Some bursaries are also available for those unable to pay the course fees. See the following link to the YBSS fees and funding page. I personally think it is amazing that so many funded places, be it scholarships or bursaries, are on offer for this very high calibre summer school! http://www.ybss.co.uk/fees.php

Sophie strikes me as an intelligent and self aware lady who has found comfort in dance. This interview really touched me. https://www.thestage.co.uk/features/interviews/2016/sophie-rebecca-its-unlikely-i-will-be-a-ballerina-but-not-because-im-transgender/

Does anyone have any ladies small leotards for Elmhurst 6:1 for sale?
-
Elmhurst, on the other hand, will take a much wider range of heights, from shorter than CDRs dd to my own at the taller end at nearly 5ft 8"!
-
Thanks to who ever moved this - was sure I had put it in sale and wanted, that will teach me for trying to do it on my phone!
-
I have a ladies medium Elmhurst formal skirt (years 7-10) for sale. £10 to include postage.

Thanks Karen!

Are the candidate/parent interviews happening for upper school auditions too? Just curious as the parent of a current year 11, I was assuming I wouldn't need to be there that day! We haven't had much information from school regarding the day itself.

Have you tried scrubbing with a paste made of baking soda? This helped with a coffee stain on the heel of dd's brand new (eek!) pointe shoes. Didn't quite remove it fully on first go, but reckon a second shot would do the job.

Has anyone had their email from RBS regarding the upper school preliminary audition being held in London?

With regard to authorised absence, attendance at an interview (so for dance read audition) should be authorised with the code J - page 19 of this document might be useful to refer to in any dealings: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518586/Advice_on_school_attendance.pdf Incidentally, codes P and F might help those who struggle to get time off for summe schools - the get out clause is 'someone/an organisation approved by the school' but I think it would be difficult to not approve the Royal Ballet Schhol for example! But to defend schools, attendance is a VERY significant factor in inspection judgements especially in the current policitcal climate, with a focus on safeguarding children and 'children missing education' being something that could send even the very best of schools (however that's is judged) into a requires improvement or special measures category. But to reiterate, yes you are most definitely entitled to an authorised absence to attend interviews/auditions at other educational establishments and I am sure the school would rather give you an authorised absence for those occasions than an unauthorised one! Good luck!

My daughter experienced this too - her only 'pain' symptom was discomfort in her shoulder blade area but when she was looked at by the schools physio, she also had a slight curvature of her spine which thankfully was rectified once her growth levelled out. I would never have expected a shoulder pain to be caused by an asymmetrical growth spurt in the legs!

Hi shygirlsmom You can film the presentation class. Not sure about photos but I'm guessing it would be OK if you didn't use your flash. (or a noisy clicky camera!!). Hope your dd has had a lovely week - we shall be at the presentation class too, looking forward to it very much!

Hi Amum/Cathy the MTS have recently put on a production of into the Woods as well as taking part in the Arts Societies variety show earlier in the term. I'm not sure what the next production is - I don't know how far ahead they plan! I'll ask my daughter more when I see her next weekend and let you know.

My dd is currently in year 10 and the year group has had 7 girls and 3 boys join at various points since the start of year 7. I believe, but am happy to be corrected, that all who are eligible for MDS are offered it. So yes, it is most certainly possible x

A mum/Cathy, actually there appears to be a ballet team and classes at RHUL! They have Facebook page which has a timetable of classes if you are interested. https://www.facebook.com/rhuldance/

My non dancing daughter is in her first term at Royal Holloway. A mum/Cathy there is a very active Musical Theatre Society which she has joined which seems to put on a few productions per year. Dance wise, I don't think there is anything ballet related - a general dance society which, from a little showcase we saw at a recent event, is more modern jazz/street/commercial; a Ballroom and Latin Dancesport society (maybe from the title they compete but I have no idea) and a Bhangra society. If your son is into singing, there is also a Savoy Society that I believe put on productions of Gilbert and Sullivan etc as well as a number of choirs. However, London is very commutable from Egham, with a reasonable priced day return ticket that includes all underground transport too (I think my daughter said it is about £8 with her railcard) which obviously opens up a whole new range of opportunities, although might not be practical if he wants to dance several times throughout the week.
