  1. There were definitely places awarded from the waitlist last year because my ds and others went elsewhere. Well done and good luck! Fingers crossed for everyone.
  2. Oh that’s interesting, they never used to have an ‘ordered’ list, they’ve always said it was a reserve ‘pool’ because they looked at the overall picture of who had accepted or gone elsewhere, and where there might be spaces in boarding etc. It wasn’t as simple as who was next on the list.
  3. Not really the point of the thread but Birmingham isn’t really the north. My dc have gone to vocational schools at 11 because there just wasn’t the amount of local training at the right standard here, for them to be able to ‘compete’ for upper school places at 16, not without spending between six and eight hours in a car both days every weekend! No mid associates for Elmhurst near us, only Royal MAs with very few places. Some areas of the country are much better served by dance organisations than others.
  4. I’m not sure, it’s odd. There’s no confidentiality clause attached to an mds award. There might be for school bursaries though which is different.
  5. I’ve heard nothing about this, but that’s likely to be my dd thinking that it’s not an interesting thing to mention, if she’s actually aware of it at all!
  6. Hypermobility doesn’t equal flexibility. My ds is very hyperflexible but has never been able to get centre splits flat. His hamstrings can get very tight too, unless he keeps working at it. Dd is similarly hyperflexible but has to work at all her splits. Neither had all splits when they got their mds awards.
  7. Yorkshire Ballet Seminars. They’re not taking applications this year because everyone has had their places rolled over from last summer, but in ‘normal’ years it’s one to definitely consider.
  8. In buildings leased from the university on Liverpool Road.
  9. There are some y12 girls in the lower school girls accommodation block.
  10. There will be lots of movement yet, some of you will get nice surprise phone calls/emails in the next few weeks when other schools make their offers and all the shuffling of waiting lists is done.
  11. Hammond don’t work it like this at the funding. Everyone is on the funding list and everyone is ranked in order, with the top however many being offered the mds and then they work down the list as people turn them down when they take other offers etc. People further down the list are offered mds every year so don’t give up hope yet.
  12. The students are wearing masks so it shouldn’t be an issue. Good luck, the current y8 are an amazing group of kids 😊
  13. They are really distracting because once you’ve noticed, you can’t help but see them all the time!! I always think her feet would maybe look better if she had better fitting shoes on! However, it doesn’t seem to have held her back 🤣
  14. Osipova was the one that came to my mind too. And her pointe shoes always look awful.
  15. The closest is the Travelodge which is about three minutes away from the school. The Premier Inn (Chester Central South) is nicer though and not too far.
  16. Yes, this is our experience - except I’ve never asked for permission, we’ve just got on with it.
  17. Going from gcses to L6 diploma/BA degree is the usual route for vocational dance students. There are more options for MT.
  18. Hammond always take their time with communication so I’m sure there are lots still waiting! Good luck 😊
  19. Depends on why you think your children are there I guess. With both of mine they’ve gone to their schools because it was the right school experience for them, and it’s allowed them to pursue something that they love to a level that wouldn’t have been possible if they’d stayed at home. For us it has never been about turning them into professional dancers, it was a way of keeping that option open to them if that was the career they wished to go for. Don’t lose sight of the fact that it is ‘just school’, not a life or death decision.
  20. I’ve emailed them a couple of times with general enquiries and never had a reply, which is why we’ve never applied there!
  21. My two have always enjoyed the Central courses too.
  22. Is that staying permanently at the old premises or just another temporary delay?
