  1. No, for the classes your child can wear whatever leotard, belt or skirt she likes. Although for the perf to show parents, they may ask children to wear a particular colour like navy or black. Please encourage your child to adhere to this; there was a group of girls who decided to ignore this last year because they thought they could stand out in another colour 😱😱😱
  2. You can wear whatever you like for the rehearsals but they do ask that the hair is in a proper bun. They provide you with a list of kit and make up for the performances, all in good time for you to get everything (and to sew ribbons on pink satin shoes!) If in doubt, just ask, they're ever so helpful x Ps. Congrats to your DDs for getting in
  3. Bun heads ouch pouches are a good shout. Best of luck tomorrow. Take lots of pics; it's such a magical time for them xx
  4. You don't need to buy ribbon from the shop as there is plenty available online for cheaper. Also thread, you can get gutermann thread for a fraction of the price and the right colour too. It's tempting to get everything in one place but do check online. Porselli are very competitive price wise and their service is tip top. Toe pads are a must but again, don't be afraid to buy online
  5. No knowledge to impart but is it normal to pay to be a trainee? In my profession, this is a big no no and an alarm bell but I have no idea about dance...
  6. Hey, please give your dd a hug from me. The last few years have been rubbish all round and she's done amazing to be put forward for two exams which she wouldn't have been if her teacher didn't think she was ready. Exams are a real pain, more so for the parents and often don't reflect what a child is capable of. My second child had a similar situation with her piano exam after the various lockdowns... It was gut wrenching to hear her restart every piece several times and fumble to the end. She scraped through and built herself this fear of exams... We worked tog recently on building her confidence and she took another exam on Saturday. Even though she made a few mistakes, she got through and I'm happy to report I've learnt today she got a merit. I'm sure your dd will be fine. Resilience takes time to build and the examiner clearly identified she knew her stuff. Fingers crossed for the results and again, big hugs x
  7. Not done any vid submissions but the EYB are fantastic, really well organized. Hope you get good news soon, it's a wonderful programme that allows children the experience of dancing with professionals on stage and performing in the theatre.
  8. Some Blochs are nice but you'll need to check whether they have lining. I really like wear moi and grishko.
  9. X narrowest. Xxx the widest altho I have seen a xxxx? The pointe shoes are true to size. Canvas soft shoes are small, leather and satins are true to size. Hope that helps
  10. Too late to apply for YBSS- their appls closed on 10.3. Moorlands, Malvern, Elmhurst, Central, Tring, Hammond... Lcb do a summer sch as do the enb, depending on age. Also, don't rule out the rad ones
  11. You can decline. They give you some time to decide whether or not to accept. As someone else has said above, you don't have to say yes and there will always be someone else who will be delighted to receive an offer of a space x
  12. Sometimes it is just a 'not yet' but sometimes it is a 'no, never'. There are other schemes and residentials that are equally excellent but do not have the RBS name/prestige. My advice for what it's worth is don't lose sight and don't dismiss others. Well done to everyone with a yes, commiserations to the nos and fingers crossed for those on WL xx
  13. Yes we know of someone too but of course, the restrictions on travel limited the number of Intl students who could attend. I suspect less spaces for domestic students this year
  14. Good luck. There are a few mock exams on YouTube that are quite helpful for the music if nothing else. Well done for achieving so much in such a short space of time
  15. Someone said to me I was best clearing out all the junk in the spare room instead. Still haven't got round to it so I have a portable ballet barre in the middle of my living room which is occasionally used to hang up coats and school bags 🤣
  16. I looked at doing this; a loft conversion but then got a quote & baulked at the price!
  17. Flat rate for us depending on number of classes taken but capped on 3+ classes. Includes all extra rehearsals, costume hire and finale t shirt for them to keep. Tickets for the show charged separately. Dd old dance school charged for everything. Prod fees, rehearsal fees, t shirt, costume hire per costume. Tickets. Got to a stage where we felt if we sneezed, we'd get charged 🤣
  18. When you apply, a confirmation page comes up. Followed later by an email thanking you for your application and that you'll hear back after the closing date. Good luck!
  19. Sad I didn't win anything but delighted for those who did. Really lovely for you to do this. Many happy returns for 23.12!
  20. Some super duper positive comments on this thread. It is a tough profession to get into for sure and the training is relentless. Ballet and dance provides a real quality of resilience and discipline very few other 'hobbies' can boast of. For us, we realize 'not yet' is just a no and dd dances for the joy of it and I'm so proud that she does. It's a shame it's so financially crippling with costumes, fees, shoes etc. but as long she enjoys it, I'll do what I can to support. Good luck to everyone's new adventures. It's definitely worth it, our experiences make us who we are, however sad and difficult that might have been. Onwards and upwards xx
  21. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Auditions that took place on 28.11 for Yr 8/9 WL came out today
  22. My DD did this a few years back. They teach a couple of dances from the nutcracker, adapted of course, and the children show what they've learnt to the parents after. Not sure what arrangements in place due to covid tho. Hope she has a lovely time
