  1. The dentist I am registered with only works Monday and Friday. I cracked a tooth on Monday but as I wasn't in pain, it was not an emergency and so I managed to get appt today. Dentist put temp filling in tooth and I need to go back for X rays to decide what 'we' do next ... Next Monday is a bank holiday. Next Friday dentist is fully booked, the following week he is away, the following week is fully booked so I've got to wait till 22nd! But because I'm registered with him and it's not an emergency I can't see anyone else! However, if my 'temp' filling falls out, then give them a call and go back! Grrrr!
  2. I just loved watching this. thank you for posting, well done to your DS, and all the boys.
  3. DD sometimes says she is fat ... she isn't! I know it comes from some of the girls at school whose only interest is their appearance and putting down others. and like a previous poster, we go by fitting into favourite clothes! DD doesn't drink or eat 'diet' or low sugar drinks/food , as I don't like the chemicals and additives in them and she knows all about a healthy diet. Luckily her best friends are all either dancers or athletes, and they all know about healthy eating and generally they ignore the 'mean' girls as they call them.
  4. She was the one dancer that I wasn't compelled to watch!
  5. We're always told to emphasis the eyes. And I agree... subtle is not the way to go!
  6. Professional dance experience did a workshop day at our dance school recently and the children really enjoyed it. DD would like to go to their associates but she already dances when they offer classes.
  7. HAHA! when I saw you'd replied, I thought ... I bet it is BlueLou's DD who was Avatar! Marilyn Monroe is a much easier costume! I don't what is worse - nightmare costume or face paint!
  8. Lol ... that is dds current character ... far too much of an explanation needed! Talking of makeup ... I've seen 'avatar' and the genie from aladdin...both covered in blue face and body paint!
  9. song & dance ... I recently saw a girl doing 'bend and snap' from legally blond and another doing , 'mama I'm a big girl now' from Hairspray. I've seen a few people doing different songs from A chorus line. I love 'colour my world' which is in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I 'think' Petula Clark sang it originally! I'd love DD to have this for a song & dance one day, but she doesn't like it! character - I've just remembered seeing an amazing 'maleficent' from sleeping beauty recently. (hope I haven't just made this text huge ... it seemed really small when typing, and then when posted! )
  10. Juliet is a nice one. Also seen Air hostess, shop assistant/model/fashion designer (... can't remember exactly, but it seemed a bit of a mix of those 3! ) also Wolf from 3 pigs
  11. Thanks, sadly DD is too tall and we live too far away to be a 'friend'!
  12. [quote _________________ Another question! I was reading the comments about putting calamine on ballet shoes, and I think it makes sense to make the legs look longer. So can someone explain to me why some girls in festivals have to wear ballet socks? To me it just makes the leg look shorter and defeats the purpose. Is there a reason for them, and are they something required by the festival, or is it a school preference? We were told that the younger girls wear socks and the older wear tights ... usually moving into tights around age 12. No idea if that is school or festival preference but seems to be the way it is round here!
  13. oh my goodness! the children have their own solos ... usually starting with just one or two, and then adding more as time goes on ( DD has 6 or 7 depending upon categories in different festivals!) but they never get a solo or duet/trio etc without the parents agreeing in advance, and they don't do any at a festival without the parents agreeing! Our teachers let the children dance their dances as soon as they are 'just about there' ! no matter how experienced a performer is, the 'first time out' of any routine is always a tricky times, but I agree with pups mum, that that is when they REALLY learn the dance ( or like DD the other weekend ... make up a totally new dance instead! )
  14. LOL, if I didn't know you weren't her, you could almost be a good friend! She turned down Bristol for Kent/Canterbury, and she too met and married her husband there! I loved going to stay with her in Canterbury. Haven't been back since she graduated - about 25 ish years ago!
  15. At a festival today ... heard 'youngest by far' and 'only learnt this yesterday' ????
  16. I'm thinking about the RAD summer school for DD for NEXT year ( 2018! ) and am deciding between day student or boarding ( we could stay with family not too far away ) but would it be better for DD to board, and then to make better friends with her classmates? it says a theatre trip and something else is included ... is that only for those who board? having read that lessons are from 10-3.30, what do the boarders do the rest of the afternoon/evenings? Thanks x
  17. Hi, if this is still available, I'd be interested in buying it. Thanks x
  18. me too! my 'favourites' to date .. 'the Swedish mitten dance' 'the buying a baguette French dance' and another that I can't remember where it was from, but it entailed carrying a small cushion round whilst dancing! and this wasn't a little girls dance! this was one of the older girls! last time DD did her national, the adjudicator did comment that the arm position and 'head tilt' was similar to another countries national dance, and that there was a lot of cross over between several of those countries! ... so I'm guessing she at least, did have an idea about what she was watching!
  19. If DD is dancing in anything that has more than one performance, I have to see first performance, with my list of entrances etc, so that when we then go with family and friends, I can point her out!
  20. wish I could .... but I'm about 4hrs drive away!
  21. we tend to buy hair pins from primark and wilko, both seem to have supplies currently! however, they all seem a bit 'thick'. I used to use really fine hair pins ( the 'U' shaped ones, not the ones 'crimped' together ) and whilst clearing out a box of old jewellery etc from 'many years ago' ... found a small packet, and DD grabbed them, and loves them She's asked me to get some more fine ones ... but I never seen any anywhere! any ideas? I too bulk buy blonde lion hairnets from ebay!
  22. How lovely of the staff, but your poor DD and poor you. hope she feels better soon. xxx
  23. Same ... except this shop is not always helpful! We went to try on split sole ballet shoes ... i asked how much different makes were and was told 'they are all the same price' I asked how much the canvas shoes were .. '£4 less' ... but was very reluctant to actually tell me how much they were! I need a decent shop!
  24. have you tried spilt sole leather shoes? DD has narrow ankles and wide feet! she found So Danca 260 were a good fit, and she currently has some Bloch neoforms, which look beautiful on her feet! ( they are part leather and part neoprene! and expensive :0( ) my other suggestion would be to ring a ballet shoe/dance shop and ask for advice. do you have to have leather? good luck x
