Ongoing UK rail strike action thread
Beryl H replied to Rob S's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I was watching the BBC news just now and the train drivers and their families are getting worried about having enough money for Christmas, I hope this will spur them on to resolving the situation! -

I'm glad that the first cast Cinderella will be shown at the cinema, hopefully a DVD/Blu-Ray will follow 🙂 -

The Journey Planner was actually working a few minutes ago, instead of the "Bad Request" that usually comes up. I should be alright next week now that the strike on 3rd November is cancelled, but have had to cancel SW for the 10th November because of the Tube Strike. -
Ashton's Cinderella - new Royal Ballet production
Beryl H replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I generally find that women playing the Sisters are more nasty to each other, and prefer the humour of men, although it was getting too broad (this is supposed to be a fairy tale) and needs to be gentler and sadder 🙂- 540 replies

Light of Passage - new Crystal Pite ballet

I've just bought one in an old favourite amphi seat that I can no longer afford, £15 instead of £37 not bad, and I would only want to see the second cast anyway. -

Gloves would make handling the cards more difficult, imagine if she dropped them at the critical moment (love the music at this dramatic point BTW).- 810 replies

I was reading about this exhibition, it looks good but I would probably have to combine seeing it in the afternoon with a ballet performance in the evening, especially as it's close to Covent Garden.

I had a frustrating time at 9am, I could access every performance I wanted but after clicking the seat, nothing happened for about 10 minutes, I kept re-clicking but it was completely stuck, then the picture came up out of the blue, once I had the ticket in my basket it was okay until I clicked on the next ticket and the same thing happened, after 4 times I went to the payment part which was normal and straightforward! When I re-started for the 5th ticket the long delay after clicking on the seat happened again. I was happy with the tickets I bought, I did notice that the right side of middle row S in the amphi has been allocated for wheelchair users, which I'm not complaining about, it makes sense as they are near the lifts, that's why I liked them. Bit of an all-round muddle again by the sounds of it, I felt the system was going to pack up but it didn't.

I was checking a cinema booking and saw the film of Carlos Acosta's Don Q is showing on 26 October at 8pm. Sounds good, does anyone know the casting?

Ongoing UK rail strike action thread
Beryl H replied to Rob S's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
One thing I never do now is buy the train ticket in advance, that way if I have to cancel the ballet ticket I can deduct the price of the train, which is often more expensive anyway. My first Mayerling is 21st October, no train strike but casting change announced 🙂 -

That's terrible for the ROH, but I had intended to book for this at the cinema, thanks for advising us. -
Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II

I was spellbound watching the procession from the Palace to Westminster Hall yesterday on TV, it was perfect and did look choreographed, those bells growing louder was so dramatic, I believe Princess Anne was the only lady marching, she kept up with the men, bless her 🙂 -
I didn't really feel like going tonight so have changed the seat for Alina Cojocaru on Friday by telephone, there should be slightly less travel problems in London itself, at least the 11 bus should be running, though not the over crowded trains to and from London. Glad Giselle had a successful first night, it sounds lovely and I want to hear the Ukrainian anthem at the end!

Looks as though the Coliseum should get in touch with Pineapple or reduce prices themselves, ticket sales are very slow, hope it will go ahead.

Funnily enough I've just checked and the Coliseum website shows fuller casting now, I have the same problem as Dawnstar, 14th September is my only chance to see Alina Cojocaru, as it would be presumably worse on the 16th, the day in between strikes!

The Balcony is now open for all performances, prices from £10, think I will go to the Saturday evening, but probably not in the Balcony, not sure if I can put up with the discomfort. Will wait to see if any casting appears.

Yes, "clunky" is a good word to describe the current system, whilst I have been able to book everything I have wanted in the end, it is a slow procedure, easy to click on the wrong view from seat (I'm sure they were trying to get me to buy L71) and fairly difficult using Gift Certificates in particular.

I thought about going on the Saturday night but when I saw the cheapest was the back row of the Upper Circle for £30, I changed my mind.

RB Mayerling 2022 casting discussion
Beryl H replied to LinMM's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I'll go to the cinema to see Ryoichi Hirano, and I've booked for Vadim Muntagirov, Marcelino Sambe and Steven McRae, 3 new Rudolfs for me plus Steven McRae who was sensationally good when dancing at short notice last time round with Akane Takada when Sarah Lamb was injured, so pleased they have 2 more performances!
