  1. Flowerpot, I feel your pain. DD2 got SWL last year too and in a moment of madness I enquired as to the timings of the Saturday classes in Eastleigh, in case it was worth being added to the waitlist for that centre too. In the end I realised it was logistically impossible, as DD1 already attends a different Associates Scheme in London every Saturday, but I did feel it was a bit unfair and so I could feel better, convinced myself that a place wouldn't come up at Eastleigh anyway and if it did, DD2 wouldn't have been the chosen one anyway ????.
  2. I love this forum. So much experience and great to have some varied, balanced views. Hope it's all helpful for the OP. On a slightly tangential point, the costs of your piano lessons, extraordinary though they seem, are completely standard where we live. As a parent of two DDs I often ask myself if their half an hour of music a week respectively, with barely any time for practise in between each week, can really be justified. Then I think ahead to their future and the breadth of opportunity that having some knowledge of music alongside dance might offer, and we persevere! Good luck; it looks like you've found a good starting point ????
  3. Amos73 and Aklf what lovely, heartening posts! Really nice to hear about hard work paying off ????
  4. Won't they wait until all the auditions are finished on Sunday before any results come out? I know it's different for Associates as they have a number of places for each centre, but for WL I guess they want to see all dancers from all auditions before deciding who the lucky ones will be that are invited to Finals?
  5. As well as being assessed out perhaps some MAs are successful in auditions for vocational school after Year 7 and thus give up their MA spots?
  6. Allnewtome so disappointing but lots of other schools and they all look for slightly different things (or so I'm led to believe, don't have first hand experience other than Associate schemes).
  7. The audition experience in itself is lovely and worth doing. Obviously I would have thought better to do with the support of the teacher and its great that she will help with photos, hair, choice of leotard etc. Not sure why extra coaching would be needed. So many successes for Year 4 entry in particular have been for dancers with very little experience but who show enormous potential to benefit from the type of training offered by the Royal Ballet School. On the gymnastics front, 6 hours a week may still be sustainable if your dd were to be awarded a place, but I know both of my dds have had to cut back substantially on their gymnastics hours since becoming Associates in other schemes. It's mostly logistics, but also whilst the gymnastics certainly helps with flexibility and core strength, they have had to focus hard on "undoing" some of the impact it has had on their posture and feet (can cause "pro-nation, doesn't sound like this has been a problem for your little one). If your dd loves dancing and would not be overly disappointed with a no or a waitlist place, I would just go for it. It certainly doesn't go against you if you audition more than once so what's to lose? (Imho). Good luck!!
  8. Hello. The audition on Nov 6th was a group class with some work at the barre and some in the centre. Centre work was often in lines of about four dancers with some exercises e.g. sautees done individually. There were some stretches to assess flexibility. The older girls were checked for metatarsal strength at the end in preparation for Pointe work. Hope that gives you a flavour.
  9. It does say on the website FAQs that they don't apply the height and weight criteria for summer school applicants and that auditions for the school are completely separate so it might not be worth ruling out just on that basis? Good luck if you do go for it.
  10. Excellent ????. Think Jan 29th is for Yr 7 entry.
  11. 29th January in London is still happening and I believe details will be emailed quite soon ????
  12. Yes so pleased for your DD. What a dreadful experience she (and you) have had to go through Annaliesey. Thank goodness things have turned round.
  13. Thank you Double Trouble and yours! Good luck to your dd MuddledMama ????
  14. Not sure about the one style thing at Freed. We got DD1's soft blocks there earlier this year and she found a fair amount of variety just from the different makers and they also de-shank pointe shoes if that's a better fit.
  15. Good luck to everyone who has auditioned and to those auditioning on Sunday!
  16. Absolutely, I know it was very disappointing for many (including us) when the date changed was changed but that has opened up opportunities for some too. It was certainly very clear from the communications we received that only those who could commit to rehearsal and performance dates should audition, even though the numbers clearly mean that many that audition will not be successful.
  17. Also, last year we had a holiday booked for a week when LCB rehearsals were scheduled. Our dance teacher was firm that our DDs should not audition just for the experience only, knowing that we couldn't take it any further if successful.
  18. In our case PV, both of our DDs have already qualified for Group dances as well as solos for AE regionals. We absolutely would never presume to get further than the audition for LCB, however if either of them were lucky enough to do so, we would have to turn it down due to pre-existing commitments to our local school and other children. In fact, when the LCB dates were in early May, we had actually turned down the chance to be given new Festival dances as our school had, fairly, said these opportunities would be given to those dancers that could commit to Festivals taking place during dates historically used for LCB rehearsals. So now my dds are missing out on the opportunity to audition for LCB, so they don't let down their friends and school, and also missing out on Festival opportunities. I guess we all have to make the choices that are right at the time. Just because there might be a smaller number of auditionees for LCB does not necessarily mean they will not be talented ????
  19. The performance was originally going to be earlier in May but was recently changed to be over May Half Term (29th - 31st). This means it is likely that people with holidays booked for that week, or who are competing at All England Regionals or have Associates auditions (or have other reasons) will have withdrawn their applications. The dates of the rehearsals have been emailed to applicants but not the times.
  20. Have received updated schedule today and suspect we will have to do the same. Have committed to responding by COP ????
  21. This email came on Thursday morning but I also got a confirmation email straightaway to say our applications had been received.
