  1. Depending on your location Aileen the Harwich to Hook of Holland over night ferry is very easy and comfortable. Only slight wobble when leaves port. Train tickets included from London to Harwich and then through to any Dutch station. We just then buy cheap ticket through to Antwerp, arriving in time for early coffee.
  2. Musee de L'Orangerie next to the Tulerie Gardens. It houses Monet's Water Lilies plus more and has never been busy when we have visited. Bit out of the way but going to the top of Montpanesse Tower gives a fantastic view of Paris. Sainte - Chapelle is interesting and doesn't take long to visit. The crypt under Notre Dame is quiet compared to how busy it is up above. It has archaeological ruins from the earliest settlements of Paris. Whatever you do on the day I hope you have a great time.
  3. The following might be of interest to those audition this year or next. http://www.danceeast.co.uk/whats-on/789/DANCE-AUDITION-PREPARATION-WORKSHOP/
  4. Art is so much work. My dd spent more time on this than any of her other subjects and found it draining. It also killed her passion for creativity - I'm hoping it will come back soon as it was one way she found to relax. As Aileen mentioned try to pin down the school for dates of controlled assessments so you can plan initial auditions around them. Mine missed an English one due to illness and then had to miss teaching time close to the exams to do it.

    Intake age

Anneeliz We know of dc that have got into year 11 (those that turn 16) that have come from abroad and therefore not joining the academic classes with the rest of the year. Think very few from UK would consider auditioning for that year as it is half way through their exam courses and within months of starting would be back on the audition round trying to gain a sixth form place.
  6. Or ask the school lunchtime teacher if she can recommend someone? She may well teach graded classes somewhere in your locality herself.
  7. In my experience homesickness waxes and wanes. Mine was complaining yesterday she was feeling homesick and requested a visit this weekend and she is not new to boarding but is to sixth form. She was very tired though after the theatre trip - they had an exceptionally long day on only the second full timetabled day. DD knows she always finds everything harder when she is tired and I expect yours will be too. Sophia if your dd continues to suffer do encourage her to speak to one of the pastoral or medical team, they won't be able to offer support if your daughter appears on the surface to be coping and they don't know how she is feeling. My dd always gravitates towards the nurse that covers the evenings at the school medical centre when she is needing a bit of TLC. If your dd doesn't feel she can then do contact them yourself so they know to keep an extra eye on her.
  8. I thought she was a fantastic early morning wake up tonic but had to wonder what they cut from the final piece that was broadcast.
  9. My dd broke the dream pointe shank too, she did say they didn't feel as supportive as the 2007 or pro and she felt she sunk into the shoe even though they were supposed to be the same fit. She only wore them as one of two pairs during a week of summer school! I had thought she would be taking them back to school but not to be. She has decided to stick with her usual Grishko. Will be interesting to hear how your dd does with them taxi.
  10. Louise would you not have more joy contacting British Gymnastics and asking about clubs locally? Or does your local sports centre know of suitable classes?

    Red Leotard?

If she wears any costumes she may well need the nude leotard as underwear. They have been invaluable at show time for both hygiene and modesty. Do Degas do a proper red leotard?
  12. Train and taxi, lots come from overseas so are very limited and have to purchase the essentials when they arrive. If they are limited by what needs to be carried or size of car they are more selective about what they need. There is a company that will courier boxes from home to uni whose name escapes me.
  13. Oh that makes it difficult then! Notice on website it said application pack available from October. Have found a copy of the sheet with diagrams on from last year but don't know if it will be the same and not sure I am confident enough without dd here to say what the positions are! All photos had to be 10cm x 13cm and does add that girls also need to include en pointe in 2nd position and en pointe in 4th position croise alignment. Seem to remember we may have used same photographs for both Royal and ENBS.
  14. It was on the application form last year. They are friendly, email and ask them?
  15. When you have to collect it at the end of term or year there will be a lot more tun they went with! Their possessions seem to breed and I still can't get mine to pack in an ordered manner when packing at school - going always very organised, coming home think it is just thrown into cases as and when finished with. I suppose they are trying to pack everything whilst still needing it so have an excuse.
  16. Lots of parents seem to sit around the reception area. Cannon Hill park, the Nature Centre and Midlands Art Centre are within minutes walking distance if you need a break.
  17. Was there today! Is well worth a visit but is in the middle of a restoration project due to finish next Spring I believe. All the curators are passionate about the museum and the collections. Across Lincoln Inn the medical museum is also worth a visit.
  18. That is interesting Katymac because ds did apply normally for uni this time and of the hundreds of bits of paper he has had from UCAS not one mention of men c booster. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
  19. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinations/Pages/men-c-vaccine.aspx Julie Not time to read this properly as about to go to work but does look like new uni starters should be having a booster. I need ds to speak to our GP too as this thread first I have heard about it!
  20. RAD are advertising their open days, 30 October and 20 November for those interested in studying the degree course. Booking essential.
  21. Yesterday at the showing of work at the end of the Opes summer school I was sat next to a parent who spent ages texting until her child appeared to dance when her phone was instantly put to use to start filming. The light was blinding and she obscured my view of my child. The offender was apologetic and did stop when I asked. On the front row was a family of three, mum and teenage daughter spent most of the show filming whilst 10/11 year old boy played games on his iPad. If I could have reached them without disturbing others I would have spoken to them too. Don't those using mobile devices realise the light disturbance they are causing to the rest of the audience and according to my dd to the dancers too. Watching the limited amount you can see through your phone whilst filming also means they are missing most of the dancing and the atmosphere. There were a number of very young children watching the performance yesterday who behaved beautifully and were a joy to be sat near to hear their whispered comments including 'she's got no shoes on' during the contemporary to the arm waving and enthusiastic clapping. So why a much older child had to be entertained during an hour long performance with games on his iPad is beyond me.
  22. Last year ROH had various apprentiships on their website - everything from weapon handler to box office/admin. Good luck for results day.
  23. Such a shame she won't be at there when they host Genee. We witnessed all her hard work and determination when she pushed DanceEast forward to become what they are today.
  24. Hope blip was quickly resolved and you both got some restful sleep. Hoping for a speedy recovery and that you are both soon home.
