  1. Thanks for this Pictures and nice to "see" you again - I've missed your posts! My DD was one of the lucky recipients of an MDS award and after reading this we're feeling even luckier (and more shocked!) now. So sad for all those who haven't had such good news this time, but as Pictures says, all our lovely dancers will indeed find a way.
  2. We're also strongly considering OPES for the first time this year too so looks like there may be lots if us! Also highly recommend the Love Lily ballet wraps - took delivery of three (not quite sure why she needs three, but I'm a soft touch!!) yesterday and everything from the fab customer service to the beautiful skirts was faultless
  3. A junior place for my very excited DD too - a lovely surprise after a busy term of highs and lows!
  4. No experience, but we'll be there too. In fact I think my DD remembers yours from an audition and is looking forward to seeing her again Her Associates teacher advised against phones/iPads etc so we'll be leaving ours at home - hopefully they'll be having far to good a time to miss them! I suspect a stash of snacks might not be a bad idea for my equally ravenous dancer but again hopefully they'll be well catered for. Is she very excited?
  5. My understanding from Hammond is that it's fine to share that you've been awarded an MDS or a scholarship or bursary, but not the actual terms (i.e.; the financial amount involved.)
  6. I got some from Superdrug which look okay (not too flimsy) but DD hasn't actually put them to the test yet. I also bought some online (probably amazon or e-bay, "molly rose" is the brand name on the pack) which are fine. I saw some in Claire's but they were the slightly shorter length which don't work as well for us.
  7. Yes, ours in an Elmhurst one too and she's just outgrown the 8-10. She's about 139cm tall. The next size is age 12 and fits well, relatively unstretched but not baggy. (I agree, the tracksuit is age 7-8 and is very generous apart from leg length!)
  8. My daughter who is exactly the same age and sounds a similar size too, has a Bloch cotton Lycra leotard (basic tank shape) in age 12 which is perfect. It's a slightly different style from the one you need though so not sure if that would make a difference? Good luck - this leotard sizing thing can be a nightmare!
  9. Yes I agree with Jane. RBS may be perceived to be "the best" in term of kudos, but there are many other fantastic associate schemes providing equally good training and nurturing.
  10. The whole show was stunningly good. My DD will be soon embarking on year 7 auditions and I would be honoured and proud if she was lucky enough to be offered a place at Hammond amongst such creativity and talent. A huge well done to all involved!
  11. Thank you! She got a place last year and it's been really lovely - it's a very warm and happy environment. I'm almost relieved (although a rejection is never nice) that it was a no from Royal this year as given her loyalty to Elmhurst (and love for it), it would have been a very difficult choice and I really don't think she would have done both.
  12. During year 5 she would audition for a year 6 place, once she's in year 6 she's too old to audition for JAs. Hope this helps - I know I find it easier to think in term of school year rather than age! Sadly no more JA audition opportunities for us but she's an Elmhurst associate which she loves, so no huge disappointment. I do however feel the pain of all those no's.
  13. With you all the way Balletmumof2, both the bank balance and my stress levels suffer here, but I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end! I suspect we'll see you there unless I dither too long and there are no spaces left ... Eek!
  14. My DD (just turned 10 last month so another young one) would love to attend this. Still thinking about it it as she's doing Hammond Summer School a couple of weeks beforehand and am a bit worried about an overload of dance, especially as this is her first year of doing anything outside her local dance school - not that she's remotely bothered by the prospect!! She was particularly excited at the prospect of anther little attendee having a birthday
  15. My slightly smaller than average DD (just turned 10, but wears 7-8 in normal knickers) has the Katz flesh coloured ones in M/L child size. They're a perfect fit but suspect they'll be too small soon! Hope this helps
  16. Aw, fingers crossed that your sad little one gets a place from the reserve list PV. Hope she's not sad for too long - she did so well to get this far. No post here yet this morning, but probably won't get our result till Monday anyway as DH, being ever economical, used 2nd class stamps!! Does he not realise that my sanity is worth way more than saving a few pennies
  17. Leeds was confirmed on 11/4.

    Hammond final

I haven't posted much but follow all your stories with avid interest. I think you've handled this amazingly Lema. As someone who's possibly teetering on the edge of the big leap into this world, I can only say if I deal with the ups and downs with half as much strength and generosity of spirit as you do I'll be happy! I hope your DD's dreams come true and that she enjoys whatever journey she takes along the way.
  19. I was wondering the same thing! My DD also got a junior recall from first audition.
  20. Colman, think it was probably watching the older professional males perform that grasped his interest, and the performance in general. He recently took part in The Hammond School's Boys Day of Dance which was an amazing experience for him, not just due to the top class workshops and teachers, but also due to how refreshing he found it to be in the company of like minded (and some incredibly talented) boys and young men.
  21. My 12 year old boy paid no attention to his younger sister's passion for ballet until he watched her perform with EYB last summer. He then (somewhat tentatively!) took part in her dance school's summer course and I think from then he was smitten! Since September he's been taking classes in ballet and contemporary and loves every minute. His only regret is not having discovered it a few years earlier.
