  1. years ago, I worked in Sydney Australia, and one of the cinemas I visited used to have a 'sound proofed' 'box' ( for want of a better word! ) at the back of the auditorium with a couple of rows of seats in, and the whole front was a big window so you could see the screen, and the audio was piped in. So if you had a noisy child etc, you could sit in there, and not disturb other people! it was only for watching films suitable for the child to see, but I did see signs that they also did screenings of films like 'titanic' ( shows you how long ago I was there! ) that parents of small babies could go and see, and take baby with them!
  2. I recently went to an orchestral concert in which a 'young' child repeatedly climbed over his parents, crawled on the floor, 'sang' and made a nuisance of himself. Luckily he was sitting a couple of rows in front of me, but still pretty distracting. The lady in front of me and behind asked, in the interval, if the parents were enjoying it and they said yes, she said she wasn't as their child was very distracting and they said ' he is autistic and had every right to be here ' she said that maybe it wasn't fair to everyone else AND the orchestra and was told it was perfectly fine, child loved music and it was her problem. She moved. It continued to be a problem and I wish we could have moved. If my child/rent could not sit still and quiet, I would not be taking them to live ( or even recorded/cinema ) events.
  3. sorry, I can't help with sizing at all! DD wears a variety of makes, but even the same brand sometimes seem to fit differently! However, I have found the website you linked to incredibly helpful with sizing, measurements etc. I would give them a call. good luck x
  4. Oh goodness. DD wanted to audition this year ????
  5. My DD's ballet music has changed, but she still wears the same tutu. It doesn't matter what the original intention of the music was, it's the dance your DD does.
  6. I can't think of any off hand, but there was a chap who took photos at the York summer school. but sadly, his name completely escapes me! We have used a local photographer who you pay a set fee for studio time and then you can either pay for individual photos, or for a CD of all images. I think it is quite common, and that's what I thought Angeldancewear was looking for. maybe look for a sports photographer?
  7. Oh dear I just found music on YouTube called 'space music - the cosmic Galaxy' ... DD ballet music is several different pieces cut together to vary the tempo/feeling. Good luck.
  8. Any of The Planets by Holst?
  9. Watching Beauty and the Beast today ... large, noisy party came in and sat at back of stalls ... lights went down and one of party dropped large bag of sweets ... cue lots of loud laughter. Small girl in front of DD, moving around constantly and talking and couple a few seats away checking phone. But what really made me laugh was the mum who arrived with 9/10yr old sized boy and said 'oh darling, I don't think it's a pantomime' ... HOW on earth can you book a ballet and not know!
  10. DD and I watched this afternoon and were totally spellbound from start to finish. Matthew Topliss was a very emotive Beast, Dominique Larose was a beautiful Beauty and we were entranced by the rest of the cast, who were all wonderful. Just a touch confused as not all the cast appeared to take a bow. I've not seen many ballets, but have seen innumerable other shows and performance and generally the whole cast appear at the end!
  11. Happy birthday . I only discovered this site last summer and it is now essential daily reading!
  12. Awww, I am so sorry to hear this. A lovely man I had the pleasure of hearing and whose books I read.
  13. Thanks. I'd already come to the conclusion that I would need to sew by hand :0)
  14. I knew there would be one on here somewhere! :0)
  15. Thank you! Hole is at the side ... the way you suggest marking is sort of how I plan to do it. I'm only going to do a very simple pattern and maybe add to it over time!
  16. I wish I could have bought a ready made costume! ... Pearly Queens are obviously not a regular choice of costume! I tried a low heat glue gun ... but sequin fell off :0 ( Ideally, I don't want the sequins to 'flap' around..but the cost and weight of buttons was prohibitive to the costume. I have ordered sequins and am waiting for them to arrive ... and my holiday task will be sewing them on! I might enlist a bit of help, but hard to all be sewing the same item! A friend suggested just sewing straight through them by sewing machine, but I know I'd have to tackle them in place first, in which case, I might as well hand sew them on! Thank you everyone for your help!
  17. Yes, penny sequins! The fabric is lightweightish polyester ... it would need a cool iron so I'm thinking a glue gun isn't going to work.:0( but thank you for the suggestion. X
  18. Help! DD needs 00s if not 000s of sequins sewing onto a costume (skirt and waistcoat) But not small ones that I can buy on a thread ... bigger ones, that come separately! But, they only have one little hole at the side. My problem is ... how do I sew them on, so they don't flap around? And then I'll start worrying about getting them evenly spaced and level! Guess how I'm spending the Christmas holidays?!!!
  19. DS did it for me the other week when DD found a track she wanted to dance to in YouTube that we couldn't find anywhere else! I couldn't do it, but he did it in a blink of an eye!
