  1. Find a teacher and tell them you want to prepare for your intermediate exam then theyā€™ll hopefully put you in an exam class at that level - most likely with other teens preparing for that exam. Yes I feel your pain re adult classes, however, Iā€™d reccomended Hannah Frost at Central School of Ballet and Pineapple she is very eagle eyed and really focuses on technique and gives lots of useful corrections. I donā€™t know any London ballet schools, but if youā€™re anywhere near Essex Iā€™d definitely say have a chat with Mrs Patching at Adagio School of Dance - she taught my 2 kids and was excellent, according to my son she worked them hard and god knows how but she managed to get my feral boy a distinction in his primary exam and his sister a merit - so as far as Iā€™m concerned sheā€™s a total miracle worker if she can get my feral kids such results šŸ˜‚ The studios at Adagio are beautiful too.
  2. I thought the girl doing the Indian dancing that got through into the next round was amazing - she said she also did ballet and modern. Iā€™m looking forward to watching her, but Iā€™m disappointed that the 2 classical ballet dancers (who were both beautiful dancers imo) didnā€™t get through. The male ballet dancer was so good as was Ai the other classical ballet dancer and I canā€™t believe they didnā€™t get through. The whole thing seemed focused on more contemporary styles which seemed unfair on those 2 ballet dancers as they were head and shoulders above the other candidates imo.
  3. The barre is there for decoration itā€™s not a lifeline šŸ˜‚ If youā€™re going to do your exam youā€™re going to have to know what yourā€™e doing (after I fluffed the tendu exercise after weeks of learning it šŸ¤Æ)
  4. Second this. Leanne is fantastic. My feet are broad across metatarsals and have high arches and Leanne found a lovely pair of shoes for me. She is very thorough and my shoes are comfortable.
  5. Thank you šŸ™ I told my teacher about it today and we didnā€™t use the pointe shoes. A local dance physio attends one of her classes so sheā€™s going to put me in touch with her. Fingers crossed itā€™ll get sorted soon. Yes ballet can be quite addictive so it can be hard to back off, but Iā€™m leaving the pointe shoes alone until Iā€™ve seen a physio now.
  6. Hello, Iā€™m 46 and I started ballet a year ago so when I bought my first couple of Leoā€™s quite recently I was looking to minimise the pear shaped look of my lower body. I found capezio and bloch to have a quite modestly cut leg line.
  7. Iā€™m so glad your ankle has settled and youā€™re able to carry on with preparing for your exam Viv šŸ™ŒšŸ’—šŸ©°
  8. Hello Lin, Yes my teacher told me to get some. Yes I have done a year of ballet so I was quite surprised. Iā€™ve just been doing a few releves and roll throughs at the barre and the left ankle is still sore when I go up onto pointe and when I point my toes so I think Iā€™m going to see a dance physio. If anyone knows a good one local to Essex Iā€™d be grateful for a reccomendation.
  9. Yes I saw him in R&J or Nutcracker too, canā€™t remember which now and he was amazing then too. Heā€™s fabulous.
  10. Just here to say I was there to see Nela/Vadim on Thursday 10th and it was a night Iā€™ll never forget. Pure magic. Nela and Vadim are gifts from god. Also Joonhyuk Jun as Benno šŸ˜®šŸ˜®šŸ˜® amazing.
  11. Aww thank you Fiz. Iā€™d done yoga and weights for several years before starting ballet which I think has helped.
  12. Hello! I hope your back settles down soon that must be very frustrating for you. Iā€™m a long way off being ready for the exam Iā€™m thinking next year. Iā€™ve only had one pointe class so far so Iā€™ve not started doing the pointe part of the exam, but yes it does scare me a tiny bit letting go of the barre in pointe shoes. Iā€™m currently trying to get all the barre work slick, work on my pirouettes and on variation 1. Itā€™s a work in progress. Good to meet another person doing the same exam x
  13. Thank you šŸ˜Š Iā€™m quite a long way off doing the exam - probably next year but Iā€™m enjoying the preparation process x
  14. Yes thank you my teacher had mentioned that so I know itā€™s on her radar to prepare me for that xx
  15. Hello! Iā€™m in the process of preparing for my RAD intermediate foundation exam and Iā€™m hoping to sit it at the end of this year or next year. Iā€™m doing 2 classes a week, a one hour private lesson, 2 hours of weights and tracking my calorie and protein intake on my fitness pal with my online personal trainer. I started ballet a year ago now having never danced before and was wondering if thereā€™s anyone on here preparing for the same exam so we could share experiences and tips. Or any teachers that can share wisdom about how best to prepare, how much to practice, how many classes to take, cross training etc. Looking for some RAD intermediate foundation buddies - Iā€™m nosy about how other people prepare for RAD exams šŸ˜‚šŸ©°
  16. Yes that is so kind of you to reply thank you. I got my first pointe shoes a couple of weeks ago and the back of my ankle was sore after the fitting having tried on lots of shoes. The fitter (Leanne of straight to the pointe) was extremely knowledgeable and spotted my left ankle was turning in and weaker than the right and this is the one that is the most sore. She reccomended a video on her you tube channel for ankle strengthening exercises which includes the same exercises you kindly detailed above. Iā€™ve been doing 16-25 single leg and double leg raises in parallel and then another 25 double leg raises in first twice a day while I brush my teeth which has helped. The pain isnā€™t really very bad itā€™s between 0 and 1/10 (I have a high pain threshold and when I ruptured my appendix I said to doctors my pain was 3-4/10 so itā€™s hard to know how bad it is really). Anyway the exercises have helped heaps thank you šŸ™
  17. Iā€™ve heard that Mr Grishko is Ukrainian and his workers are from all over the world. Leanne of straight to the pointe has fantastic stock of Grishko and sheā€™s an amazing fitter. Sheā€™s in Essex but does mobile fittings too. Iā€™d highly recommend her.
  18. Iā€™ve just booked to see this cast too - canā€™t wait šŸ’—šŸ©°
  19. Gosh that mustā€™ve been frustrating šŸ˜Thank you Iā€™ll hope Iā€™m lucky in Friday rush or manage to snag some returns x
  20. Thanks for the tips Bridiem - Iā€™ve never seen it before so fingers crossed. Thatā€™s the only day I can easily do too, so Iā€™m hoping Iā€™ll be lucky. Iā€™m supposing all the cheap balcony seats, SCS and reasonably priced front-ish of amphi get snapped up during the friends booking phase hence why thereā€™s not much left in my price range now.
  21. @Bluebird thank you ā˜ŗļø I think Iā€™ll leave it. Wanted to see the scenes de ballet triple bill matinee on 23rd April but all decent cheap seats are gone šŸ˜ and itā€™s only the first day of public booking. Thought Iā€™d got in early too šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
