  1. To all those going to Induction Day at The Hammond tomorrow have a fabulous day. It's truly an amazing school. All the staff, academic, admin and dance are fabulous dedicated people. The Boarding houses are fab friendly places and more like a home than a boarding house and the children are well looked after. Our dd is so happy here. Enjoy and Good luck for September.
  2. Haha would have loved to have gone today but had a prior meeting to attend! Hopefully hear all about it from dd later.
  3. Just wanted to say Happy 100th Birthday today to all at The Hammond School Chester. They've celebrated today with a beautiful Birthday Cake. Hope they've all had a brilliant day. A fantastic achievment. Can't wait now for the Summer Production. Here's to the next 100 yrs ???
  4. How lovely Ballet4Boyz I'm reading your post with tears in my eyesI couldn't have said it better myself! We can't believe 2 schools could be so different! Our dd's confidence is growing week by week, we're not there yet, but the Hammond with all its staff, admin, academic, dance and especially the house parents are building that confidence back. Its going to take time but we know we're going to get there. This thread is an absolute godsend - its so open for anyone to see which I think says alot about the school - its an open friendly and nurturing school with helful and friendly parents and pupils. To any new pupils joining this amazing school in September good luck you are going to be well looked after ??
  5. Thank you pas de quatre. Did think that, just wasnt sure you 'could' iron it!! Will give it a go. Thanks again x
  6. Sadly there are hundreds of children out there who train from a very young age, do JA's, go off to top vocational schools at 11. Go on to top vocational schools at 16 for 3 years and still don't get into The Royal Ballet! Enough said!!
  7. Hi all you knowledgeable tutu ladies hope you can help. I've bought a Capezio pink tutu skirt on knickers for my dd on line. Received it yesterday and on removing it from box and bag, the top layer stiff netting is quite creased! Firstly DH said send it back!! But then he suggested hanging it in a steamy bathroom, but I still don't think creases will come out. Any suggestions please. That sorted, I then plan to tack net layers together, hoop it and put top layer decoration on. Is this possible with a pre made tutu skirt base please? Will then be using it with a decorated leotard! Suggestions much appreciated please. And thanks in advance.
  8. Hiya Will they not take them back at the box office? There must be people not on the forum that still want tickets?
  9. Hi Happymum Dd did this last year and also does the Malvern workshops. No not everyone takes tutu's (mostly the black tutu on pants type) to either of these courses. Dd took hers the other year but it wasnt used! Practically everyone wears pretty skirts tho and there is someone there that sells them. So take plenty of pocket money for that! (£18/20 each).
  10. Hi Balletdream Well done on getting a place at the Hammond. It is an absolutely fabulous school. Have you asked about a bursery - there is up to 50% Good luck
  11. Pass rate is as follows 40-54 Pass 55-74 Merit 75-100 Distinction Just checked on website!
  12. Hi DanceTaxi Have you not asked for a bursary from Hammond? There is a chance of up to 50%!!
  13. Hi Peanut68 totally agree with everything you have said above. I have started numerous times to reply on our experience on this thread but have deleted!! Our dd now at different voc school, only started in September and still has wobbles with confidence. But she is so much happier now, and we are too. A child's mental health is far more important, but if this is what a child wants to do then unfortunately they will put up with anything to pursue it!!
  14. Watched Giselle yesterday. Wow wow wow what a fabulous production. It was amazing! We watched yesterday afternoon and cos helping in the evening got to see it again. All the students danced beautifully. Having professionals dance with the students, and a visit from Sir Peter Write in the week, certainly brought a buzz to the school. The costumes and set from ROH were stunning. Congratulations everyone at Hammond. This school continues to amaze us. Roll on Summer Production - can't wait.
  15. I tottally agree with Karen, see how it goes til October when all applications come out. Change of year, new teachers etc might make all the difference.
  16. Just been to Open Evening tonight and watched dress rehearsals of Giselle. Fabulous! Can't wait to watch on Saturday!! There was great excitement yesterday also. Dd phoned last night to say at lunch yesterday Sir Peter Wright was sitting right behind her at lunch time!! Fabulous!
  17. Hi Ballet4Boyz Re uniform - generally the children wear non uniform leotards and tights but those at vocational school usually take their school uniform to wear one day also!

  20. Ahh fabulous. Your post made me smile. I remember sitting downstairs listening to all the jumping upstairs! And the doorbell - wherever we go and we hear that sound dd and I look at each other and smile cos it always reminds us of Centre Pointe! Ahhh happy happy times. Good luck all those auditioning ??
