I prefer variation in triple bills rather than similar works, in this case, dark and modern, although GDV does have great music to finish. There was an article in The Times that I thought had been mentioned but perhaps not, Kyle Abraham is interested in using pointe shoes at times, also Natalia Osispova and Joseph Sissens were going to dance in the new ballet!

Horrible experience, it was worse than the recent ROH Friends one, at least I got some tickets eventually and an apology (and free programme). I tried booking for an ENO opera and think if I had clicked on "Pay" it would have worked but luckily I didn't, so if it was only the short notice Gala booking it was understandable.

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
Beryl H replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Aren't there black swans in the traditional 4th act, although they dance to music that isn't used in this version ? From the upper amphitheatre Odette isn't visible anyway, I was able to see the ending on my Blu-ray though, I think she should be lower and possible further back so everyone can see her.- 1,276 replies

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)

I'm becoming fond of it, there are some versions on Youtube, think the best was La Scala, which was of course beautifully sung.- 1,276 replies

I am so sorry to read this, he was my favourite ballet critic, his review was always the one I most wanted to read.

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
Beryl H replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I love the last paragraph above, I'm going to watch my 1960 RB DVD tonight as I think Benno is still helping out Siegfried in the pdd, also one of the things I love about the new Liam Scarlett production is the ending of the pdd where she falls back and stays there, much more poetic.- 1,276 replies

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
Beryl H replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I'm hoping that there will be some kind memories of Liam Scarlett in the programme, if not an opening night announcement from Kevin O'Hare. At the opening night of Two Pigeons, Kevin O'Hare made a lovely tribute to the people of Paris following the terrorist attacks there and dedicated the performance to them, he might do something similar tonight for the people of Russia!- 1,276 replies

I found the Wayne McGregor documentary really interesting, great locations too, Wayne has a beautiful house in the Devon countryside, and it was the first time I have seen Diaghilev's tomb on a Venetian island, I've always found it strange that a man who was terrified of the sea wanted to be buried there. The connection between Infra and the London July bombings was fascinating too. Also plenty of choreography new to me, those incredible movements!

ROH "Spring" booking - problems and experiences
Beryl H replied to Lizbie1's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Without checking the casting, I booked the 26th and 29th, and I wanted the 23rd matinee but it was a 12.30 start, so resisted! Glad to hear the wesite is behaving. -
There is an excerpt from the new BRB production on BBC4 at 8pm tonight in the Dance Passion series.

The ROH booking website - what can we do?
Beryl H replied to Geoff's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I send an E-mail to "BoxOffice@roh.org.uk" giving details of the ticket and requesting a Gift Certificate, then they E-mail an automatic reply saying how busy they are which must be true these days, and then usually one or two days later they E-mail the Gift Certificate details. -
ROH "Spring" booking - problems and experiences
Beryl H replied to Lizbie1's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I decided to print out the 3 tickets I bought yesterday and feel I must praise this part of the ROH ticket system, perfect size and clarity without having to fiddle with all the settings. This is in comparison to trying to get a decent Odeon ticket printed for next week! -
ROH "Spring" booking - problems and experiences
Beryl H replied to Lizbie1's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
It all seemed okay at 9am, no-one in the queue and got my first ticket, then it all went to pot, horribly similar to last Friends Booking, can't explain it all but definitely having 2 booking systems is part of the problem, I decided to quickly pay for the first ticket while I could, then went back and eventually got another 2 performances, not such good seats as nearly an hour had passed! So confusing, especially as I had some Gift Certificates to use, which I did, so at least that worked! -
ROH "Spring" booking - problems and experiences
Beryl H replied to Lizbie1's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
My ROH website was badly corrupted last Friends Booking Day, it was only after an E-mail to their Technical Advice and their help that got it sorted out, I'll be very cautious this time! -
I managed to record this in mode LP instead of the usual SP which means less good quality, so really looking forward to a Blu Ray which I'm sure won't be long! My first reaction was slight disappointment, I think the purpose was for a continuous ballet without applause breaks, the solo's merged into the action then disappeared, most of all I missed a major pdd in each Act, the first one with Fumi Kaneko was good but over so quickly, and the big one I thought was coming with Sarah Lamb didn't happen, some beautiful movements though.

What Got You Into Watching Ballet?
Beryl H replied to Dawnstar's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The very first step was hearing The Nutcracker on LP at home, finding out Tchaikovsky wrote 3 ballets and buying Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, wanting to see how they danced to the beautiful music, then going to see Swan Lake in 1965 at the ROH, the fact that Margot Fonteyn danced Odette/Odile at my first ballet amazes me now.- 85 replies

ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET: RAYMONDA
Beryl H replied to capybara's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Are paper cast lists available at the Coliseum, they don't seem to be anywhere on the website to download? I suppose there is also a programme on sale. I think I like the sound of the ending, it's more romantic in a way 🙂 -
I'm so pleased The Dante Project will soon be shown on BBC4, was hoping it would be 🙂
