  1. Just wondering has anyone taken Hubert Essakow's Sunday class at Central? Any opinions on the level and the teaching? Debating trying this one over David's Beginner Improver+ class but wanted some first hand experiences if anyone would be able to share?
  2. I'm visiting Madrid for a few days in about a week's time and was thinking it might be really nice to do a class whilst I'm there. Does anyone have any recommendations for a drop in adult ballet class for a low intermediate level? I'll be there Wednesday to Saturday. Also any really good ballet stores as I'm always looking for new leotards! Would love any other ballet themed suggestions of things to do whilst I'm there (or non-ballet related too.)
  3. I find Wear Moi leotards fit longer in the body and are also very flattering so could be perfect for auditions.
  4. I was so disappointed and frustrated with the coverage. They might as well have not been dancing at all from the amount they showed. Especially the Royal Ballet School students where it was either a shot from miles away or they kept cutting to the projections or just views of the Mall!
  5. I have thick hair with lots of wispy fluff when I scrape it back. I tend to braid the front top sections or do two little twists into the bun. It still have some stray hairs but this tends to contain enough of them to be neat, without needing hairspray. On some days I just do two French braids and pin them up into a twist at the back. Keeps everything neat and changes up where the pressure on my hair is.
  6. Looking to buy two stalls circle standing tickets for the Royal Ballet Romeo and Juliet if anyone has any spare? Hoping to see the Wednesday 13 October 2021 performance at 7.30pm and surprise my friend for her birthday who has never been to the ballet!
  7. I don’t think my post ever said that performance experience makes you a better teacher? I was simple raising a few different questions of things she may want to look at, from a marketing perspective, that attract a dancer or their parents to a studio given that was her dream for the future. Unfortunately in the current climate social media and good marketing are going to be an element of maintaining a successful studio. You can be an excellent teacher and want to attract enough students to be financially viable. We all know what makes a good teacher, the average consumer may not.
  8. She could also take a look at some studios locally and further afield and see where their teachers and company owners came from. Do a bit of research and see who is successful and what their dance training journey was. Also as a consumer, what about the school/teachers would attract or put you off going there. A lot of it will be about marketing and having big school names on there for training, even for an associates scheme does attract some people. Accreditation from a well known place like RAD may be reassuring to some of her future students, or perhaps a bit of performing experience? If she’s serious, a bit of research now could really help.
  9. I’m so sad Beatriz is leaving, she was always my favourite dancer to watch. Every single role she danced was brought to life and she is such a beautiful artist. She really knows how to create a character, her Juliet was so full of depth. Does anyone know when she will be dancing before she leaves? I really want to see her dance at least once more time!
  10. The So Danca SD16 stretch canvas shoes really do look wonderful and fit best a massive range of feet. I have short toes and they are the best I’ve tried, I always end up going back to them. They do have a range of widths too, plus the stretch canvas makes the fit a bit more forgiving as there’s a lot of give!
  11. I got this one early on during the lockdown, it came really quickly. https://www.ballet-barre.co.uk/product-page/home-practice-barrre-is-for-use-in-the-home Dismantles easily into 3 pieces which is great for storing in a small place. I can put it up and down myself and also move around when it is still put together too. Mine is 1.5 metres which is perfect for my space (I use it with a 2x2 metre piece of Marley flooring) but they also do a smaller and larger size too. If you are using it regularly for proper class I probably wouldn’t recommend any smaller as it is nice not having to worry about hitting the bottom supports when facing the barre and doing a tendu to the side. It feels pretty sturdy, is really nicely made (in the UK I believe) and definitely makes dancing at home a lot more enjoyable not having to use chairs or the kitchen counter!
  12. Got2be glued hairspray. Keeps hair in place but also brushes out nicely. I think my hair was more shiny once I brushed it out! I quite like the smell over some of the other brands too.
  13. Not live streamed but Kathryn Morgan has some good classes on YouTube. Her barre combinations are nice and she has a range of different level ones there.
  14. Thank you so much for all of your replies, I looked into a lot of your suggestions and I think you were right, focussing on ballet outside of work is probably where I will enjoy it more. Turns out I’ve been offered a job within my company, in the operations area starting in just over a month. However, I’ll be moving to Basel in Switzerland! So anyone with any advice on ballet and living in Switzerland I’d love to hear from you.
  15. I know this isn’t strictly doing dance so if it’s in the wrong place sorry please move! I’m having a bit of a career crisis and was hoping the wise people here on this board might be able to help. I’m 24 years old, work in marketing and have been at the same company in the same role (although with two promotions) for three years. I’ve come to the conclusion that whilst I’m good at what I do, I really don’t enjoy it. So I need to find somewhere to move to. Now for the hard part. I love ballet, always have done, but only started dancing at 16. I think part of me would like to try and work in a role that incorporates ballet in some way, but I have no idea what’s out there. I don’t have a ballet body and my technique really will never be good enough to teach so that one is out. I think being confined to a desk all day possibly isn’t for me either. I’m good at research and planning. I’ve organised events for 450 people overnight (that one nearly killed me!) but logistics and analysis are my skills. I’m also pretty good at customer service as I have to answer the overflow calls on our reservations lines (it’s cruises I’m marketing) and our reservations director regularly jokes she wants to poach me... I’ve taught myself so many things for the role: HTML code, Indesign, Photoshop, filming and editing videos, copywriting ect. The one thing I’m really really not good at is maths! I also know a lot about ballet and dancewear from reading these forums, taking classes around the country and world (once all the way in Taiwan!) and research. Pointe shoes and fitting also fascinate me. I’d be very grateful for any suggestions of where I could look for a new opportunity. My friend joked I should start a new leotard company because I’m obsessed but I only have basic sewing skills and I think stretch fabrics are super complicated to sew.
  16. After seeing her Juliet I was hoping to see Beatriz Stix-Brunell in another lead role as she was so stunning artistically and technically. She’s lit up the stage in everything I’ve seen her in, even just in supporting roles. Am I missing something or is she not cast much? What can I see her in this season?
  17. Do you have photos of the Barreto leotard?
  18. Pink tights under leotard, black ones over. I always think that black ones under look really weird! Mine are black stirrup tights so they go over my pink shoes to make sure they don’t break up the line of my leg.
  19. Please could you send me photos of the yumiko? Does it fit similar to a size small in Capezio or Bloch?
  20. Every time I’ve seen Beatriz dance, up until now only in soloist type roles, she’s always drawn my eye. So I was really desperate to see her dance Juliet and I’m so glad I did. Her innocence, overwhelming love for Romeo and desperation were so incredibly portrayed. She grew from childish and shy to determined. Her artistry was beautiful and Hirano supported her wonderfully. I’ve never really watched him properly but tonight I really enjoyed his interpretation of Romeo and felt his growth as he matured as he met Juliet, who he supported wonderfully with beautiful partnering. It was a stunning performance.
  21. Is the view not great? It says the view is restricted by the pillar, is it that bad?
  22. View from Stalls Circle C 22, is it ok for someone short??
