  1. DS did Northern Ballet in Leeds summer school. Hard work but very enjoyable and he said he learnt a lot. If you're outside the UK audition is by DVD/YouTube etc. He loved it, and was talking about doing it next year on the train back home!
  2. We travel for an hour on the train each way for DS associate scheme, not including the 20 minute car drive to the station or the 20 minute walk from the station to class!
  3. Ds seems to be good at sports (another thing like the dancing he doesn't get from me!) High jump, long jump and triple jump seem to be the best atm, even though he's not quite got the technique right and is "jumping like a dancer" ?
  4. We are in East Yorkshire and do 2 festival's a year, they are pretty big and last a week. Also they are All Englnad qualifiers. They have always had solo sections, they are always on stage by themselves also defiantly no photos or video we wouldn't dare!!!
  5. Ds has a leotard/dance belt combo for his associate class. Got it from Planet dance, it is one thing less to misplace except he left his pants in the changing room!!
  6. Ds wears a moi dance belt with a thong back. Says it comfy...ish! He was 11 and his dance teacher "suggested " one after he wore a white costume in a show ?! She also told him how to wear it, as I hadn't a clue!!
  7. We had hoped they would have spent more than one day in Hull as well. Not holding out much hope for tickets!!
  8. My DS is an associate at Northern Ballet in Leeds. They take them from 9 years old. He's just got his 3rd year there and loves it! It's a fantastic scheme.
  9. Asked DS, who was a JA last year (now an Intermediate), he said it is very much a normal class. Was assessed by a couple of people and said he didn't notice them after a while! Good luck to your DD!
  10. My DS went "Julie Walters"...half the class went ????
  11. DS's teacher says when the students are running (or what ever the term is!!) You look like you're running for "a bus" "the next sale" or the latest one " you're holding your hands like you're carrying two soups"!!
  12. It was amazing we are going back for a 2nd look this week! The sound at the Deep was 1st class, very much looking forward to our year of culture????
  13. He did one of these in Hull, such an interesting man!
  14. Kevin O'Hare did a 'talk with' earlier this year in Hull. Chatting with him afterwards (as you do!) he was talking about doing something for Hull2017 and mentioned wanting to bring some of the Royal Ballet to do 'something' with other dancers from the area. DS was ????????. So I guess we wait and see!
  15. DS used a red thera band in NBT JA's ( still using it in the Inters!) Got it from Amazon. Hope your DD has a great time!
  16. DS often gets "Oooooo the next Billy Elliot!" he just smiles now. We've had "is he really still doing his dancing shenanigans"?! Then back at school he finds that he's in the bottom group for PE as he doesn't do much exercise...13 hours of dance a week atm...????
  17. We did our first stage door visit at Matthew Bournes Sleeping Beauty this year, to meet the fabulous Liam Mower. Encouraged by DS teacher who also taught Liam. "Go meet him, he's lovely" and he was! DS was ????????!
  18. Peanut as a TA working with children with ASD I am disgusted that TAs or anyone were allowed to get away with sharing senstive information with anyone else. They were on very dodgy ground I hope you reported them!!! Very glad your DS has found dance!
  19. My 11 year old DS has never sat still, whenever music was on he danced! Went to a small dance school to start with (at 4) moved to a bigger one 3 years ago and has never looked back. Within 6 months his teacher was talking about RBS Ja's which totally shocked this none dancing mum! Now with NBT associates and is determined to dance for Matthew Bourne! Not sitting still sometimes pays off ????
  20. Hello Yorkshire pudding! My DS has been dancing since he was 4 (now 11) started with a small school, and as the only boy, and now at a larger school with about 10 of them! He's a JA at Northern Ballet in Leeds, they take them at 9, facilities and teaching are amazing. Worth keeping an eye out for Balletlorent who do audition children at 7. DS did Rapunzel with them and it was such a confidence builder. Good luck!
  21. Absolutely taxi4ballet! I got some tights for DS and they were "small mens". Rather expensive! He was 10, suggested sending him to the bar as he was now an adult ????
  22. I wash DS's canvas shoes in the washer, rub them with bio washing liquid. After washing I pack them with flannels, soaks up the water and keeps their shape. Small boys + white ballet shoes = muck magnet.????
  23. Well done to your Dd hans11, see you in September!
