  1. Hi there Congrats to your dd on their Elmhurst place! There is an Elmhurst Travel Buddies closed group on Facebook which parents use to arrange lift and taxi shares, train buddies etc mostly for leave out but at other non leave out weekends also. If you know any other Elmhurst parents they can add you to the group via the admin. If not, if you want to message me I can try to do it for you. There is also a very useful buy and sell second hand uniform group too!
  2. Possibly - just waiting to hear back from someone. I'll message you if it is still available and email some photos. thanks x
  3. All still for sale except for the purple one - have photos for anyone interested x
  4. Sky Arts are showing the Mariinsky Ballet's Cinderella on Monday morning at 7am (Monday 14th May)
  5. These are carried out by dance clinic.co.uk, I believe it may be Phil Birch who actually carries out the assessments - he is amazing! There is a thread about him on here somewhere. Two future dates in the near future for Birmingham - I'm guessing to be held at Annette's studio. Details on the website.
  6. Some more pop ups announced today on YBSS's Facebook page and website.

  9. I could only find it on iplayer, right at the end. Only really managed to spot Celine Gittens and Brandon Lawrence when I watched. Thought it was a joyous celebration! (But then I am a biased Brummie!)
  10. I have the following leotards for sale - apologies for not knowing the names of the Leos but if you are interested, PM me for photos! Gaynor Minden black lace leotard size adult small worn just once (!) so would like £20 plus postage (currently retailing around £36) red cotton Lycra capezio leotard size small (J12?), spaghetti straps, plain front (no gathers) and a mid to low back with crossover straps. Again, worn once (what is she like???) would like £10 plus postage raspeberry lycra capezio leotard size small (J12?) very similar in design to the red one above but with adjustable straps and the crossover straps on the back are wider. Would like £10 plus postage purple lycra Bloch leotard size small. Spaghetti straps and lovely neckline detailing to the top. Plain scoop back. Has she ever worn this? Who knows?? Still in as new condition - would like £10 plus postage. Brand new (!!) capezio pull on skirt. Black lace with sequins very sparkly and beautiful (but too short for my dd as she is 5ft 10) Would like £10 plus postage. Will happily combine postage obviously! Perfect for summer school and all in immaculate condition.
  11. RB Giselle is showing on sky arts today (8th April) at 3pm. No mention of cast but dd and I are hoping it is going to be the Nunez/Muntagirov version we saw two years ago (which was being filmed at the time)
  12. Forgot to add, details of the screening service can be found on the Dance Clinic's and Nicholson School of Dance websites.
  13. Coincidentally, my dd has had her first physio session with Phil today at his Birmingham clinic. She has been vocational since year 7 with no injuries but this year (6:1) she had been complaining of a niggly back pain. Following a recommendation from another dance mom, we booked her in to see Phil. Literally, within 5 minutes, he had pinpointed the cause of her current back issue as an ankle injury my dd had sustained when she was 5! Some very intense physio followed and some recommended exercises and we are booked in for a follow up in 2 months time. My dd and I were blown away by his knowledge and expertise and he made several things we had observed about my dd but pretty much dismissed suddenly fall into place and make complete sense. He gained our trust very quickly and we both feel super confident that dd's treatment is in the safest of hands. The cost for the assessment and treatment session (which lasted well over an hour) was £75. Well worth every penny imo. This is different to the ' screening' service he has recently offered at Annette Nicholson's which I believe is possibly to assess suitability/facility for training (but am happy to be corrected on this). So I guess the service you would seek from him would vary if you were vocational/non vocational, injured/not injured.
  14. Apologies if this has already been posted, but the RAD are seeking clarification and have received this response (which while supportive, doesn't really clarify the issue!)
  15. Not sure if you are close to Birmingham, but these are being held at Annette Nicholson's studios in Digbeth. http://danceclinic.co.uk/peak-performance-ballet-dancer-screenings/ I have no personal experience of this, but if Annette is endorsing them, I'd say they would be worth looking into.
  16. There are a list of the available scholarships on the YBSS page and annually a list of scholarship winners are printed in the Dancing Times. Most definitely yes the awards are split between the two audition venues.
  17. ALL institutions dealing with young people should provide access to mental health support IMO. Elmhurst's new healthcare insurance (which is bespoke to the school) has improved mental health support too. An acknowledgement of an issue? Maybe but better than denying issues exist. I am so glad your dd is thriving and happy - it's what we all want for our children regardless of where they study. My non dancing dd had an awful experience of mental health ignorance from the pastoral team and SLT at her local grammar school which caused untold damage from which she is still recovering a number of years later.
  18. With regard to mental health, Elmhurst have recently appointed a mental health nurse to their team at the health and well being centre and have always had student advocates on the staff.
  19. I agree - don't worry! Our dd had an uneven growth spurt in year 7 and it actually caused her to have shoulder pain and gave her a temporary little twist in her spine but she soon levelled out and all of the associated problems it had created cleared up without any medical intervention.
  20. It is inconceivable to me that the fantastic people who give up their time to run this forum are met with anything other than gratitude! As a complete ballet novice mom (something I still consider myself very much to be although I did to my delight score 100% on one of those silly Facebook 'how well do you know ballet?' quizzes so something must be going in! 😉) this forum has seen my through the ups and downs of the life of hapless ballet parent, from dd looking at associates at age 8, through lower school auditions to upper school auditions and everything in between (and almost certainly beyond!) Thank you really most sincerely moderators! You have my endless admiration!
  21. It was yesterday after the final in the break between the finals and the announcements. It isn't on YouTube yet. He was there as part of the choreography project but obviously of interest as a previous winner.
  22. Harrison Lee was interviewed yesterday during the Prix live stream and announced that he will be joining the Royal Ballet company I'm assuming at the end of the season.
  23. The Royal Opera House and ROH shop are currently selling baubles filled with fabric from the costume department - so much prettier than I can make them sound! A little eye-watering at £20 but quite unique! The lady in the shop said that they had just come in this week. DD 'persuaded' me to buy her a Sleeping Beauty one yesterday - not that I needed much persuading!
  24. DaDA do have an element of financial assistance for the maintenance element for those earning under £30,000 on a sliding scale that is means tested annually. (Unlike the tuition element that is only assessed once at the start of the course) x
  25. Any of our fabulous adult dancers interested in this? I have a vested interest as I have an ex-colleague who is going to be a peer motivator and I lost my beautiful mom this summer after complications following a fall. Plus the outreach and participation department at BRB are just amazing and do wonderful work with so many sections of the community. https://www.facebook.com/bhamroyalballet/posts/10155038707483085
