We were told that Moorland only have two dance bursaries a year and that they go to Year 7 (but would be happy to be corrected) if anyone knows of those being offered one joining in other year groups. Apparently they focus their bursaries on the football side.

Thanks Bluebird22 - yes these are similar to what I have been looking at. I have seen foot thongs but she wasn't keen on the ides for the reason you have noted.

Can anyone help me with pirouette shoes? DD has asked for a pair and I have a few questions. Do they really need them? Can they not just use ballet shoes or will they then just wear out all the quicker? Which is best - leather or canvas? I have read some reviews and am now even more confused. Canvas seem to be more popular but more likely to wear out quicker. Thanks

Yes wait list for us too - wondering how high the numbers go up to! All I can say is we are going to withdraw! Sorry to say that I am not sure it will help anyone out though! Would love to know if anyone who applied from January received a place. From what I was told the move of the course back to the old premises has meant the new format doesn't easily fit. Saying that when the new format was announced the staff didn't know how it would work out! Feeling cynical about even applying next year.

Vaseline or creams with Vitamin E or Urea or aloe (not all will have a smell) would be good. Unfortunately what works for one person may not work for another. Hope you make a speedy recovery.

I have heard that Year 7 WL offers for girls are out and also those continuing mid associates have been told about their places. Mids offers can’t be far behind although it has been into April some years.

Good news of a Year 7 WL place for a DS we know! As an aside I should maybe change my user name - nearly three years as the mum of a new dancer we are no longer newbies. I am still very much in the dark but this forum has been such a reassurance for me on so many issues. All the best for those on the audition rounds this year for lower and upper schools. It is lovely to hear of the successes of her new friends and others here on the forum.

Thank you - you are right. I would love a summer school abroad - for me as much as DD so maybe next year. Ideas welcome - somewhere warm and sunny with good food and wine and nothing to do but read. Usual dance mum territory - but swapping the bad weather and coffee and cake! PS - It does say three weeks on the web site but April is still nearer five - I don't get any more patient as I get older - that's for sure! DD as usual will take it in her stride!

So we managed to get a DVD done and off to ENB. I thought the web site said a response within two weeks but I can't find this now and we have been told that we wont hear anything before the start of April. Anyone else heard anything back about a date for outcomes? I did see that they had an international audition for summer school this week. I am beginning to think this wasn't worth the effort and cost. I know RBS is also a long shot but at least, for now, they only ask for photos. Feeling quite despondent for DD.

Oh dear the new Bloch store was a disappointment. The store looks nice and easy enough to find but we were expecting it to be bigger and a greater selection. No sale from us today but we did pickup some goodies elsewhere and enjoyed our trip to the ROH.

Thank you - at the very least it will be nice for her to do a one-to-one coaching session. We have allowed plenty time to do normal class work and then work on the video.

Their web sight says three weeks after a live audition date. We have just booked studio space for half-term so hoping that places will still be available in a months time. Will going back to the old venue reduce places - I assumed the new site would have more space - just worried that the cost of applying will not be worth it.

Does it not say in your Royal Ballet School account what you have applied for or does this only work for intensives? I thought they checked what you applied for at the time of the audition. They did the year my friend's DD went as they only had her down for WL and they had requested MAs so it was updated. They didn't have the electronic web system at the time so perhaps it is different now.

I know the feeling! DD told me the other night that she was quite relaxed about audition results. Read that as "Mum stop stressing"!

We were planning a half-term trip to the dance shops in Covent Garden but one of DD's dance school friends said they visited Bloch when they were in London yesterday and it is closing - surely not? Any insight from regular Bloch shoppers?

This was my first reaction too Jan - it's for the insurance company to deal with anything and everything. I was involved in a very minor incident in the dance school car park a few years back and made the error of agreeing we could sort it out between ourselves. I didn't agree to give her cash but wanted to pay the garage directly - it was a minor scratch on her car - turned out her insurance was third party and she resorted to a no-win/no-fee company and the case turned into a thousands of pounds claim plus injury compensation which my insurers had to refute and fraud investigators were involved - her company dropped her case and she decided to "represent herself" - the case is on-going! If anything ever happens again I would be straight onto the insurance company!

YBSS have just announced a third week, starting 27th July, with applications open on Monday 21st January.
