Thigh muscles - advice how to reshape/reduce
Farawaydancer replied to sillysally's topic in Doing Dance
Are you including the students youâve worked with in the lower school there @Nico Kolokythas? Surely if theyâve been following your programme for a number of years in LS there shouldnât be âcatching upâ to do when they get to upper school? (This year is obviously an exception, everyone will have catch up to do!) -
There might not be bones to be strengthened (sounds odd coming from a physio!) but there are definitely muscles to be strengthened in his feet! If my ds hadnât done a lot of strength training through ballet I imagine his hypermobility would cause him a lot of pain. It certainly does in his hands.

Thigh muscles - advice how to reshape/reduce

Is there little or no evidence because there havenât been any studies conducted on young people/dancers? Or do the studies show that pilates makes no difference in these groups? -
Both of mine have hypermobility syndrome and physios were fine. Just looking at the majority of their classes I would guess itâs not uncommon.

Elmhurst Young Dancer auditions 2020
Farawaydancer replied to Dancingsantosisters's topic in Doing Dance
Yes, they use the studios but they should be able to access them via a different route into the building, change times etc. There doesnât seem to be any plans to stop their RAD classes at the moment, they were still talking about them last week during meetings with students. Iâm sure they will be considering it carefully though, everything else has been very organised. -

Also due to the layout of the building it should be relatively easy to keep the associates and full time students separate. They can use different entrances etc. -
Elmhurst Young Dancer auditions 2020
Farawaydancer replied to Dancingsantosisters's topic in Doing Dance
I think Elmhurst will likely hold their young dancer auditions at the beginning of the autumn term and start lessons a couple of weeks later. They did this one year at our centre because the auditions planned for May/June had to be cancelled. -
Teachers asked if they were applying, but didnât recommend. We treated it very much as a fun thing to do, give it a go and see what happens. Carried on planning for local schools etc. As for core strength, lots of 10 year olds havenât got this yet - my 16 yr old has only really got this sorted in the last 18 months or so, and itâs an ongoing battle!

The difficulty is that it seems a complete mystery as to what the schools are looking for. Both my dc did lower school auditions and weâre successful, and my oldest has now done upper school ones too, and having seen who gets chosen for each school Iâm no clearer what any of them are looking for! Neither of them were JAs, but did do other associate programmes, neither had private lessons, nor did any of their close friends. As a previous poster says, theyâre looking for potential, not what they can do.

Yes, associates and holiday programmes. However Emma also runs vocational level training in a Central London called Academy of Balletic Arts, which is obviously associated with them.

Ballet Boost is run by a fabulous lady called Emma Northmore. Have a look at their website. (No association with her other than being a very happy parent for many years now, to two of her students!)

I think you probably need to formally decline the place, even though youâve already said you would need an mds.

I think lots of the available fee remissions will also go to the theatre arts applicants because they donât have access to any mds.

The guidance for boarding schools treats them as a âhouseholdâ for these purposes. I have seen some updated advice for them somewhere but Iâve looked at that many pages of education advice in the past couple of weeks Iâve no idea where I saw it!! đ¤Śđźââď¸

Sent you a DM

I think some of the non-residential ones are clinging on to the hope that they might be able to run. Itâs cutting it fine though since the studios donât look like theyâll be allowed to open for a few more weeks yet at the earliest.

I think the audition process and therefore the acceptance of places etc is very drawn out this year, due to the need for video submissions etc. Weâve not been told anything about September as yet, I think theyâre waiting on more guidance.

Do you still have the first gaynor minden on the list?

Communication with current parents isnât much better at the moment, just so you donât think itâs newbies that are having trouble. We canât get replies to emails either.
