  1. DD and her friends also had a brilliant week! I now need to find out the date for next year, as we will obviously have to arrange our whole summer holidays around it! DD has already been chatting to a couple of new friends on instagram !!!
  2. Thank you, they look great. I'm not on facebook, can I private message you to find out cost/postage etc? I think her tutu is about 80cm diameter, maybe a few cm extra. I like the idea of a waterproof bag! Thanks x
  3. Well done, fantastic I tap with a couple of ladies in their 70's ... they are amazing.
  4. DD and her friends arrived this morning at York Dance Assembly summer school, and were delighted with their timetables They were all so excited to go and explore, that they barely said goodbye!
  5. 80% and only because I couldn't believe that 'ankle slapper' was seriously anything real! would have been 90%
  6. I have a teenage son who plays basketball and football ... and he is the same ! ... it frequently looks like a plague of locusts has been through the kitchen!
  7. My DD is 11, and in September will be doing 10 hours a week of assorted dance, singing and drama. I think its is a bit much, but she REALLY wants to do it all! She really wants to do associates or similar as well, but currently her weekends are free, and I want to keep it that way so she has time to rest as well as fit in private lessons and practice!
  8. I have no experience of these classes but there is 'Ballet Bristol' - who are adults who are an amateur ballet company - as far as I know they have classes. and then when I googled to check their name, I also found 'adultballetclasses' in Bristol. good luck x
  9. I'm planning on doing nothing! DD leaves primary school tomorrow, and it has been a very busy ( and emotional ) last few weeks. We all need time to just stop and recharge!
  10. ours arrived this morning! I was about to email and ask! now to find some jazz shoes to borrow! DD never wore them to dance in, preferring bare feet or foot thong things, and after 2 years of brand new shoes never being worn, I refused to buy any more!
  11. the biggest nightmare is when they get 3 new dances at one time, AND grow out of a costume for dance they are keeping !!! ( even more of a nightmare, when the company that made the costume to our own design, says they don't use those fabrics anymore and can't/won't remake it! only had the dance a year - DD had a growth spurt! ) that's 4 costumes I have to find for next term! it costs us around £3/4 per class entry, and £5-£8 per day to watch per adult. costumes have been from £2.99 charity shop bargain dress to £80 for handmade unique design! we usually hire a local hall for a couple of hours every few weeks along with a friend to practice and add a private lesson every couple months, on top of weekly festival class.
  12. that's interesting, as my DD was encouraged to get split soles by her ballet teacher, and the lady in the shop kept telling us that if it was for an exam, she wouldn't be allowed to wear them. we got them anyway, as next ballet exams are a few months away, and no doubt DDs feet will have grown by then and anyway, the shoes will look trashed!
  13. Thanks for that. I may look at DD auditioning next year - She is starting high school this September, as well as a mad amount of dance and musical theatre classes and performances lined up, so we had already said no to even auditioning for any scholars this time round! Interesting that the auditions are so 'late' - other places seem to be in the April/May time. Do the master classes just get put on the website?
  14. Sounds brilliant. How do you find the master classes or info about scholars on their website? I followed the links and it says 'page not found'. DD isn't quite old enough yet, but it looks like exactly what she wants!
  15. DDs die pretty quickly too ... I usually sew them back up once or twice, but that's it! DD has just got some neoprene/neoform from Bloch. only had them a few weeks, she says they are great to dance in. She has bright pink, but they do flesh coloured too!
  16. my DD is 11, and is starting contemporary in September. Her teacher says she is ready as she has done a lot of jazz, modern and commercial dance and it will suit her. Usually they start at 12.
  17. That's brilliant, thank you. Well done to your DD, she comes across as a very mature and lovely girl. My DD suffered a variable hearing loss that none of us knew about for about 2 years, then it took another 2 years before anything was done about it. She still has a little hearing loss, but it is at a frequency that isn't used for long lengths of time. She has had to work out how to deal with this in both dance and school classes. x
  18. Thanks. we've found out that we know one of the English girls who won a gold with her team ( I don't know what for though! ) and her dance school has a very strong festival squad with only the best asked to join, and it always sounds very pressured. Our dance school encourages anyone who wants to have a go, to join the festival team and have some fun but I doubt we'd ever consider this!
  19. How do dance schools get to compete? I've watched some amazing performances, and like other posters, some that are not so amazing. I was wondering what the criteria was, or can any dance school enter?
  20. Thank you, that has helped a bit! a pinned list somewhere would be good! xx
  21. hello, Is there a list of abreviations that are used on this forum? some I know like DD/DS/DH etc, and some I can work out, but occasionally I am stumped! SWL in a thread about JA. ( I know JA is junior associates ) but what is SWL? something waiting list? thanks x
  22. My DS is 14 and always moans about having to come and watch any dancing performance - then sits there absolutely spellbound! ( he too, is easily swayed by the availability and choice of snacks of offer! )
