  1. A long time ago, a certain director of dance would have blocked my daughter from auditioning for anything. We got a private teacher and everything went through her. Because of opportunities we decided to take, my daughter went from strength to strength with her training.
  2. This is so very sad, my heart goes out to her and her family, her poor parents must be worried sick. I hope she is found safe and well.
  3. Don't worry everyone. When my daughter was at Central, they had a wide range of heights 5ft to 5ft 7ish, my daughter is 5ft 5. and was a middle height. It is an amazing school, which offers outstanding training.
  4. This is fabulous news CleB. I've only just come back onto the forum after not been active for ages and ages. Your son deserves his success, he has worked so hard, sacrificed so much and has made some very rave decisions. You as his mum can now breath and enjoy his success too.
  5. A fantastic school that offers high standard training to ALL students. Glad they are finally getting their new premises.
  6. Of course it's not just photo based, the students standard of training must be of a high enough standard to cope with the ballet classes offered. This is an international ss where the standard is going to be extremely high. It's no good having a beautiful physique without the experience and ability. My daughter attended the senior summer school a couple of years ago, very few British, standard was high, classes full on.
  7. Well done, my dad also has Parkinson's and it's very tough on my mum as she is his carer
  8. Is it a dance physio, it would be best if it was as they will understand more.
  9. My daughter has natural turn out, but even at vocational school my daughter went to a private teacher ex professional dancer who taught her on a one to one, what muscles to engage when using her turn out. Even when she was at lower vocational school she was not taught properly how to engage these muscles. Her private teacher would touch her, instruct verbally to squeeze and hold. By the time she got to Central she had achieved the skill to fully hold and use her flat turn out. It took years of correct training for her to fully use and engage her natural turn out correctly, shouting out turn out, turn out isn't going to work.
  10. When auditioning at top vocational dance schools, the panel are watching candidates at all times, a ballet walk is very important and has to look right.
  11. They do ballet, pas de dux and repertoire plus contemporary every day as far as I can remember. I will ask my daughter next time I'm in touch with her.
  12. My daughter went to Tring and left with 9 GCSEs A*-A's and 1B, they were strong subjects. She started at the school very bright and continued that way. The academics at Tring is excellent, they are grouped on academic ability.

  14. Fantastic opportunity for your son, so lovely when hard work is rewarded. So pleased for you all x
  15. A child may be very talented, however a parent always know their child best and will therefore know if leaving home will be something their child can cope with. A good teacher will identify potential and talent.
  16. Royal Ballet will be looking for potential, physique and musicality, regardless of whether you are an JA,MA or SA, they know what they are looking for. At age 11 they will no doubt want a body they can train to professional standard. There will be so few spaces and so many students from all around the world applying. A further note to point out, no vocational school will want students that are too thin. A dancer is an athlete that must be healthy, intelligent and strong, one who has stamina and strength. Best of luck, you have as much chance as all the others.
  17. Another way to think Balletbrokemybank, is your son receiving high standard dance training at the associate programme with an excellent teacher and perhaps a live pianist? If the answer is yes and your son is enjoying these classes, then you are paying for a service that they are providing. Rather than Elmhurst taking your money, they are offering a place for your son who is good enough for their programme, remember there are so many children who could have that space, but your son has been awarded it. Good luck for his other audition ????
  18. The dance world is a very cut throat, competitive environment. A sense of fairness doesn't come into it. Top schools and associate programmes are looking for most potential and talented dancers. As a mum giving advice to other mums, if our children are to accept this and have to learn to deal with this environment then we must too. I have been an observer of the dance world since my daughter was three, she is now 20, successfully completed her training and is now dancing professionally, I've been there and worn the t. Shirt, the dance world generally isn't fair, it just wants what's right for them, simple as that.
  19. My daughter taught at a few classes just before she left for her first contract. She has been taught to professional standard, she has also studied anatomy as part of her degree. The first thing she wanted to observe before teaching was the level of the dancers and their needs. She took advice from the other teachers who she was going to cover. I know she worried about teaching, but she did enjoy it, and had so much more to learn herself.
  20. Your teacher sounds wonderful LinMM, the respect and commitment you have towards him is so lovely. I am sure that to get where he is today, he has had years of training, dancing and teaching.
  21. My daughter didn't like these shoes as they prevented her rolling through her feet. She too has very strong flexible feet, but she found these shoes not right for her.
  22. This sounds very impressive, how many students will there be in the class per year?
  23. When my daughter attended the upper ballet summer school at the Royal, they had an audition class where I think they where very interested in one girl.
  24. The teacher gently moved the little one, her little legs were in the air cycling, it was a very gentle move. The teacher was also projecting her voice, so everyone could hear her clear instructions, a big difference between projection and shouting. The children in the video wore all types of clothing and colours, this little girl clearly loved pink and wanted to wear pink.
