Yes Drdance - may be I should of been more specific and said muscles/ligaments/tendons and the bones in the foot! Sorry should of been more specific!! Only I get into such a flap when anyone even mentions foot stretchers!!! Haha
-
Would not recommend a foot stretcher for an 11yr old! You’re better using a theraband and foot exercises which her teacher should give her to do. At that age their bones are still forming and I would be frightened that she would damage delicate bones and then never be able to dance on Pointe! But then thats just my opinion!!

Well done Sarah2203 x

Good luck to everyone for Upper School Finals at Hammond today 🍀🍀🍀

And to your dd Pictures! 🍀🍀 Bless her, hope she’s feeling much better in the morning. I’m sure the adrenalin will kick in! I hope it does for all of them after the late night tonight. Hopefully it will be a very quiet coach trip home as they will be asleep! Haha!!!!!

Yes a very busy week for Hammond this week - lower school auditions today, the whole school are in Manchester this evening watching Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella, Upper School Funding Auditions tomorrow (good luck to all our gorgeous yr11’s and anyone else attending! 🍀) Graduate Showcase Thursday and yr10 Dancing at the Storeyhouse too!! What a week!!! Fabulous!

Good luck to all the children auditioning at Hammond today. Sarah2003 I’m not surprised about your visit to the boarding house! All the boarding staff are amazing with the children, which in turn helps make the children happy and feeling safe where they are! The boarding houses really are home from home! For me it’s not all the mod cons and newer buildings that make a School but the people and children in them that make it!! Happy and healthy children make for a happy atmosphere and happy parents! Knowing that your children are being well looked after is of paramount importance!!!

What warm-ups / extras do the cool tweens wear?
Dancing unicorn replied to Confuddled's topic in Doing Dance
Hi all I think the fleece all-in-one you’re referring to is the Sansha Gaby fleece! Dancique in Birmingham do sell them (bought one for dd at Christmas). They (Sansha not Dancique!) had a problem with manufacture of them a while ago (top seam had no give in it - this seems now to have been rectified!) -
Would definitely recommend Opes, far more friendly and the teachers are amazing xx

Questions about Lower School auditions
Dancing unicorn replied to outofmydepth's topic in Doing Dance
Please don’t worry about the singing bit! They all do a warm up together (which is great fun!) then they sing individually. I’ve heard that some people just sing happy birthday!!🎂 it’s really just to see if they can hold a tune I think. Good luck 🍀- 1,226 replies

Can someone tell me the best way to sew on ribbons?
Dancing unicorn replied to Confuddled's topic in Doing Dance
You don’t normally need both ribbon and elastic at the same time on flat Ballet shoes! I personally hate ribbons on ballet shoes! But some teachers like ribbons for shows exams etc. I tell my girls it’s elastic for flat shoes and then when they get their demi-Pointe or Pointe shoes they then feel more special because they are then allowed ribbons on them! But then that’s just me! -
Can someone tell me the best way to sew on ribbons?
Dancing unicorn replied to Confuddled's topic in Doing Dance
Hiya it depends on whether it’s Ballet shoe ribbons or pointe shoe ribbons!!! I’m assuming you mean Ballet shoe otherwise you would of said Pointe! If Ballet - I cut the ribbon into 4 equal lengths and then sew on. Put on shoe, tie it correctly, trim ribbon to length and then use a lighter to burn ends to stop fraying. Ive just googled ‘how to see on ribbons on ballet shoes’ and a thread came up! Have a look. If pointe shoes there’s different ways of doing it so maybe ask her teacher for which way she prefers (plus you should check with the teacher first on fit of shoe before sewing anything on the shoe incase the teacher isn’t happy with the shoes!) Hope that helps. Happy seeing xx -
My dd favours Wear Moi toe pads! Been using them since the start! Nearly 6 years! Finally one wore out after about 3 yrs! Only on 2nd pair now and that’s with use (definitely in last 2 years at Hammond) of Pointe most days! As dd prefers to work in pointe shoes! So yeh definitely recommend. Hope that helps x

Get your daughters regular dance teacher to email Mark Annear (think he’s head of all auditions!) and then hopefully you will get a Phone call. They were very quick at replying when we did it!- 1,226 replies

Just got back after an amazing performance by all of the Hammond students yet again! I was in tears half way thru the first song! It was truly amazing. For a school to put on a performance like that at such short notice, perfectly sung, perfectly danced, perfectly staged is unbelievable and the final performance of O Fortuna from Carmina Burana (dh’s all time favourite song!) was simply stunning. Thank you Hammond for yet another fantastic evening!

What a shame you can’t go. Getting excited here! Can’t wait x

So I’m assuming you have put in application form, got audition date and now sorting solo! How long have you got til audition? As I think you might be better just doing a dance that he already knows, ie an exam dance, a show dance he’s already done. Rather than choreographing a brand new dance that would stress him even more!!
-
What year is he now then 5 or 6? Sorry I always get mixed up with years!
-
Can his teacher help him? Or is there a dance that he does at his dance school that he really knows that he could use. It might be better to do a modern, contemporary or tap solo which ever he is best at rather than doing a ballet solo. Unless it’s only Ballet he really knows. You’d be surprised how much you can get in a 1 minute dance! Good luck 🍀

RAD Grade 4 Exam - etiquette advice please
Dancing unicorn replied to TwoLeftFeet's topic in Doing Dance
When is the exam? How old is your dd, could she and the other girls ask the teacher what happens on exam day! I know my girls ask me what happens if they haven’t done one before and we go thru the process. We even get a parent to sit behind the desk to pretend to be the examiner, go outside the door and get in line and do the whole process. This then puts the girls at ease, especially my younger ones. -
RAD Grade 4 Exam - etiquette advice please
Dancing unicorn replied to TwoLeftFeet's topic in Doing Dance
Hiya her teacher should really rehearse this with her but just in case! She’ll have 3 things to carry in, her skirt which is folded and draped over her arm, her character shoes in same hand/arm as skirt and her report slip that the teacher will mark (unless that is already with the examiner!). She walks over to the examiners desk, bows and says either good morning or good afternoon. Waits for the examiner to acknowledge her and then the examiner will ask her to put her skirt and shoes to one side and take her place at the barre. Hope that helps xx Good luck to your dd 🍀
