  1. we were driving home earlier and were commenting on the brightness of the moon and I said I was sure that was Venus ( google star map confirmed it! ) and we thought we could just see Mars, but wondered if we were imagining it! I might have to have a look for Jupiter tomorrow. Thanks x
  2. DD would love to do another ballet class but the next grades up for her either clash with a class she is already taking, or are on the one day she doesn't dance and she really needs that break to rest (and do homework!)
  3. Regarding fossil hunting - the whole of the north yorkshire coast is the 'Jurassic Coast' and some great finds have been made there. Scarborough Rotunda museum has a plesiosaur skeleton fossil that was found at Reighton, and whilst on the beaches there we have found lots of ammonites and belemnites, devils toenails, fossilised seaweed and more! All of these we have found just by poking around in the pebbles on the beach.
  4. I love the North York Moors and coastline. Amazing little villages clinging to the edge of the sea. York is a great place to visit with the Minster, museums, the shambles (tiny little shops and lanes) and the city walls. Oh and the railway museum. Castle Howard is stunning stately home and there are a multitude of Castles and Abbeys to visit in the area that belong to English Heritage. Dalby forest is a vast forest with walks and play parks, bike trails (and bike hire too) amazing walk to the Bridestones.. weathered and shaped rocks. And then Whitby with the Abbey and harbour and not forgetting Scarborough.
  5. Lol .... i am finding myself wanting to go to Aldi to get a Kevin although the closest store is about 45 mins drive away!
  6. A friends DS recently sung 'Giants in the sky' from Into the woods at a singing competition. He is 12, but looks younger. He was told it was a very appropriate song.
  7. Fantastic. What wonderful news. Congratulations to your DD.
  8. Happy Birthday Lisa, I too am looking forward to your report ... a chocolate orange is my special treat at Christmas. (Especially when eaten with a hot chocolate with an added dash of cointreau!)
  9. Could also turn into a Saturday/part time job!
  10. I was going to suggest the same thing, but to contact a school/ collage closer to home. A friend of a friends dd did the same thing last year. Good luck x
  11. White football and hockey socks! Seriously?! Why even manufacture them?
  12. He's part of my childhood Very sad.
  13. No advice just a great big hug as I know what family members can be like. I would, if it was me, and I could, carry on ignoring and not helping. But it would be very hard. Hugs x
  14. I always wash pink ballet tights and socks in the white wash. Generally ok, although one pair of tights faded to grey! (Which reminds me ... better check tight situation as exams coming up!)
  15. :0 ( ...i wrote a long post last night and it's vanished! I want to put poorly maintained roads in room 101, and also the speeding drivers in huge cars that drive down the middle of said poorly maintained roads causing me to hit a pot hole and rip the inner wall of my car tyre. I'd then also like to add cars that don't have spare tyres, just gunge, come with silly plastic tools and then wheel nuts put on so tight that they can't be undone! Can you guess what I spent 3 hours doing yesterday?!
  16. The big thing round our way is not only to have age appropriate routine and music, but also age appropriate costume. DD tends to change dances every couple of years as she outgrows them! ... you can't have a teenager with a tooth fairy dance for example! Enjoy xxx
  17. I usually love Eurovision, but last year got so bored with it - everything sounded the same, and nothing stood out ( except for Ukraine and I thought they would win ) The political voting is a joke too!
  18. DD (11) uses a max factor panstick and sadly ... they do need to look a little 'tangoed' because of the lighting! DD has eyeshadow pencils by BarryM and whatever cheap blusher, mascara and red lipstick we find when buying new! My friend recommends Avon eyeliner pens, and DD having used one this last week, thought it was very easy to use. Hope that helps.

    Festivals

Good morning, I know there have been a few threads lately about festivals, and how beneficial they are ( or not ) and I just wanted to say that DD has been at a festival for the past 4 days, and it has been the most positive, friendly experience. All the dancers were fantastic, and lovely with each other, and all the dance schools chatted together. It really makes all the hours and time and energy spent preparing for festivals ( as a parent ! ) worth while, when you see all those happy faces. .... now to sort out the myriad of costumes, tights, hair decorations and shoes!
  20. Parents and small children out on bikes on unlit roads in the dark without lights, (or reflective clothing) cycling down middle of the road :0 ( Mobility scooters going down the middle of the road again with no lights (I don't think they have them!) in the dark, when there is actually a pavement wide enough and flat enough for them to use. Also an unlit road. Both of which I encountered last night several hours after it got dark!
  21. Oooo I saw this yesterday! Hardly ever put TV on for the children. I was cringing a bit but decided 'teacher' was probably 'just'an actress. As a childminder, i used to get very fed up with the inaccurate portrayal of a childminder in another childrens programme (granny murray) and have been told 'it's not real' by the programme makers, which doesn't help give parents a true idea. I just Googled ... the little girl and dad are really father & daughter, mum is played by an aunt and voiced by big sister.
  22. DD started in a duet with a friend which meant they had someone else to share the excitement and nerves with (and I had another mum to share costume dilemmas with!) They both then started solos.
  23. Wow. Wonderful news. I'm so pleased for you and your DD.
