  1. Thanks Balletmum1704 and Dancey - still can't find them through What's On/September but used the suggested link. DD is so excited to be seeing her friend in it as it will be her last time with NYB.
  2. Has anyone been able to buy tickets? Am I missing something - can't find them on Sadler's Wells or NYB web pages.
  3. Either a half or a full insole or both allow you to buy a bigger size of shoe - you then take then out in whatever order you need. Worked well for us when we were given a lovely handed down pair of character shoes, as long as they faster well enough for them to be comfortable round the foot.
  4. All over - went well - so proud of her! Thanks again for the tips.
  5. Thank you everyone - looks like we are going ahead with the coke option!
  6. So not ballet related but I know that some of you have DC that are tappers. DD did really well with her tap solo recently and has been asked to preform at a local event tomorrow. We went there for a rehearsal this evening only to discover that the stage is carpeted. The floor of the hall will be fine however it is quite slippy. She was very good at the rehearsal and when we got home said nothing but has just come to me in tears (1.30am!!!) to say she is worried. I can't recall the floor exactly but she said it is wooden with a varnish - any ideas what we can do?
  7. Thanks for this Katymac - will also pass this on to DD's friend as they both love jazz dance.
  8. My DD had never done stretching as part of her ballet nor has she done gymnastics. She recently added some classes that involve a significant amount of stretching and has made an improvement in flexibility but whether or not it has improved her ballet I can't tell - sorry still too much of a Newdancermum! I agree with sarahw that if she can do all three splits at age 10 flexibility may not be a problem but there is nothing wrong with doing some daily stretches as long as she is careful.
  9. I have never done ballet but have been involved in fitness and training with teens to seniors. The start of classes was cardio and gentle stretching with any "serious" stretching done (obviously not too much with my over 70's) when well warmed up and followed with a cool down of long gentle stretches. I have always been concerned about the pre-audition stretching that we see. My grandmother started to teach me yoga when she was nearly 60 and she continued to dance until she was 90 with never an injury or joint pain, most likely due to the calm nature of the stretching she did.
  10. This is what the web site says - I have either misunderstood what I was told last year or they have changed plans. If the audition dates work I will see if DD wants to give it a go this year.
  11. Looks like I have completely misunderstood the announcement last year. There also seems to be some misinformation going around as I had heard a few months back that the Peacock had double booked this year which was one reason they changed the format and that they would be using another theatre in 2018. Looking back at last years announcement does anyone know what happened to the plans for partner schools. I passed this on at the time to DD's teacher but don't think she followed up. I haven't seen or heard anything more about this venture.
  12. Can't answer on the batching of e-mails but from hearing news in previous years those with the same results did not always come through at the same time. I recall that in 2015 the London results were out by the equivalent of the end of last week. Good luck to those waiting.
  13. I thought they were changing the format this year - last year's announcement was for a larger company with a show in a West End theatre in 2018 but I see it is 60 children back at the Peacock. Anyone with insight on this? Would also like to know rehearsal days/times before applying? I am assuming schools will allow time off for this?
  14. I hadn't picked up on this point - better start saving for next summer now - it does look a great course!
  15. We have looked this a few times and the format for rehearsal seemed to change with some focused on weekend and holiday times and others including after school hours and some even in school time. It does look such a great opportunity for training as well as performance experience. Just hoping one day that we can make it work for us and go for the audition. I might just need to plan it around some annual leave for myself. Does anyone know if schools treat this the same as allowing time off for dance exams?
  16. DD on SWL for Birmingham so crossed fingers here - probably all the way until October - and more than likely for nothing but it gives hope!
  17. DD's friend is a Year 4 JA and one of only four in the class. I had thought that Year 4 entry was higher but apparently not. When the last report came out while having coffee and cake with another long suffering dance Mum she worked out some stats on the JA data. It varies significantly from centre to centre but on average but over all centres and taking both girls and boys there is a 14% chance of a place. This goes down to 7% in Leeds and London for girls and is 20% for boys in Newcastle (23% in London and Manchester) and is up at 24% for girls at Totnes and 58% for boys at Eastleigh. Average across girls is 11% and boys 32%. It may vary from year to year and at the end of day they will take those they like on the day. Good luck to all auditioning.
  18. Following on from the on the discussion on the Lower Schools post about the over egging of 100% scholarships for vocational school I have just come across a dance school which is celebrating summer school places at open summer schools alongside those which require audtions/photo applications such as Elmhurst and Royal - need I say more!
  19. One of our local schools have just done the same thing in the last few weeks and we know that the DC was offered an MDS.
  20. I heard that a DC either last year or the year before was offered a WL place after SS and the same thing has happened at Elmhurst in the past. Neither had thought to apply for main school until they were made the offer. It can happen!
  21. As has been said above the Cadogan web site is helpful on getting an idea of the view you might get. It is a lovely venue, not too big, but not sure about it for ballet although if you do get the right seat it could prove to be a good experience. I was sent details the of the NK event the other day and have looked at seat options but didn't book in the end as the ticket prices on one part of the site did not match another page for the event. Is it me or is there something not quite right? I was happy to go for the second price if I could get some good seats but those I chose then looked like third price and maybe a slightly restricted view. Just been back to take a look and tickets are going fast!
  22. 10.15 am to 12.30 pm
  23. Does anyone know anything about this summer school? http://www.professionaldanceexperience.org.uk/summerballetcoursetwickenham20151/ Thanks.
  24. I wasn't aware that 10th March was the deadline - our application was submitted after the 10th and haven't heard that it wasn't accepted - definitely phone and ask.
  25. So without JAs behind you don't hold your breath! Thankfully we have a few associates applications in the pipeline to keep DDs mind off it for now! I think I told her after Easter for results as she has her ballet exam coming up and is getting stressed with that and SATs revision.
