  1. Nutcracker Live £15 and £17 depending on seat. Others appear to be £10 and £15.
  2. This link might help: http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/cinema-festival-by-various
  3. Well the ones I saw were all tucked into programmes, with none left out for the free cast sheets. Cast change slip apartheid!
  4. Judging by some of the more partisan comments on this site I think it will do the Haywardites good to see Naghdi and the Naghdi-ites good to see O’Sullivan: there’s a suspicion of “I like what I know” sometimes here IMO. Are we principally ballet fans or Naghdi/Hayward/whoever fans? I hope it’s the former! I haven’t booked for the Unknown Soldier, but if Hayward were to be replaced with O’Sullivan for my Two Pigeons I would be delighted.
  5. Just noticed that the ENB Emerging Dancer returns to SW this season on 7th May: https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/2019/english-national-ballet-2019-emerging-dancer/
  6. This is one of my pet hates about ROH! We hear a lot about trying to attract new audiences: well, how about showing some understanding that not everyone lives on the Piccadilly line and they have trains to catch? Or do people outside London not count? Or indeed people who have to get to work by 9 the next morning? (Sorry to bang on again about this again, but I have to get it off my chest every so often!)
  7. ...and I believe the last time such an exception was made it was ahead of a Japanese tour, the "specific reason" being (as no doubt many here already know) that promoters there insist on Principals being cast. So JohnS might be onto something!
  8. ROH Collections is so full of holes! Maybe we should save the lobbying for getting it sorted out?
  9. Just seen this edit: in that case, might some people see it where none exists? I'll shut up on the subject now!
  10. But if that's so and an experienced critic thinks that Muntagirov lacks it, where does that leave us?
  11. And similarly there's more than one reading of whether a dancer has it or not? I haven't yet been and I'm a big admirer of Muntagirov, but charisma is such an intangible quality that I don't think it's always straightforward to judge whether a dancer has it or doesn't, though some like Nureyev make it easier than others. For example, there's one celebrated principal (not Muntagirov) who others rave about on that front but leaves me cold, but I'm not unwise enough to say who here and now! On the balance of probabilities I'll probably end up disagreeing with Lindsay Winship's view, but I utterly defend her right to voice it.
  12. I’m not sure why he’s been mentioned in that case! As others have said, there are many reasons why she would want to take this opportunity, and if money is one of them which of us could blame her, with a dancer’s career being as short as it is? As for fame, I’ve seen little or no evidence that she has actively courted what publicity she has so far received: looking and dancing as she does, it seems to have worked the other way around.
  13. What a fascinating interview! The moment I find myself warming to him he says something both so falsely modest and so preening that I’m back where I started. I particularly enjoyed his suggestion that taking up the NYT dance beat was a great blow to the London theatre scene (no-one remaining was as sensitive to the human voice as he, apparently).
  14. In fairness, I had often wondered this myself: however I think it's sufficiently open to interpretation, or perhaps misconception, that it's worth changing.
  15. I think we'll have to agree to disagree! IMO the validity of this opinion comes from decades of black people telling us that blackface is offensive.
  16. We’ve been round this loop before, but FWIW I don’t think it’s for me or other non-Indian people to judge how offensive or inoffensive La Bayadere is to Indian people. Happily, Shobana Jeyasingh’s view is that it isn’t offensive with the very important proviso that people don’t confuse it for something even approximately authentic. I’d be interested in other Indian people’s views.
  17. I can’t see anything about it in the news section. Do you recall when the substitution was made?
  18. I’d have booked if I’d known she was singing: as it was I don’t think her substitution for Krassimira Stoyanova was ever announced,as far as I’m aware. 🙄
  19. Does anyone know the timings for the acts of Romeo and Juliet please? With the very high prices - the highest I've seen for Amphi sides B-E, aside from the Swan Lake Anomaly - and the embarrassment of casting riches, I'm wondering how viable standing will be.
