  1. Thanks everyone, great advice. Hoping for success when we shop next weekend and then I'll be able to report back on the experience for any others at this stage!
  2. Thanks Pirouette. Dancia and Freed look like the best options. Dancia is easier based on opening times so think it will be our first port of call.
  3. Hi everyone, DD is looking for her first pair of soft blocks and we will need a lot of help from the fitter as we are very much novices in this game. I have read a few other threads but interested in recent experiences of similar fittings in London or nearby. DD is very small and will be looking for shoes in a 1 or a 2 if that makes any difference. She doesn't have great arches and her toes are quite long and feet narrow to medium. As I say, we will really have to rely on the fitter so recommendations would be very welcome. Thank you!
  4. My dd was unsuccessful for Yr 5 last year and is towards the flexible end of the scale (naturally, she would not have been warming up pre-audition as she's too shy and probably too lazy!) so I agree with Balletmummy55 that current flexibility is not by any means the be-all and end-all :-)
  5. Thank you for sharing this aballetlife. I have two short dds and they have found this clip very inspiring :-)
  6. Petalviolet you crack me up :-)
  7. My dh does more of the dance runs than I do due to our working patterns. He also sews elastics into shoes, ribbons onto festival/pointe shoes, shortens straps and is way better at buns than I am. He has even had to do hair and makeup for festivals, though of course has to do it all before leaving home as is not allowed in the changing rooms. He also watches as many times as he has the opportunity. However, the organising/co-ordinating/applications etc. are definitely my job, so I'm the one on the forum! Anyway, off topic I think. Re this thread, we are so lucky. All of the parents we have met at the local dance school are just lovely and supportive and some of them have very talented dcs indeed :-)
  8. Those dancing children who are fortunate enough to have parents that can support them in this way probably don't realise quite how lucky they are. As a mum in full time work with no family support this is sadly impossible for my two budding performers! Good luck to everyone auditioning and remember to enjoy the opportunities :-)
  9. I agree Petal Violet you have made my week with this thread. You should write a book (and you could then use it for tutu skirt purposes as well!)
  10. What fantastic news! After all the uncertainty about whether your daughter should re-audition when initially she didn't want to - she must be very special indeed. Looking forward to hearing about her dance journey!
  11. This is really helpful. Dd starts in Prep 1 this September and is really excited. Have also had a couple of very helpful PMs from members of this group which have been very reassuring
  12. I barely dare ask but what is a "traditional ballet mum"?? I expect I don't fit the bill but I am always grateful to the mums who are ex dancers and often help out with information. I am also in awe of them as they are so graceful and exude calm - again unlike me. Good luck to all those starting on this exciting path!
  13. CookieMonster it is fantastic to hear of someone with good news! Well done!
  14. Starting to wonder whether today's no was a lucky escape as I'd be finding this so frustrating if I were one of those parents!
  15. Had deliberately ignored anything which impacted on Sundays - just trying to keep one day in the week "free" (ha ha)!! Let's see how my resolve is as the months pass. Can't go for YDA sadly as DD1 starting as an Associate at Central in September and my magical powers do not yet extend to being in two places at once. I'm so glad that the children have taken it so well today and have so much to look forward to!
  16. This is probably for another thread (and definitely for another day!) but interested to hear how your DD gets on at Tring and YDA Petalviolet - and anyone else taking up an Associate place elsewhere from September.
  17. Sorry to hear that Purple. I hope the disappointment is short lived and made up for by something else down the line!
  18. Really sorry to hear this Alfred71 - I was hoping it was going to be better news for those who hadn't heard earlier today, not least because you deserve better after the torturous wait!
  19. Thank you Noobag06 and to you and yours!! So few places and so much talent. There's always next year!
  20. Thanks Petalviolet , I'm sure she'll be fine - she wasn't expecting anything else. Hope you have better news.
  21. No for us (Yr 5 London). Not a surprise. Feel a little bit sorry for her that she'll still be dragged into London many Saturdays for other DD's Associate classes (not RBS). Good luck everyone!!
  22. It was emails last year too, though I don't remember so much traffic on this forum, but that's probably just my memory!
  23. I'm not sure if this will be any help whatsoever but last year London JAs results came out on Thurs 12th June. (Our email did anyway - DD1 had auditioned for a Y6 place).
