  1. Dd didn't like the Draam pointes! Only lasted a couple of classes.
  2. Sheila, I wonder how much Russian pointe vary from Grishko?
  3. Is it they don't allow their pupils to audition for associate schemes? I know of a number of students who have moved from Tring to WL and Elmhurst over the years so they must have been in the audition process.
  4. Boxes at Albert Hall to see ENB in round give a good view. Boxes at ROH give poor view of stage, you can't see some areas at all. Our local theatre has boxes all around the circle so view varies from good to poor, seats however are a risk to life and limb. You have to lift up the seat part to climb in, very heavy and a risk to fingers plus not good if you need to get out in a hurry.
  5. Jazzpaws advice about seeing if your dd can move to a host family sounds like it might be worth investigating for the summer term, you are probably commited to boarding this term now. School must keep a list, if I was in your shoes I would start putting out feelers. Ironic how the DaDA maintance comes through after the bill!! We had a similar issue with uni accommodation fees, they expect whole terms rent week before maintance grant paid. As a concession to UK students they can pay a deposit of £1000 until money through - assumes parents just have a spare bit of money floating around ???? Did your dd enjoy her first term at Tring?
  6. As it is not in London they only have had one session for US previously so I expect they do the older associates on the same day rather than have staff twiddling thumbs. There will be far more auditioning for entry lower into the school so can easily fill a day with them. RBS seem to look at everyone with a view to a school place regardless of what you ticked on form. She won't be in an audition with students trying for US but may be in a smaller group than if auditioned in London.
  7. Danskin seemed to disappear for a few years and since they came back to the UK market dd not convinced by them anymore. She had old Danskin tights that lasted 3 or 4 years of school laundry eventually going in bin because of lack of colour. Lin isn't the idea with convertible rights that the dancer can get to her toes easily to tape etc when swapping to pointe shoes? My dd puts black leggings on top of tights for contemporary classes.
  8. My dd uses Wear Moi as choice but like Pictures we go up a size.

    Room 101

My hubby would want to put our cat in too Porthesia!! Demanding food, loudly and constantly all day whilst I'm at work. I came home and he settled down in his bed without a morsel. Does this everytime hubby at home alone with him and cat normally wins hence he feels has the human well trained to meet his demands. Recent vet lecture scared husband into trying to be stronger but cat has learnt if ignored sit in front of Tv or computer screen and shout. If that doesn't work pounce - he only weighs 8kg so no risk to life or limb!! Putting him outside when he is in one of these moods means he goes on a murderous rampage and deposits every rat, mouse or weasel on back doorstep.
  10. I can understand a new AD taking up the post and wanting to make changes to improve the school, but what I fail to understand is why Mr Powney is being so negative, in public, about his students. However he feels or interpretes their motivation surely it is something he should deal with discretely in house. His teachers, students and their parents must feel very deflated by his comments. If I had a child under his tuition I would find it hard to respect him knowing he felt that way about his students. We have witnessed many changes at Elmhurst over the last couple of years with the new AD and as a parent it is all for the good. I'm sure when he started he could see many aspects that needed improvement but he didn't make them public. My dd feels that he has had a positive impact on standards because he gives useful feedback. He may want the students to work on something specific but there is a way of getting the message across so they feel they can achieve it without crushing their confidence. My dd also feels that with the new AD the teachers know exactly what he wants of them. I'm sure when term starts Mr Powney may well regret being so vocal.
  11. Nana Lily mine doesnt know either just that it was from Carmen.
  12. I googled 'Joffrey New York or Chicago' last year after dd meet a girl from Joffrey NY. From what I remember they are linked somehow.
  13. Oh Spacey your poor dd and her dad, how disappointing to miss the class due to transport problems. Hope they managed to spend some time doing something enjoyable in London.
  14. I wouldn't worry about the standard of the others as Chaperone said. The purpose of the day is to give you an insight into what to expect if you audition for ENBS. Gives you chance to see the studios, have a class, meet some of staff and current student plus ask any questions. Just enjoy the day.
  15. Isn't Sugarplums problem that although her dd DaDA covers her school fees she is only entitled to £4550 maintenance per year plus her bursary. I've no idea how much the boarding fees, uniform and other costs are at Tring but hazard a guess you can probably at least triple that amount if not more. Do contact Tring and see if they can offer any other help. Wishing you all the best Sugarplum and everyone else struggling through this funding nightmare.
  16. It is covered by MDS but not DaDA for sixth formers. You need to pay the excess even if BUPA covered by MDS.
  17. What we didn't take into account going into lower school was the number of visits we would have to do to school for shows, consultations, watching classes. A surprising number of these have required a overnight stay in a hotel, a cost we hadn't budgeted for. Tickets and donations for various events do add up especially with shows if there are differents casts and you would like to see your child in each cast. Theatre trips, doctors trips and outings all get added to next terms invoice and are an added cost. I know these were not the costs Tulip was thinking about but over the years they have added up for us and will continue through sixth form.
  18. I stand corrected - I thought if you hadn't had any government funding for a degree level course in the past and meet the residency criteria you were entitled to apply for student finance.
  19. 2dancersmum if your dds friend had been self funded for her level 6 Trinity she hadn't used any of her 4 years worth of student funding, hence she got student finance for the degree.
  20. Burgundy now sold. Black still available.
  21. No he isn't being a normal bloke - would you feel comfortable hearing your son, brother or father behaved like this? You do need to report this. How will you feel if you hear he has escalated his behaviour and is caught having physically exposed himself to someone in the street? You should feel comfortable and safe in your own home. You are obviously distressed by this so need to contact the police.
  22. Surely this needs reporting to the police. What if kids in neighbouring houses are witnessing this behaviour?
  23. I have sent you a PM Twoballerinas
  24. Two pairs of Bloch synergy S0100 size 4Y boxed and brand new. £15 per pair plus p&p. DD used to use these as her shoe of choice but as she got through them so quickly we kept a stock ready for darning etc. She swapped to Grishko but found two pairs of Bloch hiding in her bedroom recently!
  25. I have two Degas leotards for sale, style 9502 both child size 14. One burgundy, fully front lined other black with no lining. In good condition as only worn for occasional classes/workshops etc. £15 each plus p&p.
