  1. Oh I heard rumours this was on the way! It’ll be interesting to see what comes from it.
  2. It’s made clear though that the PDS work is not the entirety of the diploma, it’s just one part of it. The dancing itself forms most of the actual ‘work’ for the diploma. I think companies want to know that you’ve finished formal (compulsory?) education, and would expect something to show for that from a dance school.
  3. Some of the adverts for auditions mention that they want dancers who’ve completed diploma level education, so I think some companies use it as a screening.
  4. Performance Platform is relatively new but everyone who’s done it says it’s really friendly and supportive @Emma northmore will be able to tell you more.
  5. RAD results are very random at times. DD has scores from 65 to 86, DS got 89 for adv1 but ‘only’ 78 for adv2. It’s just a snapshot of that day and that examiner. It will make no difference when applying for schools etc.
  6. At Hammond the mds uniform allowance is for dancewear and shoes only, I think we had around £500 this year. My dc has four leotards, numerous pairs of tights, four tops and four jogging bottoms. Order the ‘day’ uniform sooner rather than later because it takes a long time to arrive (or at least that’s been our experience!)
  7. They come up small. Dd is a size bigger in yumiko than in most other dancewear, and if you get sleeves put in they’re even smaller.
  8. My dc and I have good, close relationships, and probably all the better for not having to do the ‘nagging’ about homework and tidying bedrooms every day. They also have a good relationship with each other. It won’t work for every family but it’s been good for us.
  9. Yes, we didn’t choose the school based on academics and therefore were quite happy to just compare with our local ones, and it compared more than favourably. If we were choosing an academically selective fee-paying school we would have been looking for different things.
  10. We’ve found the academics to be of a good standard, with some exceptional teaching. A class of up to 30 didn’t bother us, as that’s what we’d had in primary and it’s what we would have had at the local comp.
  11. There’s ballet boost associates in either Hull or Manchester? They’re on a Sunday.
  12. My dc didn’t do this Easter course but have done many other BB intensives and have always loved them and learned lots, found them more valuable than ybss or mbs.
  13. I agree the school in general is great, would thoroughly recommend and my dc is extremely happy there. Individual staff can be very communicative but trying to get an email answer to even very simple questions can be difficult.
  14. I have a child there and I’d agree, communication is woeful at times.
  15. All of this. If they have confidence in their own ability to cope with the everyday stuff it makes boarding life so much easier to deal with.
  16. The actual MDS forms don’t get sent out until much later in the summer term, they have to wait for the DfE to get themselves organised!
  17. Fewer ‘home’ clothes than you imagine, more fairy lights than you think.
  18. Year 8 are 12, turning 13. DS in 6:3 has just taken his Adv2 after a couple of years of delays due to covid and other issues. He was beginning to think he would never get it done! His sister is 15 and just taken Adv1.
  19. My dc’s lower school class at Elmhurst a few years ago went to: Elmhurst, Royal, ENBS, Hamburg and Rambert. A couple also chose not to continue with vocational training.
  20. My ds has been there for 8 years and didn’t have homework all through lower school.
  21. There is always movement, right through the summer, so it’s definitely possible.
  22. It’s permanently difficult on the communication front. It’s my main frustration with the school, and parents tell them over and over that it’s an issue but they seem unable to fix it. However, dd is extremely happy there, as are the vast majority of her classmates, so it’s just an annoyance we put up with.
  23. If she’s eligible for mds then she’ll be considered for one bit it’s odd that the recall audition isn’t mentioned. I’d phone up and speak to them, getting a reply to emails is such a rare event it feels like a lottery win!
