  1. Reading some of these posts, I consider myself lucky that I just go to the ROH now and again, and just enjoy whatever and whoever is in front of me. I was there on Saturday evening, and thoroughly enjoyed the night, I see where some people are coming from suggesting Osipova dances her style no matter what, but I couldn't care less, I just enjoy watching a fantastic dancer. Oh and I did have my pic taken on the stairs with two of my grandchildren, whilst on our way to The DGGT. I remember when I was a massive Bob Dylan freik, I used to critisise other fans for asking for songs such as Blowing in the Wind, Mr Tambouring Man, etc etc. I then realised I'd become something of an elitist, and they had every right to do or enjoy what they wanted to.
  2. Since you posted SBF, I have asked six people, and none of them could name one.
  3. It could be pressure differential Lisa, if you shut the door and need to open it almost straight away, the warm air that has been drawn in causes the problem. It's quite a while since I was at school, but the psi x the area of the door creates quite a differential in pressure. It should cool down after no time at all and the door should open normally.
  4. It would also have been nice, if all the local dance schools had a chance to nominate some of their dancers to take part.
  5. It used to be a large envelope for the yeahs, and a small one for the no's, although it's maybe changed.
  6. Some good news for ballet lovers in Hull, in that Kevin O'Hare is bringing some Royal Ballet Company dancers for the official re opening of Hull New Theatre after a £16 million face lift. The dancers include well known dancers such as Marianela Nunez, Xander Parish etc, and some talented dancers from some of the local dance schools.
  7. I booked a night in Travelodge Kings X, on a saver at £120 instead of £199. I then wanted to alter my plans and stay over in Paris, but they wouldn't budge when I asked to cancel. To be fair it's in the terms and conditions and is as plain as the day, to make matters worse the price has gone down to around £95. They were very sympathetic of course, and think they would have let me switch the day, so you might be ok if you ask your particular hotel nicely.
  8. Don't worry Cablegirl, there's always someone who knows all the info, usually they come up short though.
  9. I reckon the selective waiting list for WL must be as long as The Great Wall of China, as there seems to be that many on it every year.
  10. It can be frustrating at times, as my GDD was born on the last day of August, although there's no point in worrying about something you just can't alter. In the early days up to a years difference in age can be massive when it comes to audition finals such as WL with all the talent on show. Now she's a 14 the age gap doesn't matter so much, as the strength is there.
  11. Do SA's get a place automatically, I don't think they do but thought I'd ask?
  12. This could be relevant in this "debate". I have a son who works for the BBC as an expert summariser in a particular sport. In a City with two teams, both sets of fans accuse him of being biased towards their neighbours. To cut it short, he tells it how it happens, not what they'd like to hear. Me, I'll just sit on the fence on this one, as I don't know enough.
  13. I suppose what happened last year has no relevance to this or any future year.
  14. I'm sure there are many pro's out there with less than 180 Harwell, not all of them have perfect feet, flexibility, etc etc.
  15. I would have been surprised if they hadn't offered you tickets Amos, their customer care is second to none. Hope DD's migraine is a one off.
  16. Of course they will, that's why the Government will have to always keep changing our currency, at least making it harder for the criminals.
  17. Hope she doesn't cop out in a couple of weeks at the ROH.
  18. I couldn't agree more Frank.
  19. Very interesting FrankH, the great dancer might have made a good stand off the balance he had, and the way he danced. After being at a pro club for around fifteen years, I wouldn't agree that a good game of rugby is a rarity though.
  20. Yes she was Flowerpot, but not too sure whether that would make any difference at all, like I said it seems to be pot luck if they meet all that's required of them of course.
  21. Yes Flowerpot, our DD went to RB SS two years on the trot, and wasn't at a vocational school, just a JA. There are some really talented dancers, not neccessarily at a vocational school getting very good training. I don't think anyone really knows the criteria for being selected, it might be just pot luck as there must be so many boys and girls with the same looks, body shape and ability.
  22. I would jut go for it Flowerpot, what have you got to lose apart from the deposit maybe? If it suits and you get a place then fine, if you don't so be it, but you'll never know unless you try.
  23. I went back again tonight DB, to video the light show at The Deep and The City Hall, for some family in Australia, the atmosphere was electric as the crowds were massive. Everyone appeared to be loving it.
  24. Well I've just been to have a look at whats going on in Hull this week, at the beginning of their City of Culture year. All I can say is, if you get chance to visit the light and sound show, then go as it's absolutely brilliant. My friends son sorted the sound out on the show on the side of The Deep, and he recommended it to me, and the one in Queen Victoria Square was a bit special too. I think this particular event finishes on Saturday, but I was told this is only the beginning, as there's something going on right through the year.
