170 bus stop so no idea what that way is like. Good luck for the exam.
  13. My two told the same as Taxi dd. In fact it was a ballet teacher who taught my ds how to control his hyper mobile knees and ankles. He had been seeing a physio from a young age as joints so unstable he couldn't manage stairs etc. Physio was impressed with the stability he gained through ballet lessons with a good teacher. Still hyper mobile but now controlled, pain free and apart from orthotics splint free too. I would say you need to ask teacher to look at your lines and help you to find the correct position.
  14. I can't do links at the moment but earlier today came across a website/app called walkit.com. Like Google maps etc but does give detailed instructions of walking route, landmarks passed etc. Might give it a go tomorrow depending on weather in London, have an easy journey from Kings Cross to Victoria but may walk.
  15. I had the same problem with IO8 on another thread - very annoying.

A local woodland hangs bars of soap from the branches of trees to deter the deer!
  17. Like others I would suggest looking at the courses that are funded by student finance. There are a number, Central, Rambert, Ballet West, (?) BTUK and Conservatoire of Scotland come to mind but no doubt there are others. I assume, but no doubt someone in the know will put me right, that along side the fee element the student gets the maintance element to support living costs.
  18. Southerndancemum, depending on your dd age I notice that there are children workshops associated with the Spring tour of ENB My First Ballet: Swan Lake. Along with learning some dance there is also the opportunity to look at the costumes and scenery. Sorry with the update on our computer I can't see how to post links.
  19. There will be a number of groups each date for prelims so don't assume your dc will be at the same time as Dr.f dc. If you have not heard by Monday call or email them as admin staff work during school holidays.

We had to threaten small claims court when dc was owed wages for some casual work he did. Repeated asking and setting deadlines for payment were ignored. In the end told them that if money wasn't in account within a certain number of days the paperwork would be submitted to the court. Payment was received within 24 hours!! Good luck with sorting it out Taxi.
  21. I would say go for it if you and dd can handle the stress again! You have no idea why they said no last time and over this year she may have developed and matured in her dancing, confidence etc. BTUK are not part of the DaDA scheme. They were hoping to have student finance in place for this years students but it didn't go to plan. I would assume they would have student finance available for the next academic year as will have sorted the issues that put pay to it for this year.
  22. I would try emailing them and enquiring about the programme for next year as have noticed it always seems to be on the drag when announcing performances on the website. If you are lucky you might manage to get a groundling ticket on the day but to be safe I would always book in advance.
  23. Are you expecting a bit too much of yourself? Maybe need to relax and enjoy the class and expect that you will make mistakes at this stage. The more you concentrate on your lack of focus the harder it will be to execute the steps, I'm sure at times it happens to everyone at some stage.
  24. Arnica might help with the discomfort but I would suggest getting it checked by a podiatrist as you may have damaged the nail bed and they can advise best way to care for it. It will be a case of letting nature take its course though and waiting for the nail to grow out or fall off. Also get your pointe shoes checked. The trauma normally occurs because the toe is banging against the end of the shoe.
