  1. Sorry pups mum but I have to slightly disagree on the 'lay more store on the narrative of the inspection report rather than the figures etc'. These 'reports' still don't give you an actual insight into a school. Speaking to parents who are at/have been at a school give you a 'slightly' better insight! All I can say is that where our dd is at now, she is far happier dance wise, academically and pastorally!! And is thriving because of it!!
  2. Fantastic news shygirlsmum. Our dd is very very happy at Hammond. Its a fantastic school.
  3. Still after Advanced 2 DVD & CD please if anyone selling - thanks.
  4. Its solo and song for both Tring and Hammond Lower school. What year are you applying for I can't remember?
  5. My dd didn't wear skirt for her intermediate either. Don't think it matters.
  6. Hi Does anyone have the syllabus books for RAD Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 for sale please. Plus if anyone has Advanced 2 DVD and CD for sale that would be great. Thanks
  7. Ahhh thats fabulous news Littleone! Thanks for the info! Dd currently at Hammond and this will be us this time next year! Dd does both singing/music and drama so she should be ok. It just came as a shock to me that there was so much to the audition. Whereas other upper schools it will be just a ballet class and possibly a solo!!!
  8. Ahhh ok thank you. We are/will be only considering Dance courses so having read Karen's full detail of Hammond's audition yesterday, it gave me a bit of a fright!
  9. Thank you Theother51. What would the Dance audition entail then please? Surely they don't do monologues, 2 songs and a shakespearean piece for the dance audition?!!
  10. Hi Karen really silly question but what course was the Hammond audition for please? Thanks
  11. Totally agree with you on that one cdr!! Xx
  12. Haha! Yes - the floor of the openair studio was very rough and therefore wore out a pair of canvas ballet shoes in 3 days!! So if going don't take brand new shoes, especially satin! The place is in the middle of nowhere, so you have to expect lack of wifi, the occasional lack of power, the creepy crawlies. It was more like staying in someones private home with its own outside studio and pool, oh and not forgetting the onsite camel rides! And yes the journey there was interesting, but it all adds to the charm of the place.
  13. Just supporting cdr on this. Our dd also on a scholarship and was just 13 at end of yr8 when she did it (2015 but week before cdr). We went with dd and made it our family holiday as felt dd too young to go that far on her own. Best 'holiday' we've had in a long time, watching dd dance all day and then dips in the pool, fabulous! Amazing teachers, fabulous classes - ballet, rep and contemporary. No pointe tho as would have wrecked their shoes - infact kept her wrecked ballet shoes as a souvenier!. We all enjoyed it so much and would love to do it again.
  14. I personally don't think that they should put the boarding on site at the school. The children need a sence of going home at night, away from the school. Just like 'normal' children do if at an ordinary school. It gives a sence of normality of getting the bus home after a day at school.
  15. We have experience of 2 lots of boarding and Hammond is by far the best! The happy relaxed nature of the matrons rubs off on the children and it makes for happy, relaxed and cared for children which in turn makes for happy, relaxed and content parents at home! Believe me there is nothing worse than a worried parent miles away from their child! We have none of this now. We are more than happy with the boarding and with the school.
  16. Congrats from me too! Wish we'd have come to Hammond first! It's an amazing school. EVERYONE is so friendly, it's such a loving caring school and our dd loves it.
  17. Narrow proper ballet shoe ribbon for ballet shoes - proper ribbon as unfortunately if you try ordinary ribbon (as some mums did years ago!) The ribbon curls and knots too tight, you will therefore end up having to cut the ribbon off. Proper ballet shoe ribbon can be removed, washed, ironed and reused again. Wider ribbon for pointe shoes and older children as feet and ankles bigger!
  18. Hi Arrival day is Sunday, classes are Monday to Friday with performance on the Friday afternoon. There is a daily ballet class first thing for each of the groups, then there is either jazz for the younger group or contemporary for older 2 groups. There is also pointe, rep and pdd for the 2 older groups. Tap is not the norm but just an add on last year at the last minute! Fab classes with fab teachers!
  19. I have to say that it's not the quantity/ length of the classes that matters but the content and quality of the teaching of the classes that matters! And actually, we are getting no less ballet hours than where we were! Plus, we've been told that classes increase for exam and performance times. Academically - teaching staff are very approachable and helpful. Our dd is enjoying her academics more now also. On the vocal and drama side of things, the children have already been involved in Oliver as their drama production and the Christmas Carol Concert at Chester Cathedral was outstanding! And yes absolutely, the happiness of the child in both it's school and boarding environment is of paramount importance.
  20. All I will say is, wish we had come to Hammond in yr7! Academic, dance and house staff are all amazing. Our dd is far happier now than where she was. Ballet staff are fabulous as too are the jazz and tap teachers. Don't know who the yr7's have as their ballet teacher - but maybe someone from current yr7 can let you know. We have found it to be a very happy school and would definately recommend auditioning.
  21. Hi Does anybody have a copy of the ISTD Intermediate Modern and Tap music I could buy please for dd to practice over the Christmas holidays. Thanks
  22. Apparently dd said it was filmed twice yesterday, so hopefully it will be for sale! Presumably for each casting! Then you can buy it Karen and see your dd in it!!
  23. Thanks PITFL for the information, fab to know. This is what voc school is all about! Enjoy the performance, its trully amazing and worthy of any West End Stage.
